Megan Redmond – Dreamland — a tasty bit of crossover pop country/americana from this young lady who is playing damn near every festival event of the summer from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins in 2012. Not since Katie Moffatt in the early 70s has there been, to the best of my knowledge, a top female pop country artist break out of Colorado. Her 6 song debut ep is full of songs she wrote or co-wrote, and was produced in Nashville with some top session players. The first single, “Falling,” was placed on industry news leader ALLACCESS.COM’s “Cool New Country” highlight list… then landed on Clear Channel Media’s show on hot new country propelling “Falling” onto the Top 100 Country charts on both Mediabase and Nielsen BDS. - The Colorado Sound

On June 2 and 3, 2012 the 41st Chun Capitol Hill People’s Fair will take place at Denver’s CivicCenterPark. The fair is the longest continuously running and largest event of its type in the country. On Saturday March 23rd and Sunday March 24th the official auditions were held at Benders Tavern with eighty plus bands battling for the right to fill thirty to forty open spots on the fairs music schedule, a schedule that will feature up to 130 bands on six stages.
Several CMB staff members were on hand both days assisting with the selection process, helping out as VIP judges. What a daunting process, band after band taking the stage, moving from stage to stage in two rooms, some of the music starting to sound the same, how is a judge to choose, it can get soooo confusing.
All this writer can say is “WOW!!” what an event. The talent level in this year’s pool was phenomenal. We can’t list every band that performed, but, some of the acts that jumped out at us were country artists Megan Redmond (what a natural talent this lady is) and Fort Collins’ The Holler, Indie rockers Foxfield 4 and Instant Empire, Hard Rockers Odin’s Other Eye and Take To The Oars (who stood out amongst the louder bands), Jazz artists The Orchid Room (a talented group of youths playing some very heavy original jazz), The Nacho Men (a straight up R&B/Motown cover band complete with shark skin suits), Rap/R&B artist Rebel Tongue, the Gypsy Grass talents of The Gristle Gals, and Alt Folk artists Fiction Is Fun.
Quoting the Swami: ”A great day of talent … highlights for me included Megan Redmond (don’t do the American Idol thing!), Gang Forward (reminded me of locals SOFO) and Take To the Oars who basically did a concert with just two songs…”
