For moments where you’ve accidentally joined a love triangle. Opening up with a swinging ambient beat, Jada Lee suspends us right in the middle of a chaotic affair in her new R&B single “Star67.” The track opens up with the tense lines, “Last night was an accident / Last night there was an incident” where Jada starts recounting an unintentional hookup with a committed man. It is a brazen ballad that is flooded with the vulnerability and confusion of being the other woman. Shifting from lo-fi pop to R&B, Jada sings with fire and transparency where she takes us through the self-inflicted burn in the aftermath of the affair. In spite of the heavy-hearted guilt, the track exudes an air of seduction that is galvanizing to a degree. “Calling me, stressing me / Baby, you need to talk to your man” chants Jada. Originally from Maryland, Jada developed her passion for music at a young age by participating in choirs, college radio and opening up for Grammy-nominated artst Jazmine Sullivan at a Gala event. She debuted her EP back in July 2017 and has released numerous singles since then. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. - Aupium
Vibrant and super talented breakthrough artist Jada Lee has just released her new debut single called “Star 67” and now that it has hit the airwaves….the sky is the limit. She has the look, the voice, the talent and the attitude to take this new single straight to the top.
Sultry pop and 90’s groove make an excellent mix for Jada and her popularity is growing by leaps and bounds. Her single “Star 67” accentuates her sultry vocals and her performance has just the right amount of passion to bring the listener in to the song and the story within it.
Music has always been part of Jada’s life. She grew up singing in church, was part of the All-Shore and All-State choirs during middle and high school and was named #3 in the state of Maryland. During high school she participated in a local show called Rock and Roll Revival and it was here that she firmly accepted her desire to become a recording artist.
She graduated from school with a high honors and attended Temple University where she earned a BA in Media Studies and Production. This equipped her not only in the art of singing but so she could mix and master her own music. She worked as a co-host for a college radio Iheart Radio show and then created her own Youtube Channel. Her determination and spirit would not be broken.
After opening for Grammy nominated artist Jazmine Sullivan in 2016 at a Gala event she realized her own potential toward what opportunities could lay ahead for her. Also in 2016, she wrote, recorded, mastered and mixed, her first single. After that she released two EP’s…”Emotions and LoveLust” and numerous singles over the last couple of years and is sure to be attracting some national attention as this new single hits the airwaves followed by the hot reviews.
Sass and ba-zing play a part in the energetic personality of this young women who’s making a path in the industry for her music. She’s made a nice following for herself over the last few years and with this kind of fresh and exciting sound and talent there’s a lot more room for her to broaden her horizons.Brave and beautiful she welcomes you in to her world with hot vocals, smooth and delicious lyrics and a song full of movement. She reminds me a bit of Beyonce and a has a splash of Aaliyah in there. I think it’s presentation of the lyrics and the smooth, warm expression in her voice. Excellent.
As she moves through the range of highs and lows in her vocals you can hear that she is right on target, right on key, her vocals as true on target. I loved the echo in the instrumentation on “Star 67” in added to the depth of the song. Clear and precise presentation. Superb.
Jada is making a strong career for herself in the industry and she’s no rookie even though she’s young. Don’t let the age fool you. She’s business savy, a major talent and she has the brains and know how to put her career in over drive.
This single would place in the category or genre of Pop with a solid injection of Soul and R&B. It is about a love triangle where she finds herself as the other woman and she’s having none of it. The emotion, and texture of the lyrics and the volume of intensity Jada applies to the song makes it a number hit in my book. - Nashville Music Guide
Jada Lee isn’t exactly new She’s gained a reasonable following on YouTube in recent years for doing covers of famous hip hop and R&B tracks with her extraordinary voice. She’s also had a number of singles and two EPs released in the past two years. It’s actually surprising that she’s not better known in the EDM scene, as her voice is quite versatile and the production in many of her tracks is a slowed down form of trap with lots of electronic flourishes.
Lee’s two most recent tracks also have this chill, flowing style which will remind a lot of both rave music and R&B fans of acts from the 90s like SVW, Jade and even the incomparable Aaliyah. That said, tracks like “Enough” and “Karma” on her 2017 Emotions EP could easily fit in with modern EDM bass music and would also remix easily, especially with liquid drum and bass. Suffice it to say that while solidly in the R&B camp, Jada Lee’s sound ventures into other genres and could easily do more with EDM.
This year’s Lovelust is a little more do-wop flavored, but Lee’s most recent two tracks “Star67” and “No Feelings,” produced by The Beat Plug and 30 Hertz, contain that same smooth R&B and relatable lyrical content that make them very pop-friendly. “Star67” has a clear trap beat and could easily be sped up or mixed into a dancefloor break track. “No Feelings” is also quite snare-heavy but a little more smooth and slow. Both tracks have a groove that it would be great to see back in R&B and in more funky permutations of EDM.
Jada Lee clearly has a lot of talent and her YouTube videos are a lot of fun. She also works with a lot of great producers already so it’s only a matter of time before she’s snapped up by pop and EDM producers. Keep an eye out and in the meantime enjoy her ultra-smooth repertoire on Soundcloud. - Your EDM
