Jules Marie is a vocalist and songwriter from Philly and the surrounding suburbs who has released seven singles.
Her latest release, “LUCKY,” generated almost 20,000 streams in a single week. PW recently caught up with her to talk about her career and music.
Talk a little about how you first got into music. Who were some of your early inspirations?
I started my music journey at a really young age. I was that kid – the one who wouldn’t stop singing. I was always singing for my family at get togethers and holidays. I would stand on top of the table and perform for them.
I started songwriting and writing stories when I was in second grade, and I wrote my first full song when I was eight years old. I was a choir and theater kid pretty much my whole young life. I would have solos in the middle school choir, but I really got more serious as a musician with the start of high school. I was in community theater, the school musicals, and every choir they offered. I had some really great opportunities with those groups. I got to perform the national anthem at the Linc, The B101 Christmas Song Competition (now 101.1 More FM), and I even performed at The Kennedy Center.
My favorite artists growing up were people like Nelly Furtado, Macy Gray, Alicia Keys, Whitney Huston, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Alanis Morissette, Fleetwood Mac, and so many others. I had a lot of car rides back and forth between my mom and dad’s houses. My dad is a huge Frank Sinatra fan, and I think he definitely passed that influence onto me. We spent a lot of our drives together singing all of his songs. I think having an “Uncle Frank” (as my dad calls him) has definitely played a huge role in my voice. I tend to add touches of jazz/blues/soul to all of my music.
Philly will always have my heart.
You kind of grew up all over Pennsylvania, including Philly. What impact has the city had on your music? Are there any local artists who have influenced you?
Philly will always have my heart. As much as I love the woods and mountains and all the towns I’ve lived in, something about pulling into the city, no matter what time of day, just makes me feel at home. However, I especially love the city at night. After I turned 18, I can’t even begin to tell you how many nights and gallons of gas I must have spent just driving all around the city – listening to music, windows down. I did some of my best songwriting on those night drives.
I really just love our city. It has a vibe like no other. The food, the people, the sports and the concerts have all planted unforgettable memories in my mind. I even had my first busking experience right in center city. A few years ago, this random guy was sitting on the sidewalk outside of iHop playing his guitar and I just walked up and asked to sing with him, he said yes, and we ended up performing an impromptu acoustic version of my first single, “Breathe.” We had all kinds of people stop and listen. A friend of mine took a video of the whole thing, and that video has gotten tons of views from all over the place, it was even posted on @The.Viral.Voice on Instagram!
There are a lot of great musicians in Philadelphia – amazing studios, and so many venues to perform. I’ve recently met some local Philly musicians over at Obsidian Studios in South Philly. They are all so crazy talented! You can definitely expect to see big things from them/us in the very near future.

How would you describe your music? Does it fit into a particular genre?
I have been so happy that I have not been forced to pick a genre. I have so many different influences and combinations of styles. Articles written about my music have called me “genre-defying,” and I love that. I have never believed in staying inside a box, and I definitely don’t ever want to be stuck inside one with my music. If you have to put a label on it, my music is everything from R&B/Pop, to Rock/Soul/Edge, the occasional country, and some reviews even say that my songs have hints of rap. I like blurring genre lines with a sound that is uniquely mine. The genre of each song becomes however I’m feeling on that track, and the delivery of my vocals definitely differs from song to song.
Talk a little about your writing process. Where do you find the inspiration for your songs?
As young as I am, I have had a pretty crazy ride in life so far.
I write almost all of my songs in the notes section of my phone. Unless I write on my piano or with live instrumentation from my friend Sam Pappagallo, which has only been for a few of my songs, most start with a sound file of a beat/instrumental made by my friend Jared Stong (also known as Pimp Fried Rice). I can normally fill in the words pretty quickly, but sometimes all I have to start is a melody in my head that gets hummed out until the humming becomes words. Each song is unique and that has been the most exciting part. Seeing the progression of ideas and sounds and words all coming together to make something special. I still get as excited when it all comes together as I did when I wrote my very first song. The lyrics for all of my songs are very personal. They are usually based on my experiences, my opinions, or just my general emotions. I always want to write lyrics that I feel are genuine and meaningful.
As young as I am, I have had a pretty crazy ride in life so far. I feel like I have so many stories to share. Both good and bad. I also really focus on being open and real with people. I tend to write about how I view the world and how I view the whole journey of life. I’m human. We all are. And I think people can really connect with someone who is willing to share their own real life through their music.
Tell us about your latest single, “LUCKY.” How did it come together? What’s been the reaction from your fans, and how can people hear it?
“LUCKY” was written after one of my “usual drives” while sitting in my driver’s seat. It actually started on a different beat than the one that you hear released. It would’ve been a much slower paced song if we would’ve gone with the original version. I wrote “LUCKY” about realizations I’m having now as an adult about my childhood and growing up to this point. Time has gone by so fast, and as I look around in life I have been very lucky to “know both the mountains and the city streets” as the lyrics say. The song also talks about the lessons I have learned. I talk about finding your voice, and “using your pain to ignite a flame.”
I’m so grateful for the response from my fans and especially from my family. The song was inspired by a lot of my drives to the different places in Pennsylvania that my family lives in. As well as, of course, my drives through the city. My family really has been overwhelmingly supportive of this song. My grandparents actually said it’s one of their favorites! I also definitely have been overwhelmed with the fans’ and fellow musicians’ responses, and the amount of publicity this song has attracted. It has quickly become one of my most played songs, reaching over 20,000 streams on Spotify in just under two weeks. It continues to grow across all platforms. It is available on every streaming platform you can think of, and the video is available on YouTube.
What’s ahead for you once the pandemic clears? More time in the studio? Live shows?
I have actually been super fortunate to be able to continue to perform during the pandemic. I was invited to be a part of a few outdoor live music events. We had to be very careful, and make sure we were following all the rules, but I was able to get out and perform a few times on Bridge Street in Phoenixville and the beautiful Setter Ridge Vineyards. I currently have a few Pennsylvania and New Jersey performances scheduled toward the end of the summer and into the fall. I am definitely looking to fill up the rest of this summer with as many performances in as many different venues as possible. Including possibly some festivals! I also have been super fortunate to be able to continue working in various studios.
Obsidian And Screaming Parrot Studios have both taken the pandemic very seriously and always take all the proper precautions when recording. I plan to continue to work with both and also collaborate with some new artists/friends and their studios. I can’t wait for all the amazing collaborations I have coming, as well as all the new original singles I have in the works. My main goal post-pandemic is to finally finish putting together a tour, and be able to have large-audience concerts and festivals again! Soon! So soon! I’m ready. - Philadelphia Weekly
Jules Marie is a 23-year-old vocalist and songwriter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is best known for her unique voice, creative lyrics, and a wide range of vocal styles that range from RnB to rock, pop, alternative, indie, blues, country, and more.
She now has seven songs on all major streaming platforms, including four of her own originals, and filling up her booking schedule with performances.
Her latest single titled “Lucky” just released last April 2, 2021, and her song titled “Let You Go” just hit over 100,000 streams on Spotify, despite it being almost not released because of her self-doubt.
Hardwork And Individuality
But the road to becoming an artist isn’t an easy one, and Jules Marie knows that. So to those who are willing to go down the same road that she has taken, Jules Marie offers two tips on how to make it in the industry.
“It’s a really popular dream to have, but it’s all about how hard you work for it. If you want it, you have to keep going and you can’t quit when it gets hard. There will always be self-doubt and it won’t be easy, but if you love it and you’re passionate about it, it will be rewarding,” she said.
The other piece of advice that she has to offer is for aspiring artists to focus on their own journey and to not compare theirs with that of others.
“Everyone has their own path. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is the old you. If you’re giving your whole heart, working towards your dreams, and continuing to grow then you have already made it,” she said.
Taking Things Naturally
As a vocalist and songwriter, Jules needs a good amount of creativity and inspiration to create quality songs. So when she creates new songs, she takes all the time she needs and doesn’t try to force creativity to produce a more authentic output.
“Some songs are written all in one shot, but when I hit writer’s block with a project I will leave it be and work on something else. Some songs have sat unfinished for years before ever picking them back up,” she said.
Jules is also a self-managed artist who does everything such as promoting, booking gigs, and getting her music out there. It may seem a like a lot to handle but Jules has a way to handle things so she can best further her career.
“When I get stressed or burnt out I take time to just relax and not think too hard about it all. I have had a lot of success in a short amount of time, and although I have definitely put in a lot of work, I also have gotten some of the best opportunities without looking for them!” she shared.

Jules Marie, it is such a pleasure having you with us today! Your new single “Bulletproof” will be out tomorrow, June 4th; we had the chance to listen to the track, and let me say it is a great release that shows your talent as a performer and your artistic maturity! So, let’s start from the beginning; how did you discover your passion for music?
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I am so excited to share it with everyone. I think it is a really important song that a lot of people will be able to identify with. I started singing at a really young age. It was something I always knew I wanted to do and something I couldn’t stop doing even if I tried. I love all aspects of music. I love songwriting, and I really love performing! I feel the most myself when I am singing. It’s a kind of passion and expression that I haven’t been able to find anywhere else.
“Bulletproof” is such a powerful song, the melody is extremely catchy, and the lyrics carry a very powerful and inspirational message. Can you tell us more about this song?
Bulletproof was written in pieces over the length of a year. I started writing the song by saying, “Rest in peace to my youth,” because I was doing a lot of reflecting about how quickly my childhood went. Sometimes I feel like I grew up too quickly. I was always called “mature for my age,” and now that I’m an adult, I’m not sure how to feel. The very first lines of the song that you hear were actually written only a week before heading to the studio to record. I was sitting in my car after work one day and watching some videos of an artist who had become very successful very quickly, and I started getting emotional. I feel like sometimes I try really hard and still don’t get anywhere. At least in my opinion. I threw on the track I had been working on for bulletproof, and as I cried, the words “I’m trying Lord knows I’m trying” came out. I am thankful for that emotional moment because my favorite part of the song, a build between the first and second verses, uses those words “I’m Trying.” That part of the song was also a new last-minute edition. We were recording the song, and that part was going to be left blank, but the engineer told me to just “freestyle something.” I struggled for a little bit thinking too hard about what to put there, and finally, I said, “ugh, I’m trying,” and then a light bulb went off. That’s literally what the song is about; why not just use that? We layered a couple of takes of me singing I’m trying, and it’s such a powerful part of the song because it was so in the moment and genuine. This is definitely my most vulnerable song so far. I dug a lot deeper than I have in previous releases. The lyrics are catchy yet deeply personal. None of us are bulletproof. I bleed, bruise, hurt, and feel just like everyone else. One of the lines in the song says, “You would never know if you looked in my eyes, cause I got a big smile, it’s easy to hide.”
That line is very true to me. I think a lot of people would be surprised if they knew how dark and sad things can get inside my mind sometimes, or the uphill battle I have fought with depression since I was around 14 years old. I will be 24 on the day of this release. It’s hard to believe that it will be a whole decade of me battling through life. I am a really happy person on the outside, and when you meet me, I am always bubbly and outgoing. I think this song goes to show that you never know what someone could be hiding behind a smile or what struggles they might be battling.

What inspires you?
I pull inspiration from pretty much anything and everything. I am a firm believer that every experience we have and every person we meet helps shape us into who we are. I used to write poetry and stories when I was younger, and I think that definitely has helped my songwriting. I can write a song about anything as long as I feel connected with it or passionate about it.
The stellar songwriting level, the arrangements, and the brilliant production of “Bulletproof” are a sign you and your team have a clear idea of what direction you want your music to go. How important is it to collaborate with other talents that share the same artistic vision?
I love the people I have collaborated with so far. I have so many talented artists that have also become my close friends. My producer and beatmaker, Jared, who goes by the handle Pimp Fried Rice, is an old friend of mine. We reconnected a few years back, and we both are so passionate about what we do. He works really hard in all aspects of the business and has made huge strides for himself. I would like to think that he would say the same about me if this was his interview. It is really important to me that I work with people who love this as much as I do. If you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, it will definitely show in your work. The best creations come from passion, hard work, and consistency.
“Bulletproof” follows your previous single “Lucky,” another incredible track that shows another side of your artistic sensibility. Can you tell us more about this song? And are they somehow connected?
They actually are connected in a couple of different ways. I started writing both of them right around the same time period. I had been reflecting on my childhood and how I feel now that I am in my twenties. LUCKY talks about being thankful for all the places and people I have known and all the lessons I’ve learned along the way. These songs are also similar in that I am writing about myself in the first person. This has been a first for me. I had never written songs about myself directly. I usually wrote about life or generalized experiences and emotions. In these two songs, I address myself and talk about my personal life and personal thoughts and feelings. LUCKY is the happier side of things, and Bulletproof is the darker, more raw, sensitive side. I am getting more comfortable with my songwriting and being able to let people into my head a little deeper.

In my opinion, your new single has the potential to become an international Hit, both from the fresh sound and the catchy melody. The powerful message behind the lyrics of “Bulletproof” will undoubtedly inspire many of your listeners. Are you going to follow the same narrative also for your future singles?
Thank you so much! I feel the same way about this song. I think it has the potential to be an anthem for anyone who might be trying their best but still struggling with depression, anxiety, other mental health issues, or even just self-doubt in general. I want this to be the upbeat sad song they need to hear. I’m not sure if I will follow the same narrative for future releases; like I said, I write about all different topics, but I definitely am enjoying getting comfortable letting out the darker side of my emotions. I think being completely open and transparent about my feelings can help other people. It is definitely easier to connect with a song when you have felt the same things that are being said in the lyrics.
The past couple of years have been tough for musicians, especially for the live gigs. Many have migrated to live stream events on social media. Are you planning to play live anytime soon?
I am excited to announce that I will be performing at Setter Ridge Vineyards on July 17th!
And Boonton Farmers Market on August 14th and October 16th!
I am really excited to get back out and perform again, and I am also hoping to book up some more performances throughout the summer. I also have been working towards collaborating with some EDM artists so that I will be able to get on the lineup for some festivals!

If you could collaborate with an artist that inspired you and your music, who would you like to share a song or the stage with?
Wow, this is a tough one. There are so many artists across all genres that I would love to perform with. Definitely, if I had to pick three right now, I would love to collaborate with Sara Bareilles, Alessia Cara, and all three members of Lady A. They are all very inspiring and very talented.
One thing that we noticed immediately by listening to all of your songs, and that is evident also in your latest single, “Bulletproof,” is that your interpretational level is excellent. Did you attend vocal lessons, or are you a natural singer?
That is such a huge compliment. I used to be very self-critical and still can be sometimes about the way my voice sounds. I was in choirs pretty much my whole life up until leaving college. It has been about five years since I had any kind of formal vocal practice. I try and do vocal warm-ups and exercises before singing, but being honest, the amount of times I actually warm-up before performing or recording a song is maybe 1 out of 10. I have gotten really lazy when it comes to vocal conditioning, and that is something I need to work on being more disciplined about in order to preserve my voice long-term. But thank you! I really appreciate the compliment!
Jules Marie, it was such a pleasure having you with us today. Is there anything you would like to say to our readers?
This was one of my favorite interviews so far! You definitely had some great questions! Thank you for listening and giving your honest opinion of Bulletproof!
To all your readers, thank you for reading! I hope you enjoy my new single Bulletproof. It will be available June 4th on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and there will also be a music video released on YouTube the same day!
And please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or even if you just want to say hi! I am on all social media platforms! @JulesMarieMusic.

MARZ SITS DOWN WITH SINGER / SONG WRITER JULES MARIE TO TALK ABOUT HER NEW SINGLE, HER MUSICAL MOUNT RUSHMORE, AND A SUPER FUN GAME OF THIS OR THAT. - Down In The Den Podcast - Marz Entertainment
Q: Can you tell us a bit about”Bulletproof” and how did it come together?
JULES MARIE: Bulletproof is definitely my most vulnerable and soul-sharing release so far. Songwriting was a very emotional process for me. I was actually crying while writing the song’s intro. I think it was really important for me to share this. I struggle a lot inside my head, and not a lot of people know that by just meeting me. I wear a big smile, and I tend to hide the darker parts of my emotions for fear of being misunderstood. As I get older, I realize how short life really is and that you have to make every day and every moment count. I also think everyone misses their days as a young kid when the problems of the world hadn’t hit yet. I grew up a little faster than maybe some other people because of events that happened in my life, but I still remember the times before I had to worry or feel sad. I remember running around on the playground, I remember when going to school was my only obligation, and I remember the times when my worries were small. Adult life hits hard. That’s where the lyrics “Rest in peace to my youth” come from. I have gotten a lot of feedback from people telling me that this song was exactly what they needed to hear. That’s all I ever want. I love that this song has become the anthem for anyone who is struggling, and maybe even hiding behind a smile. None of us are Bulletproof. I bleed, bruise, hurt, and feel emotions just like everyone else. I am glad that others can feel and relate to the emotions behind this work.
Q: Growing up in Philly, can you tell us a bit about the city? What do you love and hate about it?
JULES MARIE: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Philly will always have my heart. The number of times I am in other parts of the country and I’m explaining something about where I’m from and I just say “it’s a Philly thing”. I feel like anyone from Philadelphia and the surrounding areas understand that concept. Things are just different there. The people, the culture, the food, the music. It’s all so unique, but also all so connected. It really is the city of brotherly love. It’s all love.
I can’t really say anything I personally hate at all about Philadelphia. Traffic in South Philly is never fun. Honestly, traffic everywhere around the city isn’t fun. Pennsylvania in general is notorious for having bad roads, and constantly being a construction zone. Aside from just the traffic, I think the one thing that bothers me about Philadelphia is the people who give it a bad reputation. Just like any city, there are some not-so-good things that happen, but that does not define the people and the city as a whole. There is more love than hate in Philly and I wish that the news would reflect that more often than the negatives.
Philly and the surrounding suburbs are my home. I know almost all the roads within a 45-minute radius like the back of my hand. (Although I haven’t crossed the bridges over to the Jersey side very often) I spent a lot of late-night drives just wandering around wasting gas, but gaining mental clarity and some of those moments I’ll never forget.
Q: What do you write about?
JULES MARIE: I write about life mostly. My own personal experiences, but also the general human condition and things I think people need to know/learn. I write about topics I feel strongly about, but I also write songs about love and relationships. I have written some fun summer songs (That I might release by the end of the summer. If not then next summer for sure) I love to write about things that are relatable, but my style doesn’t necessarily stick to one topic or niche. Also, my writing process is a bit different from others I think. I tend to write in more of a stream of consciousness or almost poetic way. All songs are a form of poetry, but I tend to wordplay a lot and experiment with different rhyming patterns. I normally don’t even have a topic or a “story” before I start a song. I just start. I come up with the story and the topic(s) as I go.
Q: Where do you find the most inspiring and stimulating for you?
JULES MARIE: I always end up writing in a vehicle. It’s just what I’ve gotten comfortable doing. For years I would spend hours and hours sitting in my car/truck by myself just passing time. Sometimes not even driving, just sitting in parking lots. It could have something to do with my mental state over the years, but I’ve found that I really get a clear head in the driver’s seat. It’s also really easy for me to write that way because I can literally park or drive anywhere and have my own creative space. I can put the instrumental track/beat on through my car speakers if there is one, and I have everything I need.
Q: How is your creative process like?
JULES MARIE: I normally start with a beat made by my friend Jared (Pimp Fried Rice) or other producer friends of mine. Sometimes I just start with a melody hummed out in my head until I replace it with words. I don’t normally write a song all in one shot. I piece it together over a few different sessions like a puzzle. Some of my earlier songs were written in one 45 minute shot, sitting in my vehicle of course. I let each individual song have its own workflow. I never try and force a song to be finished if it’s not. When I get stuck I’ll either work on a different project or just stop writing and do something different altogether.
Q: What are you currently working on?
JULES MARIE: I have two fully recorded songs that are just waiting to be mixed and mastered before they will be released in the next few months. I have way too many unfinished songs in the notes section of my phone, and I have about 4 or 5 fully written songs that still need to be recorded. I also have a few collaboration projects that are in the works with some new artist friends of mine.

Jules Marie is back in the game with her new single called ‘Bulletproof’. In the single, the upcoming singer and songwriter talk about how we humans are so vulnerable yet so afraid to reveal it. Although the song has sad undertones, its composition is very catchy.
Jules started releasing her original songs in 2019, and ‘Bulletproof’ is her seventh original song. Meanwhile, she collaborated with fellow artists and has been part of nine songs in the past two years. ‘Let You Go’ is her most popular single. It was streamed by 130k Spotify users. Her recent single ‘LUCKY” was also well received, and over 20k users streamed it within a week of release.
Early Life
Music is something that has always fascinated Jules. She remembers being an active member of her school choir group and attending every musical fest in the town. Jules even made a youtube channel wherein she used to upload song covers of her favorite pop stars. Jules envisioned becoming a pop star but never had the confidence to say it out loud. She felt her career choice was an untraditional choice and invited mockery.
Jules was diagnosed with depression at the age of fourteen, which severely affected her mental health. Tasks like waking up and doing basic chores became impossible for her. She overcame it with the help of her family, friends, and music. Jules had not yet given up on the dream of becoming a singer and applied for a singing course in her town’s community college. However, one semester into it, she hit rock bottom and decided to quit her education and dream.
Jules then worked multiple jobs for the subsequent year. After the end of her shift, she often found herself writing songs in the driver’s seat of her car. She realized that her passion for music was far from over. However, Jules was not confident about putting herself out again. She started collaborating with fellow singers and assisted them in composition. Finally, when Jules felt confident in her skills, she released her first single called ‘Breathe’ in 2019. At that time, she went by the stage name of ‘Jules.’, she later adopted her full name i.e. Jules Marie as her stage name.
Living Her Life Through Her Passion
Jules has performed at The John F. Kennedy Center and even had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. Jules is already making waves in the music industry and is aiming to be a Recording artist member and hopefully Grammy nominated by 2022.
Jules says that performing and watching people enjoy her music has been one of the most fulfilling things of her job. She terms it as ‘pure magic’. Jules wants to inspire people to follow their dreams while being open about her struggles. Shortly, she plans to release more new singles and perform at bigger venues. She is also in the process of launching her own merchandise and is currently setting the base for it. Fans can expect a lot of exciting things from Jules.

Wow..just wow this new music from @julesmariemusic rips into your soul. We all have been in a spot where we hide our feelings behind a smile and “Bulletproof” speaks to that emotion. #phillymusicscene #newmusic #julesmarie #music #listennow - @PhillyMusicScene
Jules Marie is a singer and songwriter from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has released 7 singles till now, and Lucky is her latest single that has taken the Internet by storm.
We like everything about this song, the upbeat background music, the brief rapping, and the lyrics. Jules Marie has certainly outdone herself with this latest single. She has combined different genres to produce an enjoyable masterpiece. The background music is a unique blend of striking and contrasting melodies, which gives the song such a fun vibe. It reminds you of carefree days and fun, enjoyable moments. Jules Marie has also added a bit of rap in the song, which is definitely our favorite part of this track. Our music industry had far too few female rappers, and it's certainly nice to see more women trying out this genre. And if you don't like rap much, don't worry. This is not one of those hardcore rap songs. It features just a little bit of rap for added spice to uplift your mood and give you a much-needed boost of confidence and motivation.
Another thing that we absolutely love about this song is the lyrics. Although the song is all fun and upbeat, the lyrics have a strong purpose and vibe. The song definitely has the potential to be a female empowerment anthem as it encourages you to speak your mind and make all the noise you want! It urges you to take action and transform your life for the better. However, that's not the main theme of this song. Lucky by Jules Marie is all about motivation, remembering your roots, where you come from, and going ahead in life. It is all about taking charge, finding your voice, and bravely carrying it forward.
It also has a bit of a nostalgic element when Jules highlights her childhood.
Looking out the window as a child
Now I'm in the driver's seat
An old friend sent me this beat
And the only thing I know to say
Is that the days change, but the routes stay the same
Oh, how we love the last line. It is such a powerful and poetic song that you are bound to have this on repeat. You can definitely see that this single is nothing less than any poem. Jules Marie has certainly crafted the most exquisite lyrics, beautifully encompassing different emotions, ranging from nostalgia to faith and motivation. But she has kept the background music very upbeat, which is the best part.

Let's hear her musical journey…
Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us about yourself.
I am a singer, songwriter, and performer from all over Pennsylvania. From the city of Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs to the Pocono Mountains.
Please tell us more about your journey.
I have been singing since I can remember. Some of my earliest memories include performances on top of family Thanksgiving tables singing “Tomorrow” from Annie. And pretty much performing and singing to anyone who would watch and listen.
I've always had a special connection to music. It has followed me through all the stages of my life. I started songwriting and writing stories when I was in second grade. I wrote my first full song when I was 8 years old. I was a choir and theater kid pretty much my whole young life. I would have solos in the middle school choir, but I really got more serious with the start of high school. I was in community theater, the school musicals, and every choir they offered. I was in concert choir, women's choir, and the select audition-only choirs like Vocal Ensemble and Vocal Jazz. I had some really great opportunities with those groups. I got to perform the National Anthem at Lincoln Financial Field, and I even performed at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
I graduated high school in 2015 and went on to pursue music in college. I went to Montgomery County Community College and majored in music. I only completed one semester and a half before deciding the college route wasn't for me.
I had some traumatic events happen that year and actually considered giving up pursuing music altogether.
Spoiler Alert. I didn't. And I'm so thankful I didn't.
Jules Marie
Please tell us about your music projects.
I released my first single, ‘Breathe,' under the name ‘Jules.' in 2019 before realizing that my name Jules Marie was unique to me. (If you look up Jules Marie on Spotify or Apple Music, I am the only one).
I have released 7 singles total till now, including 2 renditions/covers of popular songs and, of course, 5 originals written by me.
My newest single LUCKY, just came out on April 2nd and has been by far my most successful. It already has almost 20k streams in just one week!
That's HUGE for me. And with all the music I'm working on, I feel like there's nowhere to go but up!
Jules Marie
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I honestly don't have much of a strategy for success. Having a lot of successful friends in the music industry definitely helps! And I have learned a lot by watching them. I have also just been really focused on being open and real with people, especially with my lyrics. I tend to write about how I view the world and how I view the journey of life. I'm just a person. We all are. I think people really connect with someone who is willing to share their life in their music.
Jules Marie
Any message for our readers.
My message is to keep going. Especially when it gets tough or you feel like giving up, or you feel like you've gotten nowhere. There are always ways to grow and become whatever version of success is meaningful to you.
Fantastic! So tell us, how can people find out more about you?

Philly-hailing singer-songwriter Jules Marie has garnered plenty of hype since releasing her debut single in 2020. After the release of her latest single, Bulletproof, it is hard to see how anything could get in the way of her trajectory to the top. Her accessible girl next door vibes mixed with her infectiously empowered attitude in Bulletproof was discernibly a recipe for success. Not only is she an artist that you can be in awe of, but she is also an artist that you can relate to.
Instrumentally, Bulletproof is a smooth and stylish feat of indie pop, while Jules Marie pulls nuances of RnB into the mix in true 90s and 00s pop style. Any fans of Nelly Furtado, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson and Natasha Bedingfield will definitely want to pay attention to the artist that has already racked up 100k streams on Spotify alone.

From gentle chords to fast paced drum beats, you know this is a track that's going to explode with sound from the start. The track captures the essence of funk, modern pop, and soul all in one.

With her second single of the year released on April 2nd, 2021, Jules Marie has gone above and beyond on her latest, “LUCKY”. Please read along with us as we share our in-depth analysis on the track, as well as a background on the artist as well.
Based out of Philadelphia, PA, Jules Marie is a 23 year old vocalist and songwriter who is audibly getting better with each and every single release. While “LUCKY” certainly blurs the lines of a specific musical genre, there’s glimmers of Pop and R&B that Jules has included, on top of her signature brand of sound that we’ve quickly come to love. We can confidently state now, that this newest single is an absolute hit.
As a lover of performing, singing, and just being generally involved with music, Jules Marie is giving the gift of her uniquely put together vocals for all who are willing to listen. We couldn’t help but instantly be captivated by not only the way she’s delivering her lines, but the over the top production style that fit so well within the atmosphere of the song and the message.
Specifically on the track though, Jules Marie filled us in on its origins in which she said, “I wrote “LUCKY” about my realizations now as an adult about my childhood and growing up to this point. I feel like time has gone so fast and as I look around in life I have been so lucky to ‘know both the mountains and the city streets’ like the lyrics say. The song talks about the lessons I have learned and how I view life. I talk about finding your voice, and ‘using your pain to ignite a flame’.
You can tell immediately from the lyrics that the song is empowering, and honestly it must have felt pretty great to turn those feelings into something real. Now while this was our first introduction into the music of the artist, let it be known right now that it’s certainly not going to be our last. Our musical homework for the coming week is to start from the beginning and actively listen to the musical evolution that she’s endured as an artist.
Seriously though, if you’re not hopping on this song right now, you’re missing out. With so many great effects like layered vocals, a booming bass, and a vocal range that’ll send shivers down your spine, “LUCKY” needs to be next up in your listening queue. It’s not only a single we’re recommending, but an artist as well.
