"J.B. Boone Inspires Listeners To Reflect On “Wildfeather”"

“Well, quarantine gave me a lot of time to reflect on myself and the decisions I’ve made in the past few years,” J.B. Boone told American Songwriter. “I began thinking about the pivotal moments, the ones that came with major change, and the feelings that went into those choices.”

In this regard, Boone is like much of the rest of the country: at a crossroads in the midst of uncertainty. Between pandemics and protests, many are beginning to not only question the bigger picture of our society but the smaller picture of their daily lives. On May 10, Boone released “Wildfeather,” a single that managed to anticipate this phenomenon.

“‘Wildfeather’ discusses the paradox of bravery and self-consciousness in these moments,” Boone said. “Some of the bravest choices we make come at the most fragile times — and they come with consequences, whatever the outcome may be. We may be ‘living the life’ at the expense of other relationships and experiences, and we may miss our families and our homes. But the important thing is that when these fragile moments come, we stand up and make these brave choices and stick by them. Especially right now, I think everyone could use a little introspection into how they can face the world bravely.”

Hailing from Texas, Boone’s style feels akin to an updated version of the ‘stomp & holler’ that Mumford & Sons made famous over a decade ago. Boone even plays the folky four-on-the-floor drum part with his feet while his bright tenor voice guides the listener through the song’s arc. Yet, Boone’s blend of pop writing and country instrumentation feels more effortless than Mumford’s early endeavors — the banjo comes across less as a novelty and more as an essential and tasteful calling card for the genre.

Perhaps this effortlessness comes from the genuineness of Boone’s message. A determined and altruistic artist, Boone is a strong believer in the power of music, noting that “so many songs have made a huge impact on my life, and have helped me through hard times. If I can make even one person feel a connection, that’ll be good enough for me.” In regards to “Wildfeather,” Boone wants to inspire his listeners to reflect.

“I want people to be brave,” Boone said. “I want them to understand the complex emotions brewing beneath their skin and how that plays into the choices they make. I think a little self-reflection goes a long way in figuring out life’s problems.”

"J.B. BOONE – WILDFEATHER | SUBSONIC LOWS AND PULSATING RHYTHMS MOVE THE SINGLE ALONG ITS HEARTFELT JOURNEY [PREMIERE]"

J.B. Boone, American singer-songwriter is poised to release his introspective single, Wildfeather on May 8 of this year. The track secures its place within and cements in place the indie folk genre, and rightfully so, it’s a perfect specimen of such.

Continuing traditions of Mumford and The Lumineers, Boone asserts his vison and develops his sonic recipe like any seasoned songsmith. Wildfeather is a production gem, it’s mixed and mastered with the audiophile in mind, teetering between simple acoustic guitar, complete with hand and string noise, right to full-production programming and orchestration. It’s handled expertly in Wildfeather, subsonic lows and pulsating rhythms move the single along its heartfelt journey.

J.B. Boone has even intertwined some live banjo during the choruses for a savory new layer. Not that kind of banjo either, the good kind, where it tastefully serves the song and doesn’t force you into a realm where you’re not welcome.

“You can reach for heaven from a couch in Santa Fe“

The juxtapose of the classic folk and modern folk sound is the real winner here. It’s what this release is made of, what sets it apart from other releases of the same. Boone also solidifies his lyricism in Wildfeather, he’s deft at it. The single will strike an emotional nerve with listeners, because it struck an emotional one with Boone and he’s a competent messenger. The claim is, it’s about courage in times of need, times of being alone or mental fragility. Boone shares prose with us such as “wrestling with the bones beneath your skin” or my favorite, “you can reach for heaven from a couch in Santa Fe”.

It’s all worthy, Boone’s outlook on the past is the art here. Poetry meets well-crafted music. It’s that simple, or is it? This single is definitely worth our time, we’ve all been “there”, you know? Alone, scared, with no great new music in our queue… - For The Love of Bands

"Let the Wind Turn You Into a "Wildfeather" by J.B. Boone: A Euphonixx Song Review"

See this picture? She looks like she is just letting the wind take her, turning her into a "wildfeather." J.B. Boone was able to achieve this by taking her out of her own mind, she was stressing, trying to fit in what everyone expects. Actually this is just a GIF, but listening to this song makes you want to feel what she is feeling. Feeling free, feeling the feeling of going with the flow, the feeling of reaching your dreams, and feeling like a "wildfeather." That is the thoughts that J.B. Boone wants you to feel as well, but he doesn't really have to say it because the melody and lyrics make you feel it!

His voice is just so calm and beautiful, and the vocal ranges he can hit are unbelievable. Changing the ranges in order to keep you enticed and interested throughout the whole songs. Using acoustic instruments such as acoustic guitar and banjo to fit into the folk music genre, yet through the melodies it can be a radio hit. I've listened to this song about 10 times in a row and it doesn't get boring, just calming but not in the snooze way but in the staring at the clouds and relaxing way. What do you feel when you listen to this song? Comment below! - Euphonixx

"A cool Americana six pack to get you through the weekend"

J.B. Boone – “Hico”
-Are you ready to jangle? Because if you are, you need to get a load of this JB Boone cat. There hasn’t been a folk-meets-pop fusion like this since Marcus Mumford became a superstar. Boone’s style is equal parts jangly folk and powerful pop harmonies that’ll have you tapping toes. Where do I go from here? I don’t know, maybe to an amazing little folk playlist of indie folk hits? Oh and fair warning… there’s a cheeky little F-bomb out of nowhere, so don’t play it for the kiddos. - EarToTheGround
