We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Midnight Snackers’ new LP Transfer (listen below), which has been officially released today, December 16th.
The band comment on the album:
“For this record, we wanted to create something that captured our live sound, similar to our effort on our 2nd album, Sudden Death. On our third release, Foul Weather Friends, – as Beck might say – we got a little crazy with the cheese-whiz, and by that we mean overdubs. Listen, sometimes the opportunities for technical wizardry results in preposterously layered vocal harmonies and multiple flute solos slathered on top of one another. What can we say–the results were deliciously cheezy. On our newest record, Transfer, the entire band recorded simultaneously in the same room, with very little overdubs, outside of vocals. We stripped it down as much as possible–to get to the point. The band always views recording as a potential experiment, and for this album, the experiment was – ‘Can we finally sound like Midnight Snackers?'” - New Noise Magazine
Today, Punknews is pleased to debut the new single by Midnight Snackers.
"Steve McQueen" is a frikkin' schizophrenic song. It opens with a corroded, Flipper style stomp before giving away to ghostly, Cramps style rockabilly. The song gets about halfway through and the band just decides to tear the whole thing apart. This is song is whacked out.

Bay Area-based rockers the Midnight Snackers have a pulsating sound that manages to combine both power and fury. This is evident on "I Need an Adult," the latest song from their upcoming Transfer album. If this is what's to come on the album, then there's no doubt that this quintet will continue in the tradition of bringing the San Francisco garage sound to the masses.
"I need an adult was a riff we bought at a Parisian riff store," singer Dylan Haas says. "France may not have the best riffs, but they certainly have the more high end, boutique riffs. So you pay top dollar, but you get top quality. The lyrics are about trying to get drugs and laid in Paris. Which we’ve all, unsuccessfully, tried to do.”

What started as a Casio keyboard experiment in a garage turned into Midnight Snackers. Today, we have a premiere from the rock act in the form of their new single, “Magnet Mind”.
“The main two riffs of ‘Magnet Mind’ were written by one of our drummers, Brendan. He wanted to write something that would help people push each other around in the audience during our shows, so there’s some of that in there.”
From the same band that set out to record five songs in seventy-two hours or less for their second release, “Magnet Mind” has all the creativity and energy you’ve come to know from Midnight Snackers. Check it out below!
“Also, because I’m a sorcerer, all the songs I write manifest as reality shortly after I write them and I wanted to use my powers to quit drinking and quit ruining weddings. So there’s that. Also this song is about time travel during sex.” - idobi
Following up two previous EPs, garage rock band The Midnight Snackers have come out with their first full-length release, Foul Weather Friends. The album is fun, melodic, and a nice break-away from the traditionally niche garage/psych rock. While the band uses elements from those genres, they take the product into several absolutely different territories. There are psychedelic-sounding synths, ska-sounding horn sections, all capped with a rock n' roll sound.
"Communication," the first track off of the record, starts off with a distorted, choppy bass riff, containing an Iggy Pop reminiscent sound, while "GFGF" delivers hard party that's fun and worthy of singing along. However, then songs like "Help Me, Bloodhound" come on, and a two-minute intro throws you off on what to expect from the band. It eventually becomes more familiar, and it's apparent that this band has found haven within not being defined, or more direct. Genres that don't usually fit are made to blend into one another, and somehow The Midnight Snackers make it work. - SF Bay Bridged
Over one weekend this past summer San Francisco garage group Midnight Snackers locked themselves into the studio, and just 72 hours or so later, came out with their second EP Sudden Death.
The paradoxical concept of wanting to spark total creative freedom through implementing strict constraints lead the band to create the album in a short span of time. Their mission was to avoid the post-editing process and come out with something organic and unadulterated.
In a press release for the new record, the band's singer Dylan Haas describes what his thoughts were going into recording:
Really, I just wanted to see what kind of music we would make if we were completely strung out on sleeplessness and pharmaceuticals, like the way people lose their shit when they're stuck in a car together for 12 hours.
Sudden Death is a solid release showing the diversity the Midnight Snackers brings to a saturated Bay Area garage market. The album is available for download on the group's Bandcamp. - SF Bay Bridged
Introducing themselves to the experimental lo-fi Bay Area scene (sharing space with the likes of Thee Oh Sees), the Midnight Snackers have emerged with their debut self-titled EP. "Now I am Become Party" is the EP's single - a sprawling, energetic affair with plenty of bluesy hooks and psychedelic nostalgia. - SF Bay Bridged

Bio
Midnight Snackers started as an experiment in an East Bay garage, with a couple of dusty Casio keyboards. Far from garage rock purists, they sought to just make whatever weird, gnarled beats and guitar tones they liked, breaking out of the formal, hampering constraints of previous projects. They dreamed of creating a frenetic and fun live show that you could push, shove--or shake your ass to.
Recording started as a set of experiments: the 2010 EP Midnight Snackers was a foray into lofi electronics and tiny, terrible amplifiers. Next, an attempt at writing and recording 5 songs in 72 hours or less on 2011's Sudden Death. Then Foul Weather Friends, in 2013-- a labor of love studying the craft of pop hooks and goofiness.
In 2016, Midnight Snackers have focused their energy on making their most high quality effort yet--recording with engineer Terry Yerves at San Francisco's Decibelle studios. Their album, Transfer was delivered on December 16th, 2016.
