"Former American Idol Singer, Melissa Mcghee, At St. Petersburg’s Sunshine City Fest"

Q105's own Scott Walker and a former American Idol contestant were breathing fire and beans at Saint Petersburg’s Grand Central District’s annual Sunshine City Festival & Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Feb 23.

The festival celebrating the unique characteristics of the District and it’s “Old Florida” flavor also included a knock-your-socks-off chili cook off with over 22 different chili’s all homemade by most of the businesses and bars in the district. Former American Idol constant Melissa Mcghee, from the 5 season of American Idol, thrilled the crowd with songs from her stint on American Idol. - Q105

Bio

Melissa McGhee was a top 12 finalist on season 5 of Americas #1 TV show American Idol. Known for her sexy, sultry vocals, Melissa sailed her way through the semi-finals, singing covers of When The Lights Go Down, Why Havent I Heard From You, and What About Love. Surpassing six other females, Melissa found herself in the final selected group of twelve where she placed 12th of thousands who aspired to be the next American Idol. Her last song performed was the Stevie Wonder classic Lately.

Since Idol, Melissa has went on tour with many other American Idols and stars including Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Ruben Studdard, Justin Guarini, Elliot Yamin, Gina Glocksen, Bucky Covington, and many more. She has performed in various shows throughout the country. Just to name a few of her favorite shows that have been in our area: 4th of July Bash with Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean, the Hillsborough County Teachers Convention in front of 20,000 teachers, the National Anthem for the Devil Rays, Hurricane Awareness at Weeki Wachee where she swam as a mermaid, and the Worldsailfish Tournament in Key West.

It has also given her the opportunity to open her heart and work with many charities. Her love for helping people and animals has spread through these charities. Some of the causes she has been helping raise money for are; The Spring, Suncoast Animal League, Pit Positive, The All Childrens Hospital, Litte Pet Project, Fighting for Breast Cancer, Bucs player Michael Clayton Foundation, Hurricane Awareness, Lukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Heartbeat International.

She now currently is working on new music and is excited about her future in the music business.
