Denton multi-instrumentalist and singer Jo Higginbotham drops his debut EP, Second Thoughts, today.
Higginbotham is a recent University of North Texas graduate who approaches songwriting with a generous sense of space and style that swaggers with folksy twang.
The Fort Worth native sports a reedy, thin tenor -- it's not the strongest voice in the Denton Americana scene. But he fills out his songs with slow-burn reverb and snappy drumming. If you like youthful looks at true love ("Love in the Moment") and pop ("Second Thoughts") that borrows wobbling organ phrases from a rickety country church, Higginbotham's EP should be on your radar. It'll be available at www.johigginbotham.com, iTunes and Google Play.
Higginbotham plays a CD release show from 6 to 11 p.m. today at Backyard on Bell, 410 N. Bell Ave., with Tori Sloan, Caleb Coonrod, Noise Brigade and Betty Cruisers.

"Fort Worth native...singer-songwriter, now based in Denton...[Higginbotham's] vocal phrasing is shades of Bob Dylan — and a knack for melodies that stick in your head, marking him as a local performer to keep close tabs on." -Preston Jones
