Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Biddles.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeremy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It started before I even knew I wanted to be an artist. My dad opened up a church and I begin to play keyboard there and started taking lessons to learn. I’d learn on my own and by lessons that I took for a year. I learned more on my though and from things I picked up on overtime or was taught by other people. This started a little over ten years ago. Fast forward to 10th grade, I begin to go to these meetings at school called Jesus Revolution and I had given my life to God that year after attending the first meeting. I also happened to meet here a girl there who sung. Me and her became close and one day I told her that I could sing. I believe she was the first person I had ever told. I knew I could sing but I didn’t sing in front of people because I was too nervous to, but me and he began to sing together at these meetings during worship. Singing with her was progress for me. One day there was another meeting except it was only me and a guy friend of mine who I’d also met there. I played the piano as he prayed. During that time, I felt the desire to sing so I began to quietly to myself, not wanting to sing aloud alone. It felt weird.
While doing that, God told me to sing louder, so I gradually increased in volume. He then told me that when I sing, don’t look at the people or worry about the people in the room, but to sing to Him. So I’d closes my eyes and sing to God, focused on Him and not the people around. In doing so, I’m not only found comfort in singing aloud and alone but also freedom in singing with the passion I have for Him. I ended up singing at nearly full volume, if not. Either before then or afterward, I had fallen in love with worship to God. I have fallen in love with singing and playing for Him. Fast forward again to, I believe in 11th grade, exam week. I’m in class, heartbroken over a relationship, and I begin to write down what I feel and it turned into a full page, front and back, poem, that I still have to this day. I’d discovered that I had the gift of writing. Writing how I felt in the form of poetry was therapeutic. Writing poetry then turned into writing songs.
I remember writing my first song, sitting on my room floor with my keyboard, singing out my problem and my surrender to God. As time went on, songs began flowing out of me, too many to count. I knew I wanted to sing for God and worship for a living. God had also given me the vision of leading worship in big arenas. I later picked up drums and guitar. Drums came naturally to me, but guitar took some time; though I feel I kind of picked it up fairly quickly. Time goes on and my dad closes the doors of his church and we church hop for a while, trying to find the right one. Among the churches we’d go to, certain people would prophesy about me doing music for God, writing and playing different instruments. Some of them didn’t even know that I write or play different instruments. I have been prophesied over numerous times and most, if not all, have been relevant. At the church I attend now, Greater Faith Covenant, where we have been for some years now, I began worship leading there and have been for some time now; and my skills have really developed since then. I eventually would go on to pick up producing music, which I already have been with my songs on piano and guitar, but now with the software on a computer.
I started watching this artist named Jon Bellion on YouTube. He has a series of videos of him making his songs behind the scenes. Seeing his process and his passion and love for music inspired me as an artist and brought insight on using my gift and another level appreciation for his music – after having seen the work, design and intentionality behind them. Seeing him, I learned how to really use my gift in producing and to go with the ideas in my head that come up while producing. I became more aware of my gift and ear for music and my producing skills, as well as my ear for music, have been getting better since then and I love what I’m creating. I go on to produce and release a Christmas song called ‘It’s A Celebration’ about the birth of Christ. It became one of my favorite songs and lots of people loved it and still do. This song was released last year. I released two other songs before that as well. I had begun performing these songs and producing more.
Fast forward to October 4th, I have my first real show at my church showcasing some songs that are still in the works and ‘It’s A Celebration’. It was such a satisfying time, rehearsing with a drummer friend of mine and having the show. It’s not just the rehearsing and performing that is awesome but the fact God using me and the music to impact people for His purpose; And it’s not just a blessing to them but to me, more than anyone could know. I know God has called me to this and more. Seeing him do it, gifting me, teaching me, guiding me, growing me, and opening doors for me are truly incredible. I look forward to all He has in store for me!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I’ve had to step out of my comfort zone and learn to patiently endure. There have been times of frustration of not getting something right. Sometimes things don’t go as planned but you have to keep going. It has required and does require me to trust God in areas I’m not familiar with, to keep trying and to keep moving forward. The first song I produced on my laptop, I had the chords but I didn’t know what I was going to do to it. I didn’t know what the drums were going to be like on it or what I was going to add but I kept going and God guided me with it and gave me ideas, and it sounded good! I was surprised, haha. I don’t think it’s supposed to be a smooth road. I’m grateful that it isn’t always smooth because God uses the struggles to grow us and I definitely would not be who I am and where I am without God using the hardship. I’m thankful for it because I know I’ll be better afterward.
Please tell us about your work.
I sing, rap and play the piano, guitar, and drums. I also write, record, and produce. I am known for singing but will probably be known for singing and rapping eventually. I’ve found myself rapping more now. I specialize in singing, piano playing and producing. I am proud of the versatility of my music. I tend to create more pop songs but I like other genres as well and my music reflects that. I think what will separate me apart from others is my sound, stage presence and the message in my music.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about Atlanta is that it’s a hub for music and film. Many successful artists have come out of this city. I feel like there are so opportunities and so many people in this city who do music, that you can connect with. It’s a great place to be if you’re pursuing music.
I’m not sure what I least like about Atlanta. Some parts of Atlanta can be rough and unsafe or sketchy and I don’t like that, but every city probably has some rough areas. That may inevitable for cities. - VoyageATL
