The Candy Apples were selected as the Best Debut Artist of 2009 by Rich Kaminsky of Off-Beat. Their song "Autumn Bound" off their debut full-length album "Into the Fifth Season" received a notable mention. - Off-Beat
The Candy Apples are an immensely talented band with each member playing several instruments and a duo of singers to create a dynamic sound. To keep the album lively The Candy Apples diversified even further bringing in some brass players to record on the album. Even our Studio Manager Rob Kissner got involved laying down some accordion."

"Wonderful trio of guys that have been together for 10 years… Beautiful harmonies, I really love that, it's a real throwback, kind of retro."
"Up and coming and new in the music world. Hopefully we'll hear a lot from them… Great music there, it's just wonderful stuff." - WFAS-FM
The Candy Apples are an NYC-based quartet who knock out 10 slabs of indie rock glory on their debut disk, Into the Fifth Season. This is an album that is destined to captivate fans of harmony-rich, melody-drenched pop-rock which harkens back to a better era. Through it all, these Apples wear their hearts on their collective sleeves, but don’t let a little vulnerability get in the way of a rocking good time. Kicking things off with What You Want to Find, a dream track of close harmonies, infectious hooks and pounding energy that grabs you by the throat with a catchy melody and implied threat of impending doom – Into the Fifth Season doesn’t let go until the final track, Somebody, brings this sparkling debut to an end that arrives much too soon. In between, other stand out tracks include Drip Drain (a tale of hopeless desire), Thesis (a concise chunk of insanely beguiling pop rock greatness), In a Hole (a harmonically complex slice of near-Beach Boys infused effervescent pop joy driven by a manic and irresistible bass line), and Lemons (a two-part affair featuring a happily raucous uptempo soul stirring classic that converts that hoary old axiom about the main component of lemonade into a glorious evocation of Beatlesque sunshine, fronting an over-the-top orchestral arrangement that dominates the second movement of this unique track). Perhaps the standout offering on Into the Fifth Season is Autumn Bound, a cut with a somewhat unusual song structure (in that there really isn’t a chorus) – instead, massive bracing guitar runs suck you in with a dreamy wall of shimmery axe work combining perfectly with a understated synth accompaniment, underscored with brilliant signature drumfills. (Check out the swirling, dizzying video – shot in the NYC environs). Andy, Grant, Ben and Steve combine seamlessly to play with verve and joy, and string together crisply arranged and performed tracks with a maturity that belies their studio experience. The Candy Apples make undeniably satisfying ear candy all the way.

Andy & Grant maintain an uncanny knack for writing hypnotic music, marrying the stringent beauty of a Neil Young composition with the levitational pop structures of Stevie Wonder. They list early 1970’s era Beach Boys, Fiona Apple, Grizzly Bear and The Milk Carton Kids among their stronger influences. Having played as a wedding band (to keep their artistic endeavors afloat) the duo pride themselves on knowing how to put on a show as much as they do on writing music as catchy as it is original.
“Mac/Glidden are keepers of the classic music flame. It was a pleasure to work with them.”
- Katreese Barnes (Two-time Emmy Winning Music Director for Saturday Night Live)
