ALTON —A performance showcase and CD release party invites music industry types, fans and newcomers to show Jay Love some love at Argosy Casino.
Alton born and raised singer/songwriter Bryant “Jay Love” Lovett will perform and celebrate the release of his new CD.
The hip hop/R and B/pop artist’s showcase and CD release party starts at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at the Argosy Casino in Alton. Whether the genres of the showcase is exactly what everyone likes, everyone is invited from the general public to people in the music industry, decision makers, and business and community leaders. Tickets cost $8 in advance and $10 at the door directly from Alton-based DC Productions.
DC Productions, which is an artists management partnership, is the event’s sponsor and made up of Alton’s own Derrick Richardson and Cedric Parker, who owns and operates Park West Entertainment to promote young talent in a professional environment.
Richardson, who is a full-time Alton firefighter, volunteered his representation services to Lovett because of the artist’s determination, motivation, and professionalism.
“It took me two years to find the right artist to get behind,” Richardson said.
Jay Love is an American recording artist. Growing up in Alton, he was involved in his church choir, several local talent shows and, in the early 2000s, with his group the “Lovett Boyz.” In 2013, Jay Love released his first solo debut mixtape, “Heartbreak Hotel,” to little buzz. But his first EP, “Finally,” released the following year, pushed him to the top as “Finally” peaked on the popular mixtape site DatPiff.com with more than 5,000 downloads.
The release of “Finally” gained the attention of some of the industry’s top songwriters and producers, such as Eric Bellinger responsible for Chris Brown’s “Fine China” and Justin Bieber’s “Thought Of You”; up and coming songwriter and artist Verse Simmonds, with Def Jam; and, producer John “SK” McGee, who has worked with Trey Songz and R.Kell. Jay Love believes he has a gem with “Finally,” so went for “Finally Reloaded,” which is in the works. With the release of his new single “Homies” racking up almost 1,000 plays in its first 24 hours, peaking atop Soundcloud’s “Most Played” charts, Jay Love is industry ready, he said.
The single “Fresh Air,” from the “Finally” EP, gained the attention of St.Louis’ Hot104.1 FM on its #STLhomejams.

ALTON — From L.A. to New York City, Jay Love a k a Bryant Lovett made a mark that is only getting broader and bolder with his soulful music.
The 2005 Alton High School graduate and accomplished musician, who adopted the moniker Jay Love in the tradition of many modern artists, keeps his music real with lyrics about everyday issues of life, love and legacy, which is a major part of his world with his wife Andrea, their four children, extended family and friends in Alton, where Lovett lives. He’s working on his current project and second album, “Love Triangle,” which will be available as a complete work and on iTunes with a May or June release.
“It’s based on love in all aspects — love, losing, but mostly about love,” said Lovett, 28, in an exclusive interview with the Telegraph. “I and my manager went hand-in-hand picking out the songs on the album. I’ve been traveling a lot between here and New York, and most recently to L.A., on a music publishing deal and the new project.”
Lovett released his first CD, “Finally Reloaded,” last summer when he held the release party at Argosy Casino’s Music Hall in Alton.
Sony ATV Music LLC recording engineer Eddie Timmons and Jay Love’s managers Jonathan Charles, who he described as “just a regular guy” and producer Cedric Parker, who is president and chief executive officer of Alton-based Parkwest Entertainment, work behind the scenes with Lovett, who writes and performs his original music. He has created music since he was a boy in the church choir and chose the name Jay Love as an ode to his former rap group, The Lovett Boys, with whom he performed from the late 1990s to the early 2000s.
“I’ve always had a passion for singing and songwriting,” Lovett said. “Once the group disbanded, what better time to branch out on my own. I was never really into the rap thing because I was a singer, so it was an opportunity to pursue my untapped ability.”
The multi-talented Lovett’s abilities are becoming more and more clear each day.
Just three weeks ago, Lovett went to Los Angeles to meet with Warner Music Group/Atlantic Records’ executives Askia Fountain and Latoya Lee, in the industry giant’s Artists and Repertoire department.
“They loved every bit of what they heard and want me to do a little more work for them,” Lovett recalled about the trip’s first big meeting. “They are looking for consistency and longevity.”
The next day in L.A., Lovett met with Artist Publishing Group (APG), which is a music publishing company that works hand-in-hand with Atlantic Records, but also other record labels, such as Sony and Epic. Artist Publishing Group describes itself as a groundbreaking music publishing company that is administered by Warner/Chappell, one of the leading music publishing companies in the world. APG’s goal is to further the careers of the next generation of superstar songwriters, producers and musicians.
APG creates opportunities for placing songs and tracks with proven great artists and collaborators. APG does its best to secure its writers’ work in television, film, commercials, video games and promotions, while striving to market its writers to the industry and their works to the world.
“I met with (APG President) Ben Maddahi and (Atlantic Records/APG Artists and Repertoire) David Phung. We are currently working together to publish my first major songwriting placement,” Lovett said.
He wrote a song called “Just Friends,” produced by The Featherstones, a record production and songwriting team from Baltimore, Md., made up of Justin, Christopher, William and Matthew Featherstone. As a family of musicians, they thrive and focus on creating good music by showing true musicianship. The Featherstones recently produced for Trey Songz, Kid Ink, August Alsina and Wiz Khalifa.
Lovett also writes songs for other aspiring artists, including up-and-coming female singer Tniyah from Clifton, N.J., who can be heard in one of Jay Love’s latest singles, “Better,” in combination with Lovett’s smooth, strong, melodic voice.
“So, 2015 is going to be a huge year for me on the songwriting end,” Lovett noted.
This year Lovett also will see the launch of www.jaylovemusic.com where Jay Love’s merchandise and music will be available for purchase and also where fans can keep up with him, and his process, on a day-to-day basis.
Lovett works full time in information technology but made sure to seriously pursue his passion since the days of The Lovett Boys.
“I started to think outside the box and reach masses of people,” he said about using social media, such as SoundCloud and YouTube, to get his music heard. “I love Alton but I want to reach outside the region.”
Music-types noticed after Jay Love began showing up on the Web.
“I got national attention and it’s still growing,” he said. “It’s mind blowing. Growing up here, you don’t see how it can work because it’s a small city. It wasn’t until I was in L.A. and New York City that I got a chance to see how it can work. There’s so much opportunity in this world. Sell your product until you get out there.”
He received his first invite to big music industry cities a little more than a year ago. Grammy-nominated songwriter, Eric Bellinger, who received the nod for Best R&B Song, first reached out to Lovett, with whom he connected and began a mentorship. Lovett wants to do the same for others who have a dream like his.
“I really want to show children — not just my own — they can achieve their dreams. They can get to a place where their dreams aren’t far-fetched,” Lovett said also referring to his children: daughter Payton, 5, and sons Kameron, 4, Kayden, 3, and Kobe, 1, who all regularly visit Lovett in his Alton studio.
“Even if I go outside Alton, I can bring it back,” he said.
Lovett relies on Alton friends and colleagues as well, such as his manager Parker.
“Cedric is my greatest advisor. He’s busy in the community, a family man. He’s an advisor,” Lovett said.
So far Jay Love’s “Finally Reloaded” has done very well, exceeding his expectations.
“I hear from people in Germany, France — I didn’t know people outside the U.S. listened to American music that much,” Lovett said.”I’m just a regular working guy trying to live my dream. It’s wild.”
