Bio
Matt Monroe is a singer-songwriter with a message – bringing music heavily filled with lessons, insights, and observations about life, love, and the human condition.
"My music comes from my life stories names have been changed to protect the innocent. Much of it is painful, from the death of my mother to the loss of love.
Some of it comes from peace and thankfulness where my wife and I have built a great home and family and where God has always been with us even when I didn't deserve to have Him."
Drawing on his experiences (both good and bad), Matt takes his listeners on a journey that sometimes educates, sometimes entertains, and always resonates.
A gifted vocalist and songwriter, Matt has had an interesting journey to becoming one of the world's most respected independent artists.
From there, he began to build a following by playing live shows and sharing his music online. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, he began his music career as he played clubs and venues across the southeast while attending Troy University, where he earned a degree in Computer Science.
But more than an average singer, he is a tech-savvy independent music artist with extraordinary music symphonies. He enjoys using his skills to create new and innovative things and to diversify from his computer skills to music. With a drive as a true creative force, he is always looking for new and interesting ways to express himself and unleash his talents.
While on his way to becoming a professional musician, author, and teacher, he also desires to share his music with the world and help others achieve their musical dreams. From a very early age, he taught himself how to play guitar and started performing at jazz and blues clubs as a teenager.
Yet, after a friend's tragic accident, he left the music scene. In all uncertainty, he pursued a college degree. He has since taught computer classes for the blind, sailed the coast of Florida, and written over 150 songs. His music reflects his journey through life and is designed to inspire and uplift listeners.
In 2007, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and started a family. He continued to write and record music and is on his expedition to drop his first-ever Indie Folk album, "Transistor Radio," as a legacy for his musical career. He currently works as a cybersecurity analyst.
His new upcoming album is filled with lyrics that are both poetic and filled with lessons that tell stories of hope and perseverance. He aims not only to entertain but also to engrave hope and motivate those who listen. He believes that we are capable of great things and strives to inspire others to find their unique voice.
"I used to sit and listen to my dad play his guitar for hours, going through Beatles and Eagles songbooks. He used to play records from James Taylor to the Beatles, to Van Halen, the Cars, Yes, and the Moody Blues. I was baptized in rock and roll."
The music he creates is a unique blend of simplicity and complexity, influenced by his southern roots, his training in jazz, and his love for classical music.
His album speaks a lot about the indie and folk genres and how those styles can be blended to create something new and unique. He draws on influences from both genres to create a sound that is all his own, and it is this sound that will make him earn a place among the best new singer-songwriters in the music industry.
