Poster Child’s debut release is a funky and infectious success, lyrically championing self-confidence with apt ’80s references, from CBGB to DeLoreans. “Death Star Cadillac” features vibrant vocals on top of the funky guitar licks and active rhythm section, letting loose in the final minute for bursts of instrumental flair. In just under three minutes, “Death Star Cadillac” does well in showcasing the act’s fun, melodic sound, with a fondness for funk, pop, and ’80s nostalgia. - Obscure Sound
POSTER CHILD’s single ‘Death Star Cadillac’ is just like getting that first black eye in elementary school. It doesn’t feel very bad, when your love crush in school hit you right square. You don’t mind. You know it’s temporary inconvenience. But the experience of her touching (hitting) you was worth it. Crazy? Nope. The first single release by POSTER CHILD makes references of 80’s and under the umbrella of a fun rag-tag indie-pop, you get enamored by the hip and the bop of the song. Just can’t get it out of your ears, to be honest. It’ll stick with ya for a while, like Angela’s love tap. - comeherefloyd
The just-released “Disco Duck” comes from Nashville duo Poster Child, whose debut EP Death Star Cadillac releases on May 22nd. Impressing back in March with the EP’s self-titled track, Poster Child again strut a super-fun sound entrenched in disco pop, funk, and many things nostalgic and danceable. “Disco Duck” is not the 1976 Rick Dees-recorded disco classic, though feels of a similar era — with Andrew’s funk guitar licks and Theresa’s invigorating vocal presence exuding a timeless aura. The duo’s upcoming EP, releasing on 5/22, has all the makings of a high quality release, based on this and the self-titled track. - Obscure Sound
“Disco Duck” comes from the duo’s forthcoming debut EP ‘Death Star Cadillac,’ releasing on May 22nd. The release shows a funky disco-pop town being churned out of the act’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.
Because they care about getting their music just right—as danceable as circa-1980 disco and as pop as pop can be—they pack their songs with elegantly constructed hooks. Poster Child’s music is about dancing until you feel like you’re a passenger in a souped-up, science-fiction Cadillac cruising through space toward a distant star.
They sing about the mindless joy of dancing pm“Disco Duck,” which is not the 1976 Rick Dees-recorded disco classic, but an original that has its own wacky and, perhaps, quacky integrity.
“Disco Duck” sports Andrew’s twitchy funk-disco guitar lick and Theresa’s deliciously hedonistic vocal: “Folks say I’ve squandered my potential/On the day-to-day pleasures that come my way,” she sings. “If there’s something that’s worth my time/It’ll be night after night out at the disco, baby/Getting on down, getting on down.” - Desert Island Cloud
Taken from their recently released debut EP ‘Death Star Cadillac’, the only thing that Nashville’s Poster Child want to do with ‘Disco Duck’ is to get you to dance. Bringing classic 80’s disco pop together with modern funk, Poster Child carry a vibe across ‘Disco Duck’ that is unshakably cool, easing into blistering choruses that demand a sing along before immediately cutting back into dancing vibes that Patawawa fans will be immensely pleased with. - Velvet Independent

Bio
Poster Child is a retro-pop group based in Nashville, TN. Their unique style is born of singer, Theresa Gorella’s pop influences clashing with guitarist, Andrew Royal’s alternative sensibilities. Think 80’s pop if Disco hadn’t died out in 1979. Similar artists in this niche include Vulfpeck, Lake Street Dive, and Khruangbin. Poster Child’s lyrics are fun and quirky, and their funky rhythm section will make you want to “shake your hot cross buns.”
