“Lost The World” is the newest track from Nashville indie artist Kevin Campbell & The Wandering. New wave, softly arpeggiated guitar and reverb-laden drums provide a smooth surface for quiet storytelling vocals. Later, ultra long delay guitar and faraway vocals produce an ambient pool of sound.


It’s a contemplative song that reflects on losing an important figure in one’s life and learning to move on without them. The imagery is that of a long drive; often the best time and place for intensive introspection. We are impressed by the continuity between the instrumental and lyrical aspects of this track, as the music provides a platform not only for the artist to expound his meditative musings, but for us as listeners to meditate and reflect as well.

It had been a long time since we had seen a little indie-rock gem on IMC. I know, I say that every time, but it's true, good tracks in this genre are rare and I regret it. Fortunately, Kevin Campbell & The Wandering come to contradict me with their new release "Lost The World", out today. As Kevin said, "the song itself is about losing someone that is important to you and learning to move on and live life without them." With a unique and very relaxing electric guitar sound, the poetry of the lyrics and the almost divine melody instantly wowed us. The "oh oh" of the chorus reminded me of some epic pieces of other talented musicians, like Kodaline, or even Coldplay.

The production is excellent, signed Will Chapman of the band Colony House, who also play drums on this gem. "I've gained a lot but you know I've lost the world, I'm just a man who loved a girl" is the main line of the chorus and it's punchy enough to trigger the thrill. Although reminiscent of a certain Tom DeLonge, sometimes the voice is unique and gives the track a light and soaring atmosphere, and you quickly get hooked from the first listen. The addictive side is quite strong, which is a pretty good sign.

The latest track from Kevin Campbell & The Wandering is pure indie-pop charm. We imagine if The Killers microdosed mushrooms and performed a stripped-down set at Electric Forest, it might approach this track's chill, pastel vibe. “Used To Be Mine” has that warm mid-2000s pop-rock sound, but leans more toward the indie scene with carefree vocals and bright synth leads over washes of muted guitar. In keeping with the track’s theme of bygone love, our mind's eye envisions bittersweet rays of buttery sunshine peering through a rainy sky.

Besides a stunning artwork, Kevin Campbell & The Wandering’s new single ‘Orange Stripes’ is a gorgeous and atmospheric, filling track with an anthemic and slow build up that is amplified by warm vocals with a slight edge. ‘Orange Stripes’ is laid back and unhurried, but refined and with a smooth finish.

Campbell talks a little about how the single came to be: “This year I teamed up with Will Chapman of the band Colony House to produce and play drums on my debut record. ‘Orange Stripes’ is the first single we are releasing followed by a video in July.” Their nostalgic and comforting summer sound is the product of aforementioned collaboration and excites us muchly.

About the story behind the track, Kevin explains: “This song was written about a relationship that had solid roots until one day they were abruptly uprooted. It’s inspired by nostalgic summer love songs like ‘Summer of 69’ or ‘Boys of Summer’. This is a song about looking back on a first love and wondering where it went wrong…” - Music For The Misfits

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Campbell.

Hi Kevin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started playing music really early in life but really started playing in bands in high school. For a while, I toured around in a Christian pop-punk band called Air Ralley. We played for a couple of years and put out some records, but when the pandemic hit I kinda wanted to try something new. During the lockdown, I started writing some heavier songs that I thought needed a life of their own, so I started the project “Kevin Campbell & The Wandering. ”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a struggle starting fresh and stepping away from a band that had been around for a while. But it’s been super fun. I think anything that’s worth doing has its moments of struggle.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I write songs to help me make sense of the world around me. I sing about love, loss, faith, and whatever doesn’t make sense to me. I grew up playing in punk bands, so there’s always going to be an element of that in my music, but every song kind of has its own vibe and story to tell.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My faith has always been a driving force behind why I make music. I’m not a big fan of forcing my beliefs on anyone, but I feel like we can all relate to wanting to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. - Nashville Voyager
