JR is an up and coming Hip-Hop/Reggaeton rapper, producer, and songwriter currently living in Los Angeles, CA. Growing up the son of an R&B/Hip-hop artist (Marquis Canaan), JR naturally gravitated towards music at the age of 16, under the tutelage of his
father. “I want to reach the whole world with my music; my dream is to be one of the greatest ever”, says JR. After releasing the mixtape, titled “The Rundown”, JR has released his first two EP’s titled, “El Amor Quebrado” and “The Dark Room”. Both projects were written, produced and performed by JR.
“The Dark Room” is JR’s first English-language EP. This is JR’s heart and soul in a set of 4 mp3’s on my hard drive. You can tell the amount of time, care and skill went into crafting these songs. His choice of themes, range of emotions and lyrics, power a deep journey into the mind of the man behind the mic. His lyrics are raw, his flow is smooth, and he changes speeds and tones with ease.
JR-CoverJR holds his own in a saturated crop of new rappers. Every single beat on this EP is catchy and will pursue you wherever you go. There seems to be no way to escape these beats and force them out of your head, and quite frankly, they are so good you will be pleased that they leave such a lasting impression. The beats do great justice to the EP because they allow it to transcend stereotypes and break barriers.
“The Dark Room” has everything a good hip hop record needs; top notch production, sincerity, and most importantly, the EP is cohesive. This, to me, is JR’s heavy hitter. This record is his juggernaut. It’s got a deep, dense bass sound throughout the EP. The lyrics are personal observations of the society we live in. Catchy hooks, JR’s signature voice and flow are all presented here to the listener. You can sit and listen to this EP, and get a better understanding of the life JR leads. “Do What I’m Askin,” “Love Women” and “Convertible” are my favorites. I turn the bass all the way up when I play this record.
Throughout “The Dark Room”, the L.A. MC’s flow is agile and wordy. He performs like a rising icon in hip-hop culture and his music is very powerful. He makes real songs about his life and about those around him. The most important part I feel about this EP is JR doesn’t step away from what he’s been doing in the game up until now. But rather, he shows that he has grown as a bilingual artist and is ready to take on the world. From top to bottom, “The Dark Room” was put together thoughtfully. Without a doubt, JR is definitely in his zone here! - Jamsphere

1) What keeps you motivate when it comes to your music?
My dreams motivate me. I have such big aspirations I’m working towards, and the more support and affirmation I get from my fans, the more I’m motivated to push every single day.
2) When you think of “Vintage Media Group”, what comes to mind?
When I think of Vintage Media Group I think of modern hip-hop culture wrapped in a magazine. You guys do a great job of shining light on the up and coming artists we have in today’s world. Sometimes it’s hard to gain attention from bigger magazines because they only want to publish established artists. So I also think of the word “opportunity”!
3) Being that you are from Los Angeles, what is the state of Hip-Hop there? How would you titled your style of music?
Hip-Hop in LA is reignited. With guys like Kendrick Lamar, YG, and DJ Mustard really putting on for the city in the past five years, the state of hip-hop is great. There’s a mix of conscious or “lyrical” rap, but there’s also a lot of turn up rap coming out of the city. I would title my music as “Modern, Urban, and Unique”.
4) With your most recent EP…”The Dark Room EP” is DOPE. Can you give us some details on how you came up with that song?
Well I came up with the Dark Room EP this summer, I just worked really hard to put together a quality EP with each track being distinct and well written. I came up with the song “Convertible” because I know a lot of girls who are in relationships that “don’t act like they’re in relationships” when they’re around me LOL. So when I was writing the song, it all just came together perfectly, and was easy to write.
5) Where can your fans & supporters find you online? Via Twitter, Facebook, etc.?
My fans and supporters can find me on IG, FB, Twitter, Soundcloud, Spotify and much more. The links to them can be found on my website at ItsJRJones.com

6) Who are some of your influences?
I have so many! Number one, I have to give it to Lil Wayne. I grew up on his music. But in reality my dad Marquis Canaan, is a singer, and so music was all around me growing up. Other influences include: Lauryn Hill, and Tupac.
7) Any Last Remarks?
I worked so hard to write, and produce all the songs on my EP’s., I love interacting with any of my supporters so reach out to me! My VEVO page should be online in 2-4 weeks, with the debut of my single “Convertible”. I also have some clothes coming out soon, to stay updated join my mailing list on ItsJRJones.com. Lastly, I want to give a big shout out and thanks to Vintage Media group, for having me and sharing my work, I appreciate the love yal!!
