Lauren Oglesby

New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Lauren Oglesby draws upon years of classical vocal and piano training and a strong literary sensibility to craft her tightly-spun lyrics and haunting melodies. Each song she creates is a dense tapestry that invites listeners to lose themselves in an intricate world woven with all the complexities of love, loss, regret and hope.  

A Seattle native, Lauren spent her formative years studying classical voice, piano and composition. At the same time, she was exploring Seattle's underground venues and playing every open mic she could. After transplanting herself to New Orleans, Lauren dove headfirst into  a home-recording project that resulted in her newest album, "Demonstrations." 

"Demonstrations" is a collection of narratives that range in emotion from the hopefully predictive ("California") to the wryly self-aware ("A Love Song"), to the darkly cautionary ("Bluebeard"). Aided by a few beloved friends, this latest project combines folk and jazz elements to create a fresh, compelling sound. Whether she is spinning the tale of an unplanned pregnancy ("Beholden") or commenting regretfully on a stumble into unrequited love ("Fremont"), Lauren Oglesby inhabits each character she sings with sympathy, inimitable style, and with nary a misstep.
