Bio
My name is Justin Kell Serrano ( born January 7, 2000 ). My stage name is J.Kell. Rapper, singer, songwriter, producer, and musician. I’ve been mixing, songwriting, and mastering my own music for about a year and a half now. A spark in my career ignited, when I was finally convinced to post a song on Soundcloud entitled “I know“. The song reached about five thousand plays in the first month. This is when I knew my art had an audience. I cleaned out my closet with the intent of making a recording studio in my bedroom. I said to myself, “I don't know where I'm headed but I got fuel for the journey“ - Hmmmmmm "Fuel For The Journey", sounds like a song, so I wrote it. I worked an entire summer just to buy me a microphone and the simplest pieces of equipment. I immediately fell in love with process of making music.
Prior to producing I was raised a musician. Since I can walk my mother said I would bang on her pots and pans. I’ve been playing and co-directing the worship team at my church for four years. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to play along side extremely talented musicians, many attending schools like Juilliard and NYU. Playing in church has definitely impacted my sound of music. I am inspired by gospel, jazz, latin jazz, and hip hop. I have an appreciation for live instruments and musicians, which many young producers today don’t have.
I wouldn't put a genre or title on my music. I'm just a person who makes beautiful sounding music, lays vocals on top, and hopes to make an impact.
My “ear” is definitely different. As a seventeen year old, I know what the youth of this generation want. The formula I use for every production is “Connecting, Simple, and Authentic.“ My music is a reflection of my passion. I feel that the listener and the sound waves entering their ears should connect and become one. Throughout the years the music industry has complicated music. Wether it's through the politics of it or business, I take it back to the basics. Just put me in a room with a laptop and let me create.
