"Limitless Magazine Interview"

Mike. How long has music been a part of your life?

Shroom. I always vibed with music but when I was 11 I got Ludacris's chicken and beer album and that's when I fell in love with hip-hop.

Mike. If it wasn’t for music, where would you be now?

Shroom. Honestly probably dead. Music is medicine to me and when I started writing it let me cope with a lot of the trauma I received as a kid.

Mike. If you had to sacrifice one skill, which would you least like to let go, and why?

Shroom. I would never want to lose my dedication. I learned a quote when I was young and in wrestling and that quote was "obsessive is the word the lazy use to describe the dedicated." Ever since I heard that I tried to apply it to every aspect of my life especially music.

Mike. In what way do you aim to make a difference?

Shroom. Have you ever listen to a song when you were in a really bad place and it stopped you from doing somethin stupid or kept you movin? That's what I want to be for anybody that needs it. If you go to my Facebook page or any of my social medias I have tons of contact information. If you hit my line I will have the time. No matter how big or small I end up bein in the game I will always have time for my fans.

Mike. Where is your career heading? What’s the vision?

Shroom. The vision I'm shootin for right now is the step out on that stage and see that sea of cell phone lights recording me. I just recently started doing my own production and I practice every night after work cuz the way I see it anybody can hop on a beat and say some catchy clever shit but only the greats do it all. I even make all my cover art so from this point on if you listen to a song for me it's all me. Start to finish top to bottom.

Mike. When it comes to performing, what’s your style?

Shroom. I'm definitely a hoodie on, in the zone, focused type. I have a message with each song and I'm gonna deliver it.
I take my live performances very serious. I start rehearsing a couple of days before a gig all the way up to the last 20 minutes in the car before I get on stage.

Mike. How do you see your sound evolving in the next couple of years?

Shroom. Since I started making my own beats I'm not just writing words to fit someone else's vibe now I'm making the vibe. It's a completely different ballgame picking the tempo selecting the instruments and blending it all together. Eventually my music's going to be like taking a hallucinogen. LiL Shroom. Big Trip.

Mike. What makes you different from other rappers in the industry?

Shroom. Honestly I believe I care about my fan base way more than most artist do Im just not successful enough to give back to them as much as I want to. One day tho...

Mike. Who are your biggest musical influences? Would you say you’re at all like them?

Shroom. Ludacris, Wu Tang, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Hopsin,
Jarron Benton, Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, J Cole. Thats just some of my favorites man. The list goes on and on. I believe I have combined a little bit of them all into my style. I like to think of myself as a Midwest Chooper with Southern Sauce.

Mike. When driving, is there a specific track that has you blasting the stereo with the windows down?

Shroom. I do that with all of my music. Thats actually the first reason I wanted to start making music. I wanted to bumb my own tunes and cruise. Not counting my music It would be Kendrick's song DNA Tay-K's song Megga Man Joey Badass's Christ Conscious 50 Cent's Many Men or anything by Mac Miller .

Mike. Who would it be and why if you could collaborate with any artist?

Shroom. Man probably Em bro. Everything with his name attached goes platinum damn near instantly. Also because I believe he paved the way for me to even be taken seriously by the culture of hip hop. I appreciate hip hop and its people because it came from great people going through ridiculously tuff times making something out of nothing and I see myself as a person that has done somethin similar. Everything I have I got it by myself. I believe that in life you are the only person that will have your back - Limitless Magazine
