Bio
Music has been Pamela Mortensen's playground since she was six first taking up the organ and later the piano, digital synthesis and singing. But it wasn't until 2005 that the sound of a simple hollow stick, the didgeridoo, captured her imagination by way of hearing an album of didgeridoo music by Aboriginal artist David Hudson. This new found experiment quickly turned into a passion taking Mortensen on a journey like no other.
Inspired by Turkish rhythms, urban beats and the cosmic, she practices day and night, finding a combination of voice, rhythm, diaphragm and ambiance that at once brings out and dives into the worlds of imagination. She weaves a combination of light and dark, complexity and simplicity, color and contrast and touches it at times with a sense of humor transporting listeners to a realm of inner and outer spaces.
This work so far has seen the culmination of live performances and workshops around the Western US and the production of three albums including the current release of "Dogum", a collection of magical solo and duet works for didgeridoo.
Her history with music includes four years spent at Cornish College of the Arts culminating in a degree in music composition, performing in many parts of the world including Eastern Europe, and being honored with several awards for composition.
