New York native, singer Melody Rose, was first to the stage. Having had the chance to tour Europe, Rose is an artist with a bright future as she works on her debut album with producer Ryan Lerman. The singer-songwriter’s thirty minute set was dominated by piano driven numbers showcasing her extraordinary voice as she played tracks such as her single “Dressed to Kill” and “I Only Have Love For You.” Rose harkened back to the best female acts of the ’60s and ’70s as she gave off the vibe of an edgy Carole King, the sharp wit of Rickie Lee Jones, and the power and confidence of a seasoned Diana Ross. No easy task, Rose was able, as an opener, to provide a delightful set for the crowd. Her debut EP is available through her website melodyrose.net. - Cryptic Rock

So here is the deal...
I receive what I call partial if not incredibly incomplete work from artists in the form of singles. I don't review singles. Until now...
Word of mouth has made and broken many a business not to mention recording artists before their career really even gets off the ground. I noticed a drummer friend of mine by the name of Jordan Young had "liked" Melody Rose on face book. Young is a gifted musician and one of the hot tickets in straight ahead drumming and I value his opinion so I was intrigued. Who is Melody Rose and why should I care?
Rose is from Long Island, New York. A gifted vocalist having studied with the New York Voices and having toured Europe while performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival on two occasions so the whole, "Who is she and why should I care" can be easily put to bed. Rose is blessed with a warm unique tone, impeccable phrasing and serious cross over potential. Artist comparisons have been tossed out but the only one working for me at the moment would be a more talented version of Melody Gardot. Sound a bit harsh? The single "Dressed To Kill" shows off a strong lyrical presence with sophisticated jazz harmonies and colorful changes. There are artists twenty years her senior that still can't pull that off.
A rising star...
The right producer could have Melody Rose a major star inside a year. The wrong producer could have her selling cosmetics at the local mall in six months. A mediocre producer could have her spending thirty years working the club circuit wondering where it all went wrong. I have and probably still will rant about social media and it's misuse by artists. Melody Rose seems to be taking things one tune and one video at a time. Baby steps. Less is more and quality not quantity seems to be her wheelhouse. While I still skip over singles as a rule, thanks to social media I have been turned on to a vocal artist with mad skills and unlimited potential.

Such a well written, catchy pop tune with an alternative edge to it, Her voice is amazing as is the songwriting, the lyrics are good. The piano playing on the song, is excellent. This is such a good tune, the musicianship on this song is amazing. - Parx-E Web Zine
"In a couple of months, we'll be thinking of the best locally released songs and albums of 2014- and that list will no doubt be topped by this potential hit single by Long Island's Melody Rose. Released in February, the song scored airplay all over the globe and made the Top 20 at Lluvia FM radio in Spain...This song is going a long way in adding to her list of accomplishments; it's a light, airy, and sexy love song; it moves along with a pleasing, lightly rocking pace. Rose's understated vocal is perfect for the song, which sounds exactly like the moment that you realize that you're infatuated with the person you've been seeing." - Good Times Magazine

NYC vocalist, Melody Rose is preparing to release her self-titled debut EP at the beginning of 2015. The EP’s lead single is “I Only Have Love for You” and Surviving the Golden Age is pleased to premiere the track’s official music video. Sounding somewhere between Sara Bareilles and Norah Jones, the piano ballad gets an equally emotive video. Director Gonzalo Romero mixes close-ups of the singer with images of the ocean, the beach, and stone structures while a recurring theme of Rose writing in a journal are explored. They seem like fitting visuals for the beautiful track. - Surviving the Golden Age
Melody Rose certainly has a soulful sound, but there’s also a quirky quality to her singing that makes her brand of pop so appealing. “Last Call” could easily be one of those pub sing-alongs — well, if you are in the UK. And to put a fine point on what this song is about, Rose does bring in a chorus of drunken revelers in the ride out. I’ve been spinning this one quite a bit since the link was sent to me, and I kept wondering why the song was so damn appealing. But it doesn’t take too much thought to understand why: a song about drunken good times with friends is always appealing. Have a listen and you’ll hear what I mean with “Last Call.” - Pop Dose

New York native Melody Rose attributes her unique vocal and songwriting style to her various musical upbringings. The daughter of a singer and a music industry executive, she spent her childhood in the studio, or backstage at Madison Square Garden, observing the inner workings of the world of Rock & Roll.
Her operatic training and vocal jazz training surpass a decade. Upon receiving her M.A. in music composition, Melody continued to work on her craft as a singer-songwriter, and subsequently released her debut, self-titled album in 2015. Her single, “Lightning Strikes,” received rave reviews, peaking at position 5 in the Hot 100 Charts on LLUVIA FM Radio in Spain, leading Good Times Magazine to say:
- “It’s a light, airy, and sexy love song; it moves along with a pleasing, lightly rocking pace...All in all, given the solid groove and the great instrumental performances as well, this single is a tasteful triumph.”
Melody’s live performances have taken her to Europe and to various music conferences and festivals along the east coast. Rose recently opened for Howard Jones at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY.
