Bio

Mr. VSax was born in Houston to Nigerian parents who named him Victor Oyedeji. Raised as a 1st-generation Nigerian-American, he grew up listening to American and Native Nigerian music. Mr. V-Sax is a saxophonist and an avid pioneer in bringing a new style of music to the industry. Paving the way for Urban Saxophonists, he was one of the first sax players to play Hip-Hop covers on YouTube. Playing #1 hits like Chris Brown’s “Kiss, Kiss”, opened a new avenue for sax players and inspired them to do similar covers seen all over YouTube today. As a New-Age Saxophonist he is storming South West Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Maryland and L.A with Hip-Hop, R&B and Afro-Beat genres at the same time creating a new generation of music.

His musical career began in church at the age of 15. He then continued on as a lead Jazz Sax player in Oral Roberts University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. He relocated back to Houston in 2010 with his newly found love for playing Hip-Hop, R&B and Afro-Beats popularly known as Naija-Jams. Mr. VSax derived his musical style from music he heard as a child which mostly consisted of New Jack Swing, Hip-Hop, 80s & 90s R&B, Gospel, Nigerian, Soul & Jazz genres.

His main influences include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Pharrell, Teddy Riley, Quincy Jones, Fred Hammond, Najee, Ebenezer Obey, Brandy, Darkchild and Dwele & Mike Phillips. He has since diversified his range of musical taste with music like “Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd, “Never mind” from Nirvana, and “Enter Sandman” from the legendary riff on Metallica. 280,000 YouTube views and 2000 YouTube subscribers later, his diversified music catalog has allowed him to perform at various venues using his unique sax skills to play today’s Urban Radio styles in his music.

Mr. VSax has been nominated for many local awards and won 1ST place at the 2011 Lakewood’s Got Talent competition. As a musical director he led his former band VSax & The Crew to play for major Nigerian superstar Tuface, J Martins and played as the backup band for Flavour Nabania on his American tour. They bridged the gap between American and African music and played for V.I.C., Mr. Casper a.k.a Cha-Cha Slide, Houston’s Majic 102 and United Airlines’ private parties. Mr. VSax is also known for providing sheet music for most of the Billboard music covers played on his VSax Sheets site at http://vsaxsheets.com.
