Williams hits The Voice stage with a staggering performance of “Fingers Crossed,” by Lauren Spencer Smith. From the opening notes, Williams’ rich, deep voice captures the attention of Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani. Once again, the pair race to be the first to hit the buzzer, earning Williams a 2-Chair Turn before anyone has a chance to catch their breath.

While Horan and Stefani were the first to turn, they weren’t the last. Williams even won over John Legend and Reba McEntire, both of whom have been a little more discerning so far this season, earning herself a coveted 4-Chair Turn.

“You were one of the best I’ve heard, honestly. The control you have, the character in your voice, I would have even thought maybe you wrote that song. That’s how connected you were,” Stefani says of the performance. “And for a 20-year-old to be on this big TV stage in front of us, you were so composed and in control of your performance. It was really, like, major.”

Not missing even a moment, Horan jumps in with his own assessment. “Laura, that was so good. I love your whole vibe; I love your outfit. This is a very, very, very hard song to sing because it’s so snappy. You need quick breaths. Most people would get halfway through that chorus and pass out,” Horan says.

McEntire, perhaps seeing the writing on the wall, keeps her comments brief but calls Williams’ voice a God-given gift. Legend, likewise, takes a more passive approach saying, “I think part of the task of a good coach for you is to not overcoach you and mess that up. Then Legend asks what sort of artists Williams likes and who inspires her. She lists several artists including Horan’s own group One Direction.

Still, everyone broke out their customized team sweaters in an attempt to win Williams over. In the end, she made perhaps the only decision she could have, and joined team Niall.

“Sky is the limit for Laura,” Horan says. “Her voice has got so much character in it. I’m so happy to get that win, I think we’re off to a good start.”

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - A local singer from the Lehigh Valley has earned a top spot on a popular television singing competition.

20-year-old Laura Williams of Quakertown recently secured a spot on The Voice's Team Niall by singing the song "Fingers Crossed" by Lauren Spencer Smith.

Williams, who has overcome challenges after experiencing bullying and battling an eating disorder as an adolescent, says both her faith and therapy have helped her through those tough experiences.

She said she's healthy and happy now and that overcoming those adversities helped fuel her songwriting.

The power of persuasion can go a long way on "The Voice," but Niall Horan's boy bander charm is untouchable.

The One Direction alum gunned for singer Laura Williams alongside coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire during the fourth round of blind auditions Tuesday night. The 20-year-old earned a four-chair turn with her robust vocals and emotional cover of "Fingers Crossed" by Lauren Spencer-Smith.

"This is a very, very hard song to sing," Horan said. "Most people would get halfway through that chorus and pass out. No one can command a stage and project that well with breath control like you."

While speaking about her musical influences onstage, Williams revealed to Horan she is a longtime One Direction fan. "(I) saw you in 2015. Did you see me in the nosebleeds?" Williams jokingly asked Horan.

When it came time for Williams to select her coach, Horan asked if he could "be the one to ask you the big question," which Legend poked fun at as sounding like a marriage proposal. In response, Horan pulled off the ring he was wearing in a faux ceremonial gesture.
Wedding bells may not be ringing anytime soon, but Williams said "I do" to joining Team Niall.

20-year-old Laura Williams of Quakertown got a “four-chair turn” after singing Fingers Crossed by Lauren Spencer Smith.

Tuesday marked the fourth night of the blind auditions and Williams ended up picking Niall Horan as her coach.

This is Niall’s second season coaching as he won season 23 in 2022.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: 'The Voice' Season 24's 20-year-old singer Laura Williams stunned the judges with her soulful voice as she managed to turn all the 4 chair around. Being a singer and songwriter, Laura is devotional towards god, she says, "His gift for His mission."

The singer said in the Blind Audition round, "I'm from Quakertown Pennsylvania." She then went on to claim that she turned 20 two days before coming for the audition round.

The singer said, "Best birthday present I've ever got." As Niall Horan tried to persuade the singer to come in his team, he claimed, "May I be the one that ask you the big question?"

Laura, being overwhelmed with Niall as if he was going to propose her said, "You can, You could do both, I mean."

Niall then takes out his ring from his finger and claims, "Here you go." Well, this was just a gesture and Niall did not actually put the ring on Laura's finger.

Laura's journey on 'The Voice' was her 1st ever gig. She revealed that she had worked as a babysitter and graduated high school. She said, "I made the decision in April to defer from college for a year so I could take my shot at music."

Laura stunned the audience as well as the judges with her rendition on 'Fingers Crossed' by Lauren Spencer Smith. As soon as she started her song, Niall and Gwen Stefani became the first person to press the buzzer and turn around.

Reba followed the line with John Legend turning around int he end. Laura's parents cheered her in the backstage as they got emotional seeing their daughter's performance.

John gave the singer a standing ovation as the song ended. Gwen claimed, "Wow Laura you were one of the best I've ever heard." Niall affirmed, "For sure." John agreed, "No question."

Reba asked her fellow judges, "What is it called when a child 4 years old never played the piano before but gets up on the piano and starts..." John instantly answered, "Prodigy."

Laura who was shocked seeing Reba call her a prodigy claimed, "Are you calling me a prodigy Reba?" Reba then added that she has been performing since she was 13 and she wished she had the same confidence.

The coach added, "I'm gonna call a god-given gift." She added, referring to the god, "He did you a big ol' favor when he gave that to you."

It was a no-brainer for Laura to go with Niall. She already made it clear that she was a big One Direction fan.

She asked Niall, "Saw you in the 2015, did you see me in the nosebleeds in the back?" Niall jokingly answered, "Ohh yeah I have seen you."

John promises not to “over coach” the singer. “You’re so good and so raw at the same time.” Laura shares that her favorite artists include Tori Kelly, Serena Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello and Niall’s old band, One Direction. She jokes that she sat in the nosebleeds for one of the group’s concerts.

One of the most awe-inspiring blind auditions so far in The Voice's 24th season left all four coaches vying to guide 20-year-old singer Laura Williams.

Williams' Tuesday night (Oct. 3) rendition of Lauren Spencer Smith's "Fingers Crossed" made the contestant sound ready for prime time, although she claims it was her first-ever singing gig.

When it came time for the judges to recruit Williams to their teams, John Legend joked that Horan wanted to "pop the question." Horan rolled with the joke, taking off one of his rings as if he was going to drop to one knee and slide it onto Williams' hand.

After years of this, Laura's parents were so concerned they pulled her from school and opted for homeschooling. After a year of homeschool and a fresh perspective, Laura was ready to enter public middle school. During that time, she thrived and began singing in theater. Unfortunately, high school presented new challenges as she moved to a new area. Laura struggled with self-image issues, which led to the development of an eating disorder. After several years and with the support of her family, Laura leaned into her faith for healing and later on sought out therapy. Thankfully, she's healthy and happy now, and those experiences have fueled her songwriting.
