Bio

Johnny Mac Slater is a Hamilton based singer-songwriter backed by The Dirt Dogs from Burlington, ON.  With his raw country rock sound, he weaves a rural sensibility throughout his descriptive writing and punctuates it with a contemporary edge. Slater creates image driven verse that demands reflection and frames it with big memorable, melodic choruses that seal the deal.

His music is best described as fully loaded country- all the way from the breakup pain to the backwoods party. Whether it’s the arena rock thunder of ‘Call of the Wild’ or the heartfelt angst of ‘Kiss Me Like You Mean It’, JMS tells diverse and captivating stories that we can all relate to.

Bitten with the song writing bug, he continues to make journeys to Nashville for both song pitching and inspiration. Not only is he influenced by where he comes from, but also by many great artists including country icons Keith Urban, Eric Church and Kenny Chesney. But don’t let his country side fool you as he enjoys all genres and is influenced by all genres of music.

Over the years, Slater has worked with many entertainers in the music industry including Reba McIntyre’s band which he recorded a demo with in Nashville; Ray Lyell from Hamilton, as well as Hamilton’s own, Carl Jennings of Freedom Train, who he’s worked with recording his last 15 songs for his latest project.
