"I discovered Justin Russell Band when I was looking for some new and good country on Bandcamp. While the album is a country album, with obvious nods to past country greats such as Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, there’s a heap of southern rock sprinkled throughout. Vocalist Justin Russell has that deep southern voice that is a cross between Whitey Morgan and Gideon Smith. Song subjects revolve around typical country song subjects such as drinking and women but they’re not pop country. Nope, this is the good stuff. Thirty years ago you may have heard these guys pop up on the radio but not today. Such a shame too because these guys have a really good thing here.
