Lightfall

Lightfall is a Toronto-based worship band who began their journey in late 2012. As individuals with varied life experiences, each member brings something unique to the group, with a unified goal to share their story, hear yours, and share God’s message.

Earlier in 2012, Ryan Hammond (Lead Guitar) was frustrated with a musical project he was working on. It seemed to be going nowhere, but he knew in his heart there was something more to be done, and began reaching out. What we now know as Lightfall began as a feeling; a feeling that God had a bigger plan.

Nathan Hamilton (Rhythm Guitar) was in a similar situation. After a few emails and an eventual meeting over coffee, the two got together with front man Renz Laserna, drummer Mark Chown, and bass player Marquis Murray at a quaint little spot in Oshawa, Ontario known as The Rehearsal Factory. After just one jam session, the group seemed to really click. It was obvious that this was a God thing.

The group began writing and planning right away. Their sound can be described as worship with an alternative rock and electronic backbone. Loaded with synths, pads, and driving guitars, their music is catchy while at the same time rich with deep roots taken straight from the bible.

The band released their self-titled EP in June of 2014, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Inspiration Charts, and #36 on the Canadian Top Albums. Lightfall wants the world to hear their music so others can know and experience God through their inspirational lyrics and open hearts of the band’s five members.

When it comes to our new single “Your love is an Ocean”, off of our upcoming album we really wanted this song to feel different; and special, at that! We hold this song close to our hearts because it was the first song that we wrote and performed as a group back in 2012. It has gone through many changes and was placed on the shelf for a long time, and we almost left it there. Our Producer and Engineer, Derek Hoffman took the raw ideas of the song and brought them to life. We really feel that he took this John 3:16 inspired tune and gave it a raw, edgy sound that people from all walks of life with different musical tastes can really identify with.

As Christians we believe that we are placed on this Earth to love the Lord our God with everything that is in us and to love those around us just as much. When this happens, then and only then, will God be known. This is our music. This is our story. We are Lightfall.
