"Jackson's 'Lost Cause'"

Jackson Grist is a man like his music, a mellow bluesy fellow with a voice that is just subtle enough to make you sit up and pay attention to what he’s saying. With a melancholy air and a facade that would be comfortable on a lumberjack he pours out his woes and lets you know that he gets it….or perhaps that you get him. Every song is personal, a piece of Jackson’s story that he is sharing with the listeners, a story that is worth hearing more than once.

Jackson’s Lost Cause came into being about four years ago after he began to look at music as more than a hobby, an impressive hobby including the guitar, mandolin, piano, lap steel, and drums as well as vocals. Grist claims no particular preference in musical style but says that Lost Cause started as a folk project that soon began to develop blues, jazz and rock undertones. Each of his songs has a different sound but possesses a stylistic continuity nonetheless. He is normally a one man gig, with no permanent members save for a few local floaters and a recording band in San Antonio.

He loves being hands on in the creative process, both writing the music and personally laying down each instrument in the studio. He cares a lot for the integrity and impact of his music and would much rather leave an instrument out of a live performance altogether instead of having a computer supply the missing piece, feeling that it greatly affects the impact on those hearing it. His dedication to the music and his talent has put him in the number one spot on the charts for local blues musicians. Curious? Then check him out live at the Pine Box on Thursday 9-8-11 and see just how much you’ll want to join his cause yourself.

Jackson has an EP to be released this month and a full album to be out in early 2012. His music can be found on Reverbnation, Facebook, Myspace and will soon be on Bandcamp.

Bio

Jackson's Lost Cause began many years ago as a concept in the mind of one Jackson Grist with the sole purpose or preforming and creating a musical style to suit his own taste. Fortunately it seems that the music created by and performed by jackson's lost cause has found a place in the hearts of many people, some of them not even blood related. The music of JLC is predominately guitar combined with vocals, with occasional accompaniment of other folk and contemporary instrumentation.
The line up of JLC consists of Jackson Grist(songwriter)- lead vocals, lead guitar, occasional bass guitar, sometimes keyboard, and frequent on-stage random muttering. There have been contributions to the sound of JLC by many different instrumentalists, some of them repeatedly. The overall line up of JLC continues to contain Jackson Grist often solo, often with a revolving crew of various backup musicians. All are talented and most are inspired.
When going to a JLC concert one should expect to see Jackson Grist on stage playing guitar and singing predominately self written songs. Occasionally Jackson will be joined by one or more afore mentioned various instrumentalists.
Even if a concert-goer has no idea what to expect when attending a JLC show we believe that they will walk away glad that they came. The music of JLC is always honest and heartfelt, even while having while having a little fun on stage.
The music of JLC is influenced by Folk musicians such as Joe Purdy, Bob Dylan, and Bon Iver ;the jazz stylings of Les Paul and Pat Matheny; bluesy tones of Van Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn; while maintaining a finger on the pulse of the contemporary trends, with out compromising personal taste. The main route of the writing in JLC music IS the personal taste and enjoyment of Jackson Grist.
