J.Lately hasn’t been glimpsed on our front page, um, lately (His last feature, exclusive freestyle DADAS, came eight months back.), but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about his many fans in the Booth. To show y’all how much he cares, the Northern California rhymesayer’s made his latest promo single a world premiere. This head-noddable jam features guest bars from Tia Nomore and a bluesy, sampled beat by 6Fingers. This record is unattached to anything larger, but fans will soon be able to catch J.Lately touring the globe with Golden State crew Zion I. The Album/Video:
Bay Area MC J.Lately‘s album Make.Believe is now available for purchase and download on Bandcamp. In addition to the album, J.Lately releases the video for his single “Roses,” featuring Grynch and produced by The Blacksmiths. Sporting a Hiero T-shirt, J.Lately spits solemn verses over chill synths and relaxed percussion.
Raised in Oakland until he was five, J.Lately later moved to Sebastopol, a small town in Sonoma County. He lived there until deciding to attend Pitzer College in L.A., where J.Lately started to immerse himself in hip-hop as both an artist and a fan. After graduating, he returned to Oakland to work as a high school teacher, eventually becoming a vice principal. J.Lately’s musical career has flourished, with recent successes including selling out The Hotel Utah in San Francisco and touring California.

After dropping "Save Yourself" alongside Blu last week, Cali spitter J.Lately returns with The Good Panda EP — an eight-track experience entirely produced by O.O.P.S. and Space Cadet. He sounds like a man who's grown up on plenty of Jay Z, as he tells stories of love, getting high and exploring who exactly J.Lately is.
