"Picture Book & Live Review: Soup w/ Jessica Cayne @ Smith’s Olde Bar, 11/10/12"

It’s a strange, yet very satisfying feeling that occurs when you show up to a sold out show for a band you’ve never heard of. I do pride myself on having a fairly eclectic knowledge of modern music, but as it turns out, I was blissfully ignorant of the special occasion that was to occur on Saturday as I stepped into Smith’s Olde Bar for the Soup concert. The drinks were flowing and a steady stream of people were spilling into the venue as the opener, Jessica Cayne, took the stage. Jessica sounds like what would happen if Christina Aguilera abandoned dance-pop, learned to play a guitar, and started writing acoustic rock songs. She has a strong soulful voice and really works her vocal range within a song, all the while strumming out groovy chord progressions on her acoustic guitar. With lyrics such as, “He got moves that make me wanna rip my clothes off,” Jessica indulges the the raw sexuality of rock ‘n’ roll and has a no-nonsense attitude that is always prevalent in strong southern women. Her sexy performance was the perfect starter to rouse the crowd’s appetite for the main course: Soup.

Nashville Dinner Theatre CMA Fest Review
By David Lowry
Nashville Dinner Theatre CMA Fest Review

A couple of weeks ago I became the talent buyer for the Nashville Dinner Theatre and I had the “opportunity” to throw together a CMA Fest showcase with about four days to make it happen before the biggest Country Music festival in the world kicked off. Four days full of music from 2 pm to 2 am Thursday through Sunday. It was a whirlwind for sure and I faced just about every adversity you could think of during that time but we came out of it clean and ready to make great things happen.

I want to highlight some of the artists that I got to see at our venue during those four days and maybe talk about a couple disappointments so that maybe some other musicians trying to make it can take something away from it.

...the biggest surprise for me was Jessica Cayne (www.jessicacayne.com.) This woman has a huge voice, a great sense of humor and best overall ability to interact with the audience. She wrote great songs and kept me entertained and laughing. If you knew me, you’d know how hard it is to impress and entertain me. Jessica just signed a new publishing deal, which will hopefully get her songs out there more, but it’s her voice and big personality that should send her over the top. Keep you eyes on this one as well. - The Lowry Agency

ON THE SEASON 2 PREMIERE OF "DATING IN THE DARK,"
MONDAY, AUGUST 9 ON ABC

"Episode 201" -- Back for its second season, "Dating in the Dark" is the unique reality series that asks the age-old question, "Is Love Blind?" In the premiere episode, three men -- nerdy Dave, sexy Storm and fat-phobic Joey - move into a house with three women - spunky Kym, bubbly Natasha and Country singing beauty Jessica - where they'll be totally sequestered from the opposite sex while given the opportunity to date in complete darkness. With looks taken out of the equation, these six singles will do whatever it takes in the darkroom to find their perfect match, on the season two premiere of "Dating in the Dark," MONDAY, AUGUST 9 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

After several days of dating each other in the darkroom, the participants will select the one member of the opposite sex that they want to see revealed in the light. "CAYNE | EMERGING ARTIST"

Nashville’s CAYNE brings together the best of rock ‘n roll, soul, hip-hop, and gospel, becoming the face of Music City’s future.

Beyonce raised more than a few eyebrows, including Jack White on 2016’s “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” off of her legendary Lemonade album. After all, what does the Motor City madman have to do with the cutting edge of avant-garde hip-hop, from the likes of boots, Diplo, James Blake, and Kendrick Lamar? Taken in context, however, White’s crunchy, diesel-soaked garage rock makes total sense, making for one of Lemonade’s most striking moments, and bringing Queen Bey a whole slew of new indie fans.

Nashville’s Jessica Cayne performs a similar alchemy, but in reverse. As CAYNE, Jessica Cayne updates classic soul roots rock with a powerful, hip-hop/r&b low-end. Kick drums bang like an artillery section, while ponderous hand-claps bring the party vibes, undeniable and irresistible.

Despite being one of the Uniterd State’s biggest music capitals, Nashville isn’t as influential as it once was, outside of the Country Music Industry. Consider any season of The Voice when Blake Shelton is judging. There will be one or two Stetson-ed contenders amidst a bunch of Pop Idols and would-be rappers. Artists like CAYNE could help put Nashville back on the map, bringing its illustrious musical history and the incredible chops it produces to a larger audience.

Take a listen to 2016’s “In The Weeds,” co-written with Jon Buscema to get a sense of what Nashville might sound like, in 5 years. And remember, you heard it on We Are: The Guard first!
