Kathy

The year… 2015. The month… June (late June). As the opening of the national anthem starts for the graduating class of 2015, Kathy is immediately discovered by LeKiTa’s A&R.

Brooklyn born, to a musical reggae artist from New York, this local Tri-State artist was not able to spend a lot of time hanging out with friends and playing childhood games in the streets. Due to such an aggressive neighborhood, Kathy spent much of her childhood indoors. What kept life fun and exciting was her mother’s willingness to set aside time to teach her the fundamentals of the musical and vocal ARTS.

At age five she was given a cassette player that included tapes of gospel songs. Kathy recalls,”I played them over and over again until I taught myself to mimic the singers on the tapes”. This was only the beginning… This was the start of what fueled her passion for music. These were the early stages that helped distinguish Kathy as the first female R&B recording artist on the LeKiTa label.

When you hear the smooth vocals that Kathy conveys on her first single entitled “Time”, you will soon understand that her mother’s teachings are very significant to the LeKiTa sound in this new era.
