Hermosa Beach singer/songwriter Lesley Wright received some help from local student filmmakers in filming her new video, “No Superhero,” which makes its debut at the Sunscreen Film Festival West this weekend.

SSFF produced the video, which features the first single from her new five song EP, also called “No Superhero,” produced by Danny Wilde of The Rembrandts.

Wright said the video is about “empowering women.”

“She wakes up in the morning and realizes that, you know what, she's better off without him (boyfriend),” said Wright about the lead character in the video. “She gets all the stuff together she's collected over the period of their relationship and she gets on a bike and goes over to his house and gives it back to him. Basically it's symbolism, where she's taking back her power from him from something that was in the box.”

Wright said Robert Enriquez, SSFF west coast director, and the students handled almost everything with the video, but they did collaborate on the video's script idea.

“They picked the students they wanted to work with and they picked the talent that was featured in the video,” Wright said.

The “No Superhero” EP can be heard on college radio stations around the country and can be found on iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby.
