Bio
Writing is many things to me--my passion, my enjoyment, my escape, my healing, my spiritual and/or reflective time. I am a Christian songwriter/singer wanting to spread God's love and grace through music, but I also enjoy penning a country song from time to time.
One of my country songs, "Dear Abby", won 2nd Place in the January/February 2008 lyric contest by American Songwriter Magazine. Another song, "The Little Snowman", received the Director's Award in a Christmas competition.
My music collection contains a variety of styles including contemporary Christian, progressive and southern gospel, country gospel, choral and some children's. Although I do write secular country music. my heart and love for Jesus continuously pull me to gospel/Christian music.
A mathematics teacher by profession, I am currently employed by Kilgore Jr. College as a Math Lab instructor. I also spent many years in the public school system working with 6th through 9th grade students who continuously opened my eyes and taught me many things about life.
God has been great to me. I am currently a cancer survivor (it will be two years in December, 2013). He also spared me through a very devastating illness which required brain surgery in my late twenties, restoring my body to an overall healthy state and allowing me to raise my son. Before my illness, I wrote songs (very sparsely) but afterward, the songs just seemed to overflow. It was then that I knew I had a special purpose, as we all do, and I thank God for each and every day and the doors he continues to open.
I am a BMI-registered songwriter and a member of the SGMA of Texas (Southern Gospel Music Association of Texas). Past performances include many churches in the Longview (East Texas) area, Dallas, and Austin. My sister trio, Three As One, also performed at several local country/gospel shows, colleges, business meetings, and also recorded some radio jingles for a local Christian station. In the early 90's, we released a single from our self-titled album that received airplay on Christian radio stations from coast to coast in the United States including Alaska.
Please check out my demos under audio and I pray that you will be blessed. I have many vocally talented friends who have helped in the making of these demos including: Three As One members Laura Cox, Cindy Hoefer, and myself; Friends--Jeanie Thompson, Cyndy Talley, Cindy Hoefer, and me; and other special friends--Ajay Torres (One Man, One Way), Vicki Miller (no kin and lead singer for the fabulous Christian group SpokenFor out of Dallas--Would You Dry Just One More Tear), and Glenn Summers--More Sunsets Are Behind Us*.
*More Sunsets was written about my precious father and World War II Navy veteran, John Grimes, and his shipmate, Paul Mahan. The narration at the beginning is actually taken from an audio tape Paul made for my dad after he suffered a debilitating stroke and was unable to converse on the phone any more. Paul would make tapes and mail them to my dad from time to time and the song was born from one of those awesome and very touching audio tapes. It is also dedicated to the soldiers who served on the destroyer, USS Jenkins #447, as well as all of our veterans past and present. We love you, appreciate you, and THANK YOU!
