"MUSIC VIDEO: MADlines "I Need A Moment""

The vintage jazz incantations of “I Need A Moment” had us nodding as soon as the beat dropped. Then MADlines‘s grown ass woman voice graced our ears and it fleshed out quite a cosmopolitan Oakland scene before us. In the vein of Do DAT’s Oakland In Blue project, “I Need A Moment” blends hip-hop and jazz with integrity and flavor.

MADlines is a Seattle native who’s called East Oakland home since coming out here in 2010 to earn her Master’s of Fine Arts and Literature at Sem City’s own Mills College. As a decorated spoken word artist and one half of the Sea-Town hip-hop duo Canary Sing, MADlines is no newbie to the scene or stage. And as a community artist, you’ve no doubt spotted her around town lending her support and presence at myriad Bay Area events. But we also understand that this may be your first introduction to her music. We think you’ll like what you hear.

“I Need A Moment” is MADlines’s feel-good ode to taking a second, collecting your nerves, quieting the butterflies, and making that overture to the object of your desire. There’s a nervous yearning in her voice, but also a sultry confidence that plays perfect over jazzy horns and falling flower petals. We look forward to hearing more from MADlines and working up the confidence to say hello next time we see her in traffic. - 38th Notes

"MADlines, of Seattle Based Canary Sing, drops a Gem of a Song"

It wasn’t to long after the Beautiful Baby dropped that Madeleines came down to the Bay Area and blessed us with her talent as she pursued her Masters degree at Oakland’s Mills College. She’s been rocking the mic as well as the books and recently dropped a gem of a song and fun video called ‘I Need a Moment’. Look out for this sister to keep making noise. The best has yet to come... - Davey D

"MADlines’ New Project ‘MAD Habits’ – Interview"

"A couple weeks ago, MADlines released her latest project MAD Habits – a Mixtape inspired by the late Nina Simone. I first saw MADlines perform as part of her duo Canary Sing. I was beyond impressed, and that feeling continues with this solo project of hers."

Bio

MADlines is an MC based in the Bay Area. She was born and raised in Seattle--a city so diverse in style that it doesnt adhere to a distinct Hip Hop sound. For MADlines, growing up immersed in the Seattle scene meant embracing multiple genres and styles. Also, her travels to Jamaica as a child inspired her love for music that uplifts and enlivens the masses.

MADlines began her writing career in high school, first as a Youth Speaks Seattle Slam Champion and, later, as one half of the dynamic Rap duo, Canary Sing. Canary Sing went on to open for such artists as Talib Kweli, Blue Scholars, Sol, Binary Star, Macklemore and Saul Williams. Canary Sing also toured nationally and released two musical projects together!

In 2010, MADlines relocated to Oakland, California to challenge herself to a new environment. Shes since fallen in love with Oakland and in 2012, she released a solo Mixtape MAD Habits as well as a single "I Need A Moment."

Most recently, the vibrant Bay Area scene has helped MADlines nurture a style all her own, and shes teamed up with Seattle Hip Hop pioneer and producer, Bean One, to release an EP called Love Child.

The EP is a return to the Reggae-infused noises in her blood AND an example of the raw, original styles in store!
