Born and raised in Las Vegas, Jordan Kate Mitchell naturally gravitated towards bright neon lights and entertainment. She grew up singing in the church choir where she developed her real love for music and singing. She has been influenced by artists like Patsy Cline, Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones, Bob Dylan, and Bonnie Raitt. Jordan blends country, pop and rock and sings with enough passion that will melt even the coldest of hearts. Her lyrics craft sweet with heartbreak, love with humor. It’s not trying to be something it’s not; it’s trying to be something it is. Real. She’s easy to love and hard to forget. - VegasNews.com

Rock City
Get in tune with the local music scene
If you think the Las Vegas music landscape is all marquee residencies, gazillionaire DJs and Elvis impersonators, think again. The local scene is humming with talent spanning across genres, from hip-hop to rock to blues. And residents and tourists are taking notice, supporting these bands at new, smaller venues such as Gold Spike and Backstage Bar & Billiards Downtown and House of Blues and Hard Rock Live on the Strip. Then there was the inaugural Life Is Beautiful festival last fall, which, in addition to showcasing national acts, gave some love to homegrown musicians, offering them a taste of the big leagues right in their own backyard. Imagine Dragons and The Killers are just the beginning of our musical (r)evolution, it turns out. There’s plenty more where that came from. Here are a few of our picks for the next great artists you’ll love.

Check her out if you like … Kacey Musgraves, Christina Perri or Patsy Cline. Mitchell counts Reba McEntire, Frank Sinatra and gospel choir as major sound inspirations. On the cusp: “A year ago, I was begging to play free showcases and my favorite dive bars. Now I’m headlining Brooklyn Bowl. It’s craziness.” The talented lyricist also played Life Is Beautiful in October. On her playlist: Allen Stone, “Voodoo”; anything by ZZ Ward; John Legend, “All of Me.” Insider Intel: Mitchell attended West Texas A&M on an equestrian scholarship, where she won a national championship and now pays the bills as a model, event consultant and personal assistant to John Popper of Blues Traveler. Next up: In addition to making the rounds in the local scene, Mitchell plans to go on tour next year. Downtown's Life Is Beautiful Festival has revealed its inaugural lineup, and it includes two of the biggest bands ever birthed by the Las Vegas music scene. Topping the bill are The Killers, that multi-platinum-selling quartet that has headlined festivals from Coachella to Glastonbury. And one line down on the LIB poster sits Imagine Dragons, whose debut album, Night Visions, reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and currently sits at No. 13, 38 weeks after its release.
Co-headlining the two-day fest—scheduled for October 26 and 27—are Tennessee alt-rockers Kings of Leon, who have placed four singles at the top of the U.S. Alternative Singles chart. And joining Imagine Dragons just below the headliners: alt-rock icon Beck, electronic acts Pretty Lights and Empire of the Sun, indie popsters Passion Pit and reunited hip-hop outfit Jurassic 5.

I blame my wife for my latest crush because she went through my music and started playing Jordan Kate Mitchell's album "Sarcasm and a Gun" on my computer. Yes, I let it keep playing but what was I to do? Her voice has that combination of old and new that I desire from a vocalists. Her tone displays the passion in her lyrics and she delivers the music in such a way that I'm slowly singing along to songs with titles like "Break from Men" and "Mr. Wrong" loud enough for others to hear. Mitchell is a Las Vegas native and is part of a huge music scene that is overflowing with talent right now.
Though music is Jordan’s first love, she was brought up riding horses and competing in horse shows. She showed quarter horses at a very young age, and was eventually recruited by West Texas A&M University’s top ranked Equestrian Team. She went on to win the 2009 Collegiate National Championship in Reining. While devoting her college career to becoming a national championship rider, she also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in business with a minor in musical theatre. - Go Vegas
With both the Homegrown stage and the Red Bull Sound Select stage, local bands will have a big presence at Life Is Beautiful. What will they be doing when they aren’t playing? Watching live music, of course. Here’s what the festival’s local performers can’t wait to see:
“Please, I’m a Vegas girl. The Killers and Imagine Dragons all the way! Also, ZZ Ward is one of my very favorite artists. I listen to and sing her songs every day and am super honored to be playing on the same bill as her.” – Jordan Kate Mitchell, performing at 3:45 p.m. Sunday on the Homegrown Stage.

"This girl cannot only drink you under the table, she’ll write about it too! Jordan blends country, pop and rock to formulate her style and she sings with enough passion that will melt even the coldest of hearts. Her songs come truth and experience. With producer Peter Distefano, Jordan crafts sweet with heartbreak, love with humor. It’s not trying to be something it’s not; it’s trying to be something it is. Real. I’ll say this much, she’s easy to love and hard to forget." - Smash Magazine

"Jordan Mitchell will not only drink you under the table but she'll write about it too. Her witty, yet heartfelt lyricism packs enough charm to win anybody over. It's a little bit folk, a little bit poppy and just a tad bit serious. In all honesty, she's the total package and then some! You would be a fool not to take notice." -Jon Bonham Fox, Smash Magazine.
