My name is Kate Grey, I’m 18 years old and am originally from Wisconsin.

What got me into music:

I have grown up around all different kinds of music, including a girl choir for many years. I actually didn’t start writing my own music until recently, but imminently realized my love for it.

Tell us about your new music:

“Class Of 2021” was actually one of the first songs I’ve ever written. I got the idea when driving home from an intense game of capture the flag at my high school with a random group of seniors. Because I was a new student, and we were on distance learning, I only knew one person at the school that night. Even though the unfamiliarity was intimidating, I was surprised by the amount of enthusiasm and gratefulness these other seniors displayed. I remember one of the popular teenage boys saying how grateful he was that we organized this little spontaneous game, and how much he appreciated being together and having fun. This not only shocked me, but inspired me to write this song. When I wrote the rest of this song, I wanted to make sure to capture the truth behind what me and other students around the whole world are experiencing. I wanted to turn this strange and difficult experience into something positive and relatable, making others like me feel less alone.
What makes my music unique and how would I describe it:
I don’t want to put my music in a category because of the diverse sounds I have to offer. “Class Of 2021” though is more of a pop, alternative piece.

Even though this is the first song I’ve released on multiple platforms, I would describe my music as fun and different. I like to include little details in my songs to make them complex and interesting to listen to.

My biggest musical Influences:

My biggest music influences include Billie Eilish, Drake, and Katy Perry.

Other obligations:

I am a senior in high school, so balancing my music with school can be a challenge. Because online school during the pandemic has offered more free time, writing and composing is a priority in my mind.

What’s next for me:

Because I am an unsigned independent artist, my goal is to keep writing quality music and learn more about this industry and who I am as a songwriter. I am hoping “Class Of 2021” brings new opportunities to meet people and grow as an artist. - XtraWave

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The 2020-2021 school year was a struggle for many students. Just ask most high school seniors.

For example, Kate Grey. The 18-year-old former student at Xavier High School in Appleton says she especially struggled when it came to virtual learning. So she packed her bags, moved to California to live with her grandparents and wrote down all of her feelings into a song. She released "Class of 2021" on May 10.

“Response has been good. A lot of people like it," says Grey. "My goal is to connect with other people who are feeling what I’m feeling, to make them feel less alone.”

Grey says you can find the song on Apple music, Spotify, Amazon Music and other music streaming services. She tries to write every day and has since released more songs on SoundCloud. - Fox11 News
