Country musicians don't come more authentic than J Collins, who looks and sounds every bit like a country star for the 2010s. However, there's nothing pretentious or subtle about his new album "Green Means Go," and that's a major compliment.
As a singer-songwriter, J Collins is top notch, and he proves it with the terrific "Party Our Hats Off," which deserves to find airplay from radio program directors in multiple country genres. The title track "Green Means Go" is a rollicking good time that illustrates J Collins' raw vocal talent. This cut also serves as a convincing showcase of Collins' songwriting talent.
The laid-back "Dying From Livin'" is a well-produced musical gem that could also excite country radio. A perky and memorable chorus that slowly builds to a pulsating crescendo along with pleasing female guest vocals from Loriann adds to the pleasurable experience.
"Outta My League" is a classic country track about guys and girls that is highly marketable in country music. The final track "Still Young" illustrates a more traditional country sound that is authentic and entertaining.
With J Collins, what you see is what you get - except for the fact that you actually have to unwrap his CD to see an actual picture of Collins and read his heartfelt biography in the form of a letter to fans. But "Green Means Go" should be a calling card that should jump-start the career of the aspiring country musician who is a radio ready country music star in the making.
J Collins looks like a country star, sounds like a country star and writes songs about topics relevant to country men and women of today. If there's any fairness left in Nashville, this album should green-light his career to 'go.' CountryChart.com - Country Charts
J Collins has a lot of attitude in his music. One listen to his 5-track EP and you can tell that from the opening bars of “Party Our Hats Off.” The singer manages to keep up the tempo intensity throughout each cut in a way that will keep his audience entertained for sure.
However, just because a song has a lively beat doesn’t mean that the lyrics aren’t without meaning. A true example of that lies in “Dying From Livin,” which is all about taking one day at a time, and living life to the fullest. The EP is just some fun-filled music that will put a smile on your face.
However, his newest single and video (not on the EP) is something quite different. With “Time To Talk,” Collins addresses the issue of domestic abuse in strong fashion. Sometimes, people don’t want to get involved in things that don’t concern them, and sometimes that can have a deadly price. Both the single and the video portray that in a realistic manner. Welcome to the Country Music world, J Collins! I think that if you can get this song heard, you’ve got a shot at a long and fruitful career. With a versatile song selection like this, I think nothing but big things are about to happen! - Music News Nashville

He is a rising star who possesses an inherent ability to capture an audience through his powerful stage presence. Jay’s lively and engaging performances keep the crowds longing for more. The Collins’ “showmanship” has been compared to a range of legendary stars from “The Rolling Stones, to Elvis Presley”
Jay is an accomplished writer, producer, publisher and singer whose heart and soul convey the passionate entertainer that burns within him. With Collins’ self-penned début, EP behind him and his new CD “Come Get Some” available, Collins demonstrates an authentic musician that puts his spirit to rhythm, his heart to words, and his humanity to harmony. With one hand in the past and the other reaching towards the future, Collins is quickly making his mark as an artist who reaches into the heart of America.
Coming from a broken home and growing up on the streets of upstate New York, Jay quickly realized he needed an outlet. He started by putting his emotions to paper in the form of poetry, at the age of 9. While living in a home for boys at age 12, he picked up a guitar and his love affair with music began. To Jay, it seemed as if a lifetime had passed, before he was truly able to break through the walls and open the gift of melody and lyric that you hear today. Collins moved to Nashville in the fall of 2006, leaving behind family and friends, to realize his aspirations and define his future in the music industry. In spite of its own array of hardships, Jay arrived in Nashville with high hopes and full of energy. No stranger to hard work, having worked construction, truck driving, and sales, Collins quickly took his place in the Nashville scene, attending all the writer’s nights, open mics and ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors And Publishers) meetings he could – all while still working by day, as a salesman.
Success began to unfold as Collins EP “Green Means Go” was finalized between his new home in Jacksonville, Florida and the famed Omni Studio in Nashville. With the new release of “Party Our Hats Off“, opportunity was finally catching up with talent. The world began waking up to J Collins, as radio stations one by one began to play his new single, “Party Our Hats Off”. In the middle of this success, came the tragic loss of one of Jay’s friends who had been involved in an abusive relationship. Jay felt compelled to bring greater awareness to the harsh realities of “Domestic Violence.” This cause was of the utmost importance to Jay and inspired him to write the lyrics, melody, and direct the video for “Time 2 Talk”: a true and tragic story of domestic violence that ended in the death of his friend. Jay continues his success by challenging the world to “Come Get Some” his newest self penned CD, and video. As the YouTube hits continue to grow and the singles garner more airplay, Collins is pushing forward harder than ever.
