Bio
Born and raised in
Boston, MA, Kristen Long studied Classical Voice with Dr. Leslie Goldberg from
age 14 until leaving home to study Opera at The Hartt School of Music at the
University of Hartford, though contemporary music and theatre were where her
heart was, leading her to transfer to Berklee College of Music after only a
year at Hartt. At Berklee she studied with Donna McElroy, Kathryn Wright and
Sharon Brown, leading her to have a complex understanding of varying styles of
singing and vocal techniques that are present in those styles. She graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Vocal Performance from Berklee College of
Music in 2001.
The Minx of The Minx & The Maestro
Along with being a singer-songwriter, she is a Vocal Director at Royal Caribbean Productions, and Vocal Coach to many successful clients, including Shelby Brown(The Voice Season 9)
Long is the creator of The Journey: A New Indie Musical, which features her music along with the music of Long Lost Friend, the band she co-founded with husband and drummer, Walter Brewer. The Journey has been featured in the New Orleans Fringe Festival, along with in the 2013 season at the Silver Palm Award winning Outre Theatre Company, and the Arts at Saint John’s 2016 season, in Miami FL, of which she Directed, Music Directed and starred in. Bill Hershman from Florida Theatre Onstage wrote:
“Long could not be bettered in her vocal chops and her ability to infuse her singing with a bottomless depth of emotion. She and her entire company rip the psychic DNA out from the marrow of their bones and lay it out on stage like a sacrifice to the audience.” “Long’s music is an effective mélange of rock, jazz, reggae, torch, scat and a few other genres that are both melodic and moving. Her lyrics are well-constructed and approach poetic.”
As a singer/songwriter, Kristen has recorded in Nashville, Muscle Shoals, Austin, TX, and most recently at Anthony Crawford’s Admiral Bean Studio in Loxley, Alabama. She has three releases, full album Shoebox Memories, the single “The Sweetest Perfection” and her latest EP, Gypsy Soul, featuring Grammy Nominated cellist Rushad Eggleston (Fiddler’s Four, Tornado Rider, Crooked Still).
