Mayathewriter is an Atlanta-based artist (rapper/writer/producer) from Southwest Georgia. The majority of her life was spent in rural towns up until her departure for Georgia State. Hailing from a musically inclined family, she started playing her first instrument at age 11 and has since then learned other instruments, including trumpet, and piano. Her name is homage to her favorite poet of all time, Maya Angelou. Maya seeks to excite and challenge listeners with a musical ear and affinity for intricate, and often introspective lyrics.
