Hey there, music lovers! Ever stumbled upon a song that just clicks with you the moment it hits your ears? Well, that’s exactly what happened to us with “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” by J0VANNA. It’s not just any pop song; it’s a burst of energy, a cry for freedom, and a big hug saying, “I got you,” all rolled into one. J0VANNA, an artist who mixes fun with introspection, has dropped this track, and let me tell you, it’s something.
Now, why are we, yapping about this song? Because it’s not just music, it’s a story, an experience, something that got us thinking and, yes, feeling a bit more empowered. And in our book, anything that makes you feel stronger deserves a shout-out.
So, what makes “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” stand out in the sea of new releases? Stick around, and let’s dive into the lyrics, the beats, and the very essence that makes this song a must-hear.
Verse by Verse Analysis
Taking a deeper look at the essence of “BOYS AIN’T SH!T,” J0VANNA strikes chords that resonate far beyond the surface level of pop music. The lyrics weave a tale of realization and reflection, touching on themes that hit close to the bone for many.
J0VANNA starts with a punch, questioning the integrity of promises made, symbolized by the ‘pinky promises’ we often regard as sacred in our youth. She then delves into the self-compromise that too many know all too well – adjusting one’s value to fit into someone else’s checkboxes. It’s a raw and relatable confrontation with the disappointments that come from unfulfilled commitments and one-sided sacrifices.
The chorus becomes an anthem, a declaration of independence from the half-hearted assurances and surface-level attractions that can entangle us. The repetition of “Boys ain’t shit” isn’t just a refrain; it’s a mantra for self-worth, an incantation to break the spell of undeserving affections.
In the bridge, J0VANNA questions the reason behind staying in a situation that doesn’t serve one’s heart or soul, highlighting the regret that inevitably follows if one doesn’t heed the red flags.
Through the lyrics, J0VANNA takes us on a journey of empowerment, each line peeling back another layer of the facade often presented in toxic relationships.
“BOYS AIN’T SH!T” isn’t just about the boys, it’s about recognizing the games and choosing not to play. It’s about understanding one’s value and refusing to settle for anything less than what one truly deserves.

Musical Composition
Moving on from the lyrical deep dive, the musical arrangement of “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” deserves the spotlight too. Now, We’ve tapped our toes to countless tracks over the years, but the beats per minute on this one? They’ve got that just-right groove that’s enough to pump you up without tipping over into that manic territory.
J0VANNA’s choice of instruments isn’t just a haphazard pick from the pop playbook. Nope, there’s a meticulous hand at play here, blending synth vibes with a rhythm that’s all snap and no crackle. It’s like a sonic recipe for empowerment: take one part catchy melody, a dash of dark pop’s moody bass, and top it off with a sprinkle of indie spice. Voilà! A track that serves up the feels with every note.
Now, some might say, “Isn’t this just another pop song?” And to that, We’d say, listen closer. There’s a craft here that’s about as subtle as a wink from a secret admirer. It’s in the layering, the build-up to the chorus, and that drop that hits you right when you need it. It’s a musical nod to anyone who’s ever said goodbye to bad news dressed in boyfriend jeans.
You see, what J0VANNA’s cooked up here isn’t your run-of-the-mill track—it’s a finely-tuned anthem that’s been engineered to resonate with the heart and not just the charts.
Musical Composition
Imagine “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” is a super cool picture made of sounds. J0VANNA made this picture with a lot of thought, like you would build something awesome with Legos.
The song isn’t just catchy, it’s like a puzzle where every piece (the beat, the notes, the words) fits together perfectly to tell a story. It’s like J0VANNA is using the music to make you feel the same way the words say! It’s super creative and goes straight to your heart and brain, not just your ears!
J0VANNA’s music has a special message. She doesn’t just sing her songs, she makes strong statements with them! Her words are about being proud of who you are and not letting people fake being your friend.
A lot of people can relate to that feeling. J0VANNA doesn’t just tell her own story, she makes you think about your own experiences too.
That’s why her song feels like it’s just for you, like your own personal power song!
This song resonates, and it does so by threading the needle perfectly between commercial viability and artistic authenticity. It’s a balance that many artists strive for, and J0VANNA hits the mark with a finesse that’s all her own. - The Lions Ground Entertainment Group
The South Florida-based singer and songwriter J0VANNA is back again with brand new music, her first single since last year’s lovely “Stupid Face“. On her latest work, aptly titled “BOYS AIN’T SH!T”, J0VANNA once again goes in newer directions with the production by putting a (small) distance between herself and the indie pop-infused electronics of the past. “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” goes hard on the R&B front, establishing J0VANNA as a powerful force to be reckoned with.
She sounds incredibly mature on this track, and the somewhat minimalist production works very, very well with her voice. The SZA influences are more apparent than ever, and J0VANNA’s got the voice to back that up beautifully. In fact, her vocals never sounded better: crisp and sharp, strong and confident as she matches the tone set by the production really nicely and elevates the whole track to another level. The lyrical content talks about how boys will always let you down, raising red flags and sounding like a valuable piece of advice from your best friend after you told her that ‘he’s different this time, he’s changed’. No, he isn’t and he didn’t. J0VANNA knows that.
There is a certain darkness to her music this time, one that hasn’t shown up yet, and she makes everything flow and slide effortlessly all the way. She sounds angrier than before, also, like she’s really fed up with these types of situations – and aren’t we all? On “BOYS AIN’T SH!T”, J0VANNA really changed the focus of her usual love-inspired lyrics and music to something that feels darker, more real and way more mature. The way she goes really high with her voice is truly something else; like she can’t stop the flow because all of this was clogged at the back of her throat for so long she just needs to let it out.
Her new single manages to take all that frustration that comes from liking men into self-empowerment and self-worth like very other few tracks even attempted to. ““BOYS AIN’T SH!T” is more than a song—it’s a movement. Inspired by true stories of resilience, this single serves as an anthem for anyone who’s ever felt overlooked or undervalued“, J0VANNA says about the track. “In creating this song, I aimed to echo the voices of the undervalued, making a statement about knowing your worth and demanding the respect you deserve“, she perfectly concludes.
By creating a song that resonates with people in such an intimate and powerful way, J0VANNA really feels like a singer that is more than ready to be seen and heard. “As I step into this new chapter, “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” represents a pivotal point in my musical journey, showcasing my evolution as an artist committed to making music that resonates on a deeper level. I believe this single will not only captivate your audience but also spark conversations about empowerment, resilience, and the importance of self-realization in the indie Pop/R&B music scene“, she says and she’s oh so right.
After all, anger and frustration towards men really is the glue that holds society together, and this song expresses all of this immaculately. As she concludes the song with the simple line ‘don’t confuse a man’s love with a boy’s game‘, I find myself more than ready for this new Era of J0VANNA’s music, sign me up.
@XJ0VANNAMUSICX’s latest “BOYS AIN’T SH!T” is an anthem of self-worth and self-realization.

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful J0VANNA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
J0VANNA, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I try to practice self-care as much as I can even though it isn’t easy and requires a lot of time and effort. especially with my busy schedule. But whether it’s going out for a walk, meditating for a few minutes, or getting a mani-pedi, I always try to find some “me-time” in my schedule. I also believe it is key to try to get out of my comfort zone. In the last few months of 2023, I experimented with my hair color: peach, pink, and then a mermaid look with purple roots, pink midsections, and peach ends, followed by full purple, and then blue. It was a fun thing to do but it was quite difficult at times. But ultimately it made me feel better about my appearance, which was a nice confidence booster.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So, I’m a Pop/R&B Singer-Songwriter from South Florida. I started my music career at the age of 15, performing with a rock band at local venues. By the age of 18, I began pursuing a solo career. I also went to Berklee College of Music in order to deepen my understanding of the music industry. In May 2023, I graduated with a degree in Music Business. Currently, I have four songs released: “Brain On Fire,” “TwentyOne,” “Stupid Face,” and “BOYS AIN’T SH!T.” Notably, “TwentyOne” was featured on two prominent Spotify Editorial playlists, “Viral Hits” with 3M saves and “Hit Italiane” with 440K saves. Last month, I released my 4th single, “BOYS AIN’T SH!T,” which deals with the dynamics of toxic relationships. The goal is to provide a narrative of empowerment, where the girl recognizes her worth and walks away. It’s available on all major streaming platforms! It is a Dark Pop/ALT R&B anthem for anyone. It doesn’t matter what gender you are! I would love for you to give it a listen!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I look back, I want to say that my knowledge of the music industry, my passion, and my determination have had the most impact on my journey. At an early age, I was exposed to many opportunities to learn the craft. It has helped me navigate the industry more effectively and make more informed decisions about my career. Having these qualities keeps me going. I know that wanting to be a part of this industry is not easy. But my passion and determination drive me to continue working hard. And eventually, I hope to establish a little place for myself and my music.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I try to take time for myself. That may mean stopping what I am doing and stepping outside because I feel the most serene when I close my eyes and let myself embrace the world around me. Sometimes I tell myself that it’s okay to relax and not do anything for a day. When I need to give myself a little more reassurance, I sometimes say a simple mantra to make myself feel grounded and remind myself that the feeling of being overwhelmed will pass.

We’re very pleased to report that the lovely and talented singer and songwriter J0VANNA is back with her third single, “Stupid Face”. The South Florida-based artist continues to play with her blend of indie pop and R&B, adding even more swagger and soul to her vocals this time.
Her first new single since 2021’s “TwentyOne“, this time around J0VANNA goes all in with a lighthearted, fun, and silly song about being in love. “I wanted this song to be completely different from the other two singles I’ve released”, the artist herself says about the new music. “If you have that someone who you can be silly with, then hopefully you can relate to this song”, she concludes.
This is the best way to describe “Stupid Face”, it’s an honest song about feeling so comfortable around someone that you don’t mind making a fool of yourself in front of them – but intimately and lovingly. There’s no secondhand embarrassment when we listen to it, just a big grin that can’t help but creep its way into your face.
“Stupid Face” stands on its own amongst this girl’s short but stellar discography so far exactly because of said silliness. Her debut single “Brain On Fire” was a gorgeous track written about her struggles with OCD, pain, and anxiety. “TwentyOne” was about feeling the weight of getting older and sensing the time passing by around you. But “Stupid Face”, is just about having fun. The lightness of it all translates to the music itself as well, having once again been produced by Terrence Rolle and mastered by Dave Kutch, the production on “Stupid Face” takes the sounds explored by J0VANNA on “TwentyOne” and broadens them even further – and it sounds so good!
‘Woke up this morning with a smile upon my face, the thought of you always makes my day‘ are the opening lines to the song. Simple, but nonetheless effective. J0VANNA has already shown us that experiencing feelings to their fullest extent and taking us along for the ride is one of her strengths as a lyricist, and now she delivers a love song like few others. There’s a sense of purity around it, when she sings ‘I’ll do anything for that stupid face’, there’s probably someone who comes to your mind when you listen to it – so you know exactly what she means, and you can’t help but smile. That’s love. And she nails it!
If you enjoyed J0VANNA’s music and would like to stay updated, be sure to check out and follow her Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tiktok accounts. To listen to her music, you can head over to her Apple Music and Spotify profile, Soundcloud, Youtube channel, or you can purchase their music at Bandcamp.

his track is what we would define as a ‘welcome comeback’. You see, you might recall hearing about J0VANNA first in 2021, when the Florida-based artist first debuted. Showcasing a knack for modern pop arrangements and introspective lyricism, it was clear how the young talent had tremendous potential in her artistry. Lucky for us, we are able to write about J0VANNA again, having recently returned to the music scene after a hiatus lasting the best part of two years.
‘Stupid Face’ is her latest effort. In it, the listener will notice the growth and evolution that J0VANNA endured, consolidating her songwriting prowess and vocal musicianship. The single is exactly that, a catchy, melodious and relatable pop banger, contrasting a pensive and witty instrumental with less serious lyrics. Quite an eclectic mix, especially during the bridge section of the song, where we can admire the range and dynamism of J0VANNA’s hypnotizing vocal tone.
Lyrically, ‘Stupid Face’ explores the relationship between love, simplicity and authenticity. When finding a true soulmate, we can afford to be silly with each other – that’s one of the most beautiful and rewarding features of a relationship. As J0VANNA explains: “I wanted this song to be completely different from the other two singles I’ve released. I wanted it to be quirky and light-hearted, and one that can make you smile or laugh when you listen to it. If you have that someone who you can be silly with, then hopefully you can relate to this song."

Viewing Stupid Face as well as your previous works, it is clear to see that you are a talented artist mastering multiple genres and vibes. What genre has been your favorite to create, and what would you like to tackle next?
J0VANNA: Thank you so much for having me again! I just wanted to share that R&B is hands down my favorite genre to create. The smooth grooves, soulful melodies, and powerful vocals just hit differently, you know? But I'm not content to just stick with what I know. I'm ready to level up and dive headfirst into the world of Soul music. I'm excited to explore the diverse sounds and styles of this genre and see how I can incorporate them into my own creative process. Who knows what kind of magic will happen when R&B and Soul collide!
As a modern singer-songwriter, what drew you to start making music, and what motivates you to continue?
J0VANNA: I've been writing music for as long as I can remember, but I made the decision to turn it into a profession when I was 15. It hit me that I wanted to use my music to help others feel understood and less alone. I aim to write songs that people can relate to and that make them feel seen. Deep down, I knew that my true calling was to inspire others through my music. That's what keeps me going - the motivation to touch people's souls with my lyrics and make a difference in their lives.
love the style of your cover art! What inspired you to create such a unique style?
J0VANNA: So, Pinterest was my muse for this cover art! One day, I stumbled upon this image that was soooo cool - it had this vintage but whimsical vibe that I was really feeling. I knew right away that it was perfect for my cover art. I decided to take matters into my own hands and create something inspired by that image. I did my best to replicate it, but of course, I had to add my own twist to make it truly mine.
Congratulations on being the #1 artist for 8 adoring fans in 2022 on Spotify! What impact do you hope to make on fans with your music now and forever?
JOVANNA: My hope is that my music can reach those who need to hear that they're not alone. I want to keep being a voice for people who feel like they don't have one. It's important to me that my music can make an impact now and forever. I'm all about spreading love, positivity, and inspiration through my lyrics.
You’ve had Stupid Face mastered by Grammy-nominated Dave Kutch, what was the experience working with him like?
J0VANNA: I swear, the guy has a real gift when it comes to mastering. It's seriously impressive to watch him work. I love seeing his process, and honestly, I'm crossing my fingers that we get to keep working together. There's just something about his energy and the way he approaches things that really resonates with me. I feel like we make a great team and can accomplish some really amazing things together.
You have three hit singles released so far! What new ventures do you have planned for your music career in the near future?
JOVANNA: Honestly, I'm just focused on keeping the momentum going and putting out more music. My ultimate goal is to release an EP that really captures my sound and style. Of course, I want to keep gaining new fans and growing my audience, but I'm also really excited about the idea of going on a mini-tour. I just feel like there's nothing quite like the energy of a live show, you know? I want to connect with my fans in person and bring the music to life in a whole new way.
Interviewed By Sophia E. Henry - Pop Passion Music Blog
“Brain on Fire,” the latest single from up-and-coming talent JOVANNA, is a scorching portrayal of mental disorder. The songwriter takes us on a journey that explores the darkest depths of the mind, as well as the journey to healing that is so important in today’s world.
Starting off with a steady stomping rhythm backed by a wistful keyboard motif and ethereal atmospherics, the tension builds as her vocals begin painting the landscape of the song. The intensity ebbs and flows throughout the song, weaving in and out of the lyrics, and reflecting the anxiety of a troubled mind in raw and authentic ways. The lyrics themselves further add to this, as they evoke the pure emotions which arise throughout the fight with and against it.
The song effects a fragile balance between beauty and pain, making it feel like an involuntary balancing act. It is songs like these that will help shed light on the insidious nature of mental illness and how important it is to provide sufferers with a safe space to express and work though the difficult trials that they endure.
Out now on all major streaming platforms, don’t miss out on this exciting release and grab it for yourself ASAP!

Our song of the day brings us to Miami to meet a young singer-songwriter: J0VANNA.
We discovered her latest delivery, a lyric video for “TwentyOne”, and her sensual beautiful voice caught our attention from the first notes.
The artist tells the story of growing up and the possibility to start a new life, through catchy electro-pop sonorities.
The subtle touch of alternative R’N’B also highlights the artist’s talent and versatility. - THE FURTHER
Coming in from Miami, FL, the emerging R&B artist and singer-songwriter J0VANNA makes an instant connection with listeners through her vulnerable debut single, "Brain on Fire."
"Music is a place for self-expression without feeling the fear of judgment," states J0VANNA, as she concludes that truth and honesty through music heal the soul and stimulates the mind. Currently working on an untitled EP, J0VANNA hopes to express the same raw emotion and authenticity through the project as she does on her debut single, "Brain on Fire."
Co-produced and mixed by Terrence Rolle (Pharrell) and mastered by Grammy-nominated mastering engineer Dave Kutch, J0VANNA's debut single "Brain on Fire" takes us through quite the emotional scene. The single shines a light on mental illness and takes listeners on a vulnerable journey through J0VANNA's struggles while dealing with OCD and anxiety. "Putting the lyrics on paper was part of my healing process," she mentions.
Listening to "Brain on Fire," a haunting and melancholy piano melody opens the piece alongside down-tempo and minimal drum patterns. Once J0VANNA begins singing her emotional message of being held captive by her inner demons and not letting anyone notice, the surrounding instrumentals start to swell with repetitive and crisp drum breaks and a powerful build-up that takes the song to the climax.
As the exhilarating beat drops with deep bass-like synths and J0VANNA's soulful vocal delivery, we honestly did not expect the electronic incorporation within this piece, as it's so pure and raw in emotion that most artists wouldn't let the surrounding sonics overpower their performance. Yet, J0VANNA matches the sonics' power and energy and belts her vocals for the world to hear.
Form a deeper connection with the emerging singer-songwriter J0VANNA as she powerfully expresses her inner turmoil through a striking debut single, "Brain on Fire," available on all digital streaming platforms.
Congratulations on the release of your debut single, "Brain on Fire." Why did you choose to release this single in particular as your debut?
Thank you so much! I am so excited about the release of my debut single. This song has a very special place in my heart. I chose to release this single in particular as my debut because I wanted to introduce myself to the world as I am. I am imperfect. I struggle with OCD and major anxiety at times and I wanted to be open and honest about the struggles that I have gone through to get here. Writing the song and putting it out there has been a liberating experience because I don’t have to keep it to myself anymore. As I say in the song, I “cannot hide my truth anymore.” Mental health is an issue we should all be able to discuss without fearing judgment or the stigma that has been unfortunately associated with mental illness.
Seeing as "Brain on Fire" covers rather vulnerable and emotional themes of mental illness, did you find it challenging to summon the correct lyrics for how you feel?
Yes. It definitely was challenging finding the right words to tell my story. I spent many weeks in my bedroom and in my car writing and then rewriting the lyrics. At times, it was painful to write the words on paper. I also wanted to make sure that I told my story truthfully and in a relatable way because I know that I am not the only one who’s gone through this. If I can help one person with my song, then the song will serve its purpose and that would make me beyond happy.
What was it like working with Terrence Rolle and Dave Kutch when formulating the sonics for your single "Brain on Fire?"
Meeting and working with Terrence has been a real blessing. He’s a kind spirit and I consider him as my big brother. He really connected with my vision of the song and made it a reality. The lyrics are emotionally charged and so I needed a musical arrangement that could convey how I felt through my struggles, from the period of numbness and then pain, and he was able to convey that. Having Dave Kutch master the track was the icing on the cake.
Should we expect your forthcoming EP to feature the single "Brain on Fire?" How does the rest of the project coincide with the single's theme?
My forthcoming EP will definitely feature Brain on Fire. The theme of the EP will be life’s elements. Brain on Fire represents fire, which is symbolic of the pain and strong emotions of my experience. I am now writing about the elements of water, air, and earth, what they represent, and their connection with our human experiences.
What would you like listeners to know about you and the music that you create?
I am just a regular girl who is passionate about music. I also love nature and coffee and being barefoot, because I love to feel the earth beneath my feet. I sometimes sing with my eyes closed because I like to feel every note when I sing. As for my music, it will always be as authentic and as real as possible. - Buzz Music
With her debut single ‘Brain on Fire’, J0VANNA used raw lyrics and powerful music to help listeners heal. With her second release ‘TwentyOne’, she brings a retro pop tone to our ears as she connects with anyone who is not ready for the next chapter in their life. Packed with an energetic vibe, the single draws on the uncertainty she felt when faced with the next steps in adult life.
Written on her 21st birthday, the song captures the way most people still feel too young to take on the challenges that they face. Channeling our inner children, the track helps you capture that energy while acknowledging the unwillingness many have to move on to the next chapter of life. While touching on not wanting to move forward, J0VANNA tempers this with the knowledge that this is only delaying the next steps.
TwentyOne’ ticks open before warping into some light retro synth tones. There is a deep beat that pulses through your chest while the synths jump off it. The light keys lap in the higher levels of the track adding a glitter youthful feeling to the single. The music is an interesting mixture of pure pop sensibilities and the washing softness of dream-pop. Through all of this, that deep beat keeps pulling your forward through the soundscape. There is a slight party vibe to the music that makes you think of a night out or a party with friends.
J0VANNA’s vocals bring a smooth slide of RnB to the track that merges perfectly with the pop sound of the music. While the music is upbeat and lively, the vocals have a slightly sombre feeling. The relatable uncertainty that is woven into her performance is amazing. This intertwines with the reluctance of wanting to move on from twenty and accept the responsibilities that come with ageing. It is a really engaging track that perfectly captures a moment of unease that many have gone through.
J0VANNA fills you with smooth pop sensibilities wrapped around RnB vocals that delve into not wanting to become an adult in ‘TwentyOne’. The party vibe of the melody brings a youthful edge to the track while her vocals wash over you with the unease of the responsibilities that are coming. A delightfully authentic single, it is one that so many will be able to relate to.

We had the good fortune of connecting with J0VANNA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J0VANNA, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson I’ve learned from my music career is to never settle for less and to take everything with a grain of salt because the path chosen isn’t easy. People can be critical and always have something to say, especially when they believe they are trying to help. I just believe it’s good to try to develop a thick skin, to take notice (but not dwell on it), and move on. Making yourself happy is more important than making others happy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What separates me from others is that I am not afraid to share my struggles through music. I know that my own and other people’s life experiences inspire me to write. I feel empowered to talk about things to which others can relate, and if I can help others in the process, that is a win/win! I am most proud of my song “Brain On Fire,” which came from a very dark time in my life. This song was written in my bedroom during a period of severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorder. At that time, I really didn’t know what was going on with me. I had these repetitive and irrational thoughts that wouldn’t go away. Eventually, I got help, but it was very difficult for me. I was worried about what people would think of me. But I realize now that talking about it has been part of my healing process. This has led me to be freer with what I write in my music and to allow others to get to know this raw side of me. It wasn’t easy. There were times when I wanted to give up on myself when I doubted my artistry and thought I wasn’t good enough for this industry. But I’ve learned to overcome it by being patient with myself because music doesn’t write itself. If I can’t think of anything, I’ll have to set it aside and not force it because something will eventually spark my creativity. The world should know that I’m just a girl following her true passions, and no one will ever stop me from doing so. That I am ready to make more music and have it heard!
et’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow! I’ve got so many ideas! First and foremost, I would take them to a coffee shop (BECAUSE WHY NOT?!). Panther Coffee, one of my favorite places, offers a wide range of coffee options, including lattes and mochas! They also have a lovely little patio where you can sit and chat. Then I’d take them to Wynwood Walls to see the colorful murals that make it ‘Wynwood,’ as well as the mini museums like ‘The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse’ and ‘Nadar Museum.’ And if we get tired and hungry, we can go to Joey’s for delicious Italian dishes or 1-800-LUCKY for a variety of Asian food markets with indoor or outdoor seating and live music! If we’re still hungry, we can stop by the Salty Donut for a dozen of their handmade donuts or Morelia’s Gourmet Paletas! I think I’ve made myself really hungry.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mom and Dad are two people to whom I would like to dedicate my shoutout. They are the ones who have given up so much for me to be able to pursue my music career. They are as incredibly passionate about my career as I am! They are my biggest supporters, and I’m grateful for all of the times my Dad found opportunities for me to sing at local venues, and for all of the times, my Mom took me to music industry conventions and master classes so I could learn more about the ever-changing music industry and network with like-minded people who are also seeking to make a career in music.

We had the good fortune of connecting with J0VANNA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi J0VANNA, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Being a singer-songwriter has honestly been a wild ride. It’s not as easy as it looks, you know? I’ve had to juggle side gigs while still finding time to write my music. I’ve had to be my own cheerleader before anyone else. There were days when I seriously considered giving up. But all that self-doubt and fear just ignited a fire within me to keep pushing forward. I’m determined to spread my music to as many people as possible and make a mark in the industry. If I stumble, I’ll just pick myself up and use it as an opportunity to grow – both as a person and an artist.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart as an artist is that I put a piece of myself into every song. I dig deep and keep it real, hoping my music brings comfort and understanding. I want my music to feel like a wave of love and light, offering spiritual healing and support. I know how it feels to be alone, and through my music, I want to make sure no one else feels that way. I’m super proud of every song I’ve released and the messages behind them. “Brain On Fire” is about letting people know it’s okay to seek help when things get tough. “TwentyOne” is all about embracing growing up and realizing everyone around us is aging too. And finally, “Stupid Face” is about finding that special someone who makes you feel complete and safe, where you can just be yourself and lean on them when you need to. This journey hasn’t been easy. Each of these songs comes from a vulnerable place, whether they’re goofy or deep. I’ve poured my heart and soul into creating these songs. It took time and space to bring them to life because songs don’t magically come together overnight. But there were also moments of instant inspiration, where a song was written in seconds. It’s important to remember the value of taking breaks when needed. Along the way, I’ve learned to take things in stride and be kind to myself. Progress takes time, and as a simple singer-songwriter, I aim to make a difference locally and globally. I want my music to inspire and empower others, giving them strength and confidence to pursue their passions and embrace their true selves.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The place I would show my best friend is a hidden gem. It’s a massive location that has everything you could ever need, so there’s no need to go anywhere else. It’s called the Yellow Green Market, and it’s a local farmer’s market that offers a wide variety of food from all over the world – from Vietnamese to Peruvian cuisine. It’s the perfect spot to hang out because, in addition to the incredible food, they also have areas for playing pool, foosball, or Jenga. And to top it off, they even have live music performances.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve got to give a shoutout to some amazing people who’ve helped me grow in my career. First off, my parents – they’re honestly the reason I’m where I am today. They have my back even when I doubt myself. They always make sure I have what I need, whether it is a vocal lesson or help landing a gig, or just some words of encouragement. I’m super grateful to have parents who not only believe in my dreams but also support my career. Next, a huge thank you to my vocal coach, Beth Cohen. Honestly, she’s the best mentor I’ve ever had. I appreciate how she pushes me to become a better artist. I value her honesty, no matter how tough or small the critique, because I know it’s all out of love. When Beth believes in your career, she genuinely supports you and goes the extra mile to help.
