Mike James Jr

Mike James Jr. is the oldest of
5, born and raised in a strict Pentecostal family in the rough inner city of
Kansas City, Kansas.  Surrounded by drugs
and crime all the same as his peers, Mike was yet submerged with religion. His
father being a fire breathing preacher coupled with the strength of his
mother’s voice in the choir, Mike’s roots run deep within the church and in
gospel music.  Here is where he would
find his voice singing in the church choir and being influenced by the likes of
James Moore, Commissioned, and John P. Kee. 
Then there was the rebellious side that was heavily intrigued by the
sounds of Jodeci, Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo.

After graduating from college,
having concluded a modestly successful football career, Mike finally took
singing seriously.  Purchasing his own
studio equipment, Mike began writing, recording, and engineering his own music.
In 2013, Mike released his debut album “SoWeDream” which was an ode to
traditional smooth 90's r&b with rich harmonies and meaningful content,
delivered with precision.

A once quiet teenager started to
form his own style, independent of others perceptions and judgments. Years
removed from a stereotypical young black man, Michael James carries on the
bravado and pride that comes with not only coming from the ghetto but making it
out. It is with this mindset that he sings emotional ballads of love; depicts
life in the hood with raw humanness and also lightens the mood with seductive
R&B gems; making sure you not only never forget where he’s from but also
reminding you perhaps of where you come from as well.
