"Lovenoise:"

A Woman's perspective on K-Rob
Category: Music

Lovenoise
The deprived neosoul that I am I had never been to Lovenoise until Sunday night. My how I did love the noise that was made.... well for the most part. Some of the open mic acts were a mess to say the least, but the real entertainment for the night was definitely worth the price of admission. The brave souls that surrendered to the call of an open mic were amazing and not all of them in a good way. This one brother who has the audacity to call himself Masterplan (more like half-baked plan at best) got up there and proceeded to quiet the entire audience leading us to question if he was the comedy portion of the show. His imitation of Chris Brown and his painfully wack lyrics nearly drove a sister to tears. The main act more than made up for the lame antics of "Mastermind". K-Rob and his band took the stage and proceeded to move the house. Not one to be easily won over by artists who do covers of songs that I love, I have to say that I was feeling his version of Maxwell's "Get to Know You". I must say that this brother is talented, and I can understand why he has found success in other parts of the world. Not many men still have the ability to make a sister want to throw her Vickie's at them on stage. Now, I did get a lil' sick of his covering other songs, so delight was my only emotion when he sang a few of his own tracks. This was K-Rob's moment of truth with me. After hearing his catchy yet soul infused tune "2night" ( it kind of reminded me of some of Luther's newer stuff) I passed judgement. I'm feeling K-Rob and his sound; his voice is just the sort of thing to mellow out to after a long hard day (he's what I like to call bathtub music), but some of his lyrics don't seem to be as mature as the artists himself. I don't know if he's the Isley Brothers 2.0 as his promotion frequently claims, but I do see myself purchasing his album, putting it on my Ipod, possibly mixing in some of his tracks into my late night playlist. You can check out K-Rob for yourself on his MySpace page: www.myspace.com/kheights. You can also find more information about this artist at http://www.k-rob.us/. Personally, I hope that he achieves American success and grows lyrically into what an artist of his caliber should be.

After to have literally make go crazy the radio stations Englishes, Frenchmen and Japanese with its individual of debut "2nite" where its vocal style remembered Joe, Donell Jones and Usher, Kevin "K-Rob" Robertson returns with an energetic album, a mix of r' n' b and soul. "Life of the party" is a midtempo nouveau riche dance from the rap of Big Boss, "again (like the first thyme)" a ballad in style Joe while "lovers" is a fine piece r' n' b with an up-winning beat on a resonant carpet with of the Keyboards stilosissime. Refined the cover in version smooth of "golden lady" of Stevie Wonder, the hit to arrive "2nite" surely a span above the other, a piece with a sung and an immediate melody, ideal for the dancefloor how much for a private listening. They close this work the Latin one/rnb "the velvet room" and the remix of "2nite" produced for the English market from Josef and Madhatter that give back the piece an attractive stepper.! K-Rob has the cards in rule to become an artist mainstream, is provided of a fine one I stamp vocal and seems to have clear in head the type and the via to follow.! - Nu-Soul Train

K-ROB
September 28, 2006

A clubbing motif runs strong throughout Nashville R&B singer K-Rob’s forthcoming self-titled album. And when it comes to poppin’ bottles, it used to be all about Moet—now Cristal’s the thing, at least since 1996. K-Rob is still throwing back both those bubblies in “Lovers.” But by the time we get to “2nite”—where K-Rob tells his lady friend, “Put your body in this limousine, ‘cause I got plans for you”—somehow we’ve downgraded to Alizé on ice. “The Velvet Room,” where ladies are “showing their navels and their tattoos,” has a dancehall feel, and some lucky lady is getting her lower back tongued, her body candle-waxed and her feet kissed in the bump-and-grinding “Slow and Sexy.” The fresh surprise here, though, is a thoughtful cover of the oft-overlooked Stevie Wonder standard “Golden Lady.” BB King’s (Downstairs) —MAKKADA B. K-ROB

What do you get when you stir up soulful ingredients like hands-on experience as a soloist in his church choir; the uncle-brother influence of R&B legends The Isley Brothers mixed with a taste of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Earth, Wind & Fire and Marvin Gaye? Add a little spice and the ability to infuse the “feel” of yesterday’s R&B with the nuances of today’s R&B/Hip Hop lyrics, you’ve got the sounds, the flava of K-ROB. K-ROB is a singer/songwriter/arranger/drummer and producer. His vocal style has been compared to Usher, Joe, Howard Hewitt, Donnell Jones, and Maxwell.

It doesn’t hurt that K-ROB, like many of the most successful and innovative singers, from his uncles, The Isley Brothers to Bootsy Collins, hails from the Midwest. He acquired his southern roots as a graduate of Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. At TSU, he honed his craft through a diligent work ethic, and began to mold his vocal acuity as a featured vocalist for the renowned TSU Jazz Band. K-ROB also toured the region performing in various groups and festivals. He recalls, “My college experiences enhanced my experience as a diligent and diverse lyricist.”

His first single, “2Nite”, was a #1 Hit on various British Top 10 Charts—BBC 1Xtra & Soul 24-7 among others, and has currently charted on various DJ Record Pool charts in top USA markets. “2Nite” is currently in “rotation” and receiving radio airplay in 51 USA, major markets via The Michael Baisden Show, and has received additional airplay across other USA markets as well. “2Nite” was produced by Angelo “Lo” Ray, whose production credits include artists such as: Kevon Edmonds, “24/7”, David Banner, and Adina Howard; Other project producers include: Myron Davis, whose production credits include, Dru Hill’s “Tell Me”, and his debut, solo hit, “Destiny”; and Keith Robertson, whose songwriting/production credits include work for N-Sync, Teddy Pendergrass, and The Calloways.

K-ROB has opened for the likes of Brian McKnight and The Isley Brothers, and is currently in the process of releasing his third studio project.
