""No Place Left to Hide" CD Review"

Matt Moore is a very talented singer songwriter and No Place Left to Hide is his debut release. The CD features 7 tracks of well done music that falls into a pop, modern rock style of music.

Moore’s songs deal with subject matters that center around life issues like, love, relationships, personal struggles, and faith.

“Chang in Me,” gets the music started with its up-tempo modern rock sound. The next two tracks, “Tear Me Down,” and “Letting Go,” follow in the same style.

Track-4, “Again,” offers up a mixture of both up tempo and more melodic beats that are guitar driven.

Track-5, “The Lost & the Found,” Starts and ends with acoustic guitar parts, but in between you’ll find rocking music complete with an electric guitar solo.

Track-6,”Standing in the Flames,” was the highlight track for me. This song has an almost hard rock style that’s found on it complete with a big electric guitar and thick driving drum beats.

Track-7, “A Thousand Prayers,” finishes things off nicely with its rhythmic beats and passionate vocals. On this track Moore’s vocals are joined by female vocalist Helena Moore. Her softer vocals played very well when set against Matt’s, adding a new dimension to the song.

With No Place Left to Hide Matt Moore has put out a solid debut.

His music is recommended for fans of musical acts like, Chris Daughry, David Cook, Jeremy Camp, and Fuel.

Also Moore has decided to make this a pay what you want type of release. Here’s part of the posting that can be found on his MySpace page:

"2008 Fuse FM Interview"

How are you doing today?

I'm doing really well, how about you?

Tell me a bit about the man behind the music: (I know that's not a question...)

Well, I'm 28 years old, married with two amazing kids. I live in the small little town of Clare, MI, where I was born and raised. I've been playing guitar for about 11 years now, mostly in various hard rock bands. I've been performing as a solo acoustic artist for about a year now and it's been a total trip.

How did you start out playing music?

As a kid growing up there was always some kind of music in our house. When my sister and I were just little kids we would sit around with our dad and make up goofy songs while he played the guitar. That was probably the start of it all. When I was in grade school my buddies and I would put on little concerts for our friends on the playground. We would sing songs by the Beatles, Michael Jackson, the California Raisins, it was pretty funny. I seem to remember working on some choreography for those gigs too, yikes!

A few years later I got into hip-hop music and started rapping DC Talk songs at church. DC Talk was huge for me as a kid, I knew every word to every song. It was actually when they released their "Jesus Freak" album that I decided I wanted to start my own rock band. I really had no intention of playing an instrument at that time, but I didn't know anyone my age that played guitar so I sort of picked it up just out of necessity. And since my dad has always been an amazing guitar player it was kind of a natural choice. After that I started getting into heavier and heavier rock bands and I was totally sold on becoming a guitar hero.

How do you go about writing a song?

I don't really have a set system that I use when I write songs. Sometimes it starts with a melody, or a cool lyric line. Other times I just walk around strumming the guitar and trying to come up with interesting chord progressions. I have notepads full of unfinished lyric ideas and tapes full of old guitar riffs. Sometimes one of those old ideas will pop back up in a different context and it just works. I've found that those bits and pieces seem to come pretty easy, but actually sitting down and working out a complete song is really tough.

Why do you play music?

That's a pretty big question. I guess I play music because I love it! Music is a really powerful thing that kind of draws you in. I also feel that God has called me to play music. I want to use the talents and the opportunities that He has given me to share my life with others. Hopefully I can use music to connect with people and really show them God's love.

I love the song "Tear Me Down" what is the story behind it?

Hey thanks! I actually wrote "Tear Me Down" during a rough period in my life. I had one of those moments where I realized that my relationship with God wasn't anywhere near where I wanted it to be. I was really struggling to understand what kept getting in the way of me having a closer walk with Him when all of the sudden it hit me. It was me! I kept getting in the way. It's my habits, my pride, my lack of faith, all kinds of things that have kept me from experiencing God more fully. So "Tear Me Down" was really written as a prayer from me to God asking Him to change me, help me get rid of the junk in my life, and make me the man that He wants me to be. If He needs to completely burn the whole thing down and start over fresh then I'm ready for it.

What about "The Lost & The Found"?

I wrote "The Lost & The Found" as sort of a critical song about how we choose to live our lives sometimes. I tried to make it something that could apply to both Christians and non Christians alike. It seems like we are always chasing after something that we think will make us feel complete. As Christians we always tell people that Jesus is that thing that will fill the emptiness we have inside, yet sometimes even after we have Jesus in our hearts we live as though we need something else. Stuff like; if we just had more money life would be complete. A successful career would really give our life true meaning. I think a lot of us struggle with this kind of thinking, and I was really being critical of myself when I wrote it. It was sort of my way of asking "if God is more than enough to supply all our needs and desires, why do we sometimes choose to live like He's not?"

Where is the most interesting place you've performed at?

Hmmm, that all depends on what you mean by "interesting." I have had the opportunity to play a number of different venues, and each has its charm. I think the barn right outside of 101.7 The Fuse was one of the more "interesting" places I've played. I don't get to play many barns.

What was your favorite performance?

I really don't have one. I have played a lot of really cool gigs and had some very memorable experiences. Playing at the Ward Theater in Mt. Pleasant with a full band was a rea - FUSE FM 101.7 - WPRJ
