Bio
Naj Murph is a New York bred hip-hop artist who made a home in Atlanta after graduating high school. This was before Atlanta emerged as the leader of the culture, Murph simply arrived to put a degree with his name and complete a mission no one in his immediate family had. He made a name for himself on campus at Morehouse College as an emcee and began to grow a fan base that would stick around throughout the journey. Before his campus departure, Murph formed the lifestyle brand/label "Student Union", increasing visibility and overall presence. It wasn't until Mark Anthony Green placed his single "J-Walking" from the album Heir Murph (2011)in a GQ interview with Tyler the Creator and Glen O'Brien that some validity was added to his name. Opening for the likes of Ab Soul, Curren$y, Dom Kennedy, French Montana, and more; things were beginning to take off for Murph and his clout in Atlanta had grown significantly.
In 2013 Murph was sentenced to home confinement for 8 months and all the momentum came to halt. Using his adversity for inspiration Murph released the mixtape House-A-Rest upon his release and has been consistent ever since. He and Student Union have continuously kept their name amid the clutter of artists in Atlanta with dope freestyles, catering events and key releases. The most recent album Mainstream Murph was a break from the norm musically where he and L.A. producer Beat Boy aimed to break the ceiling on the traditional hip-hop sound the fans were accustomed to. Recently he stumbled upon a TeamBackpack feature alongside Cyhi the prynce and some other great Atlanta artists. In the meantime, Murph is getting his hands dirty producing on Ableton and knocking out features as he preps for his next big release. Stay tuned
