"Honor Among Thieves Drops Explosive EP, “Murder on the Radio, Vol.1”"

Straight from the heart of New York City’s Lower East Side, Honor Among Thieves is set to ignite the rock scene with their latest EP, “Murder on the Radio, Vol.1.” This five-track powerhouse redefines modern-day hard rock, infusing it with an old-school rebellious spirit and a jolt of electricity that’s impossible to resist. Led by Craig Cantos’ commanding vocals, Merx Mercado’s electrifying guitar, Kevin Jones on bass, and Dave Brooks on drums, Honor Among Thieves delivers a sonic onslaught that captures the essence of unapologetic rock and roll. The EP was recorded at BC Studios in Brooklyn by the legendary Martin Bisi, known for his work with Sonic Youth and White Zombie, among others.
The opening track, “Down,” serves as a rebellious anthem, urging listeners to rise above life’s challenges and stay true to themselves. It’s a visceral call to embrace individuality, with infectious energy that sets the tone for the entire EP. “Bareknuckle Billionaires” cranks up the intensity with a fun, fighting-inspired rocker. Fueled by Craig’s passion for MMA, the song becomes a heavy, crowd-pleasing anthem. No profound message here—just a gritty, enjoyable romp through a world of combat references. In “Battle Lines,” Honor Among Thieves explores the complexities of love and relationships. The song narrates a tale of fighting to preserve a love that’s worth the struggle. It delves into the raw emotions of navigating disagreements and conflicts within a deep connection.
With “Murder on the Radio, Vol.1,” Honor Among Thieves not only celebrates the essence of old-school rock but also delivers a modern-day sonic revolution that’s impossible to ignore. The EP is a testament to the band’s commitment to authenticity, individuality, and the enduring power of rock and roll. - Hailtunes

"Honor Among Thieves - ‘Murder on the Radio Pt. 1"

Honor Among Thieves is a gusto-filled American rock band. Through the turbulent waters of rock n roll, hard rock, grunge, garage, and punk, they keep it real and tight. Like old school rock, they don’t spare any energy, grit, power, or glamor. Since their formation in 2003, there’s been a strong focus on generating an intensity, one that plugs into people, drives them, and elevates them. Edgy instrumentals, evocative vocals, and a translating camaraderie marks their music. And you’ll see it in their latest album, ‘Murder on the Radio Pt. 1). Across five tracks, the band situates rock n roll in diverse planes and unearths a resilience that is simply marvelous to witness.

Each track is a journey into the unknown with a spirit of adventure and playfulness. Add to this their effortless camaraderie and the will to play and it all becomes an addictive atmosphere. ‘Down’ is an explosive punk-driven rock n roll that plasters the listener to the walls. Elements of nu metal and prog rock make you intensely nostalgic for the 90s. ‘Bareknuckle Billionaires’ is desperate and urgent. Despite this rush, the riff breaks and the punk stays and flows charismatically.

‘Battle Lines’ is a collision of roaming riffs and explorative vocals. ‘Firesign’ brings a little more edge. Experimental melody lines, diving basses, and mysterious beats. The EP ends with ‘Minutes to Miles’. It carries the complexity of prog, the groove of rock n roll, and the intensity of grunge. Loaded with electric textures and anchored vocals, it is enriched with rock. Listen Now!

The EP is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music! - Good Music Radar

"MURDER ON THE RADIO VOL.1 BY HONOR AMONG THIEVES: EP REVIEW"

The spirit of old school rock n roll is alive and kicking with Honor Among Thieves’s latest EP Murder on the Radio, Vol. 1. Recorded at BC Studios in Brooklyn NYC, and co-produced with Martin Bisi the album is delivered by Craig Cantos on vocals, Merx Mercado on guitar, Kevin Jones on bass, and Dave Brooks on drums.

“Down” sets the tone for Murder on the Radio, Vol. 1 with its electrifying and defiant resilience. With gnarling guitar riffs, Cantos’ vocals exude fervor as he sings, “Shake the fault line, Break the mainline, Take it offline now, Until they all fall.” Next is the high-octane rocker, “Bareknuckle Billionaires,” fueled by fighting references and raw energy. Cantos’ background in MMA adds a personal touch to the lyrics, building the music with grit and determination.

“Battle Lines” gets intimate about maintaining the connection amidst relationship struggles. The smugly blazing guitars dynamize with a more melancholic atmosphere. The tender vocals drip with emotion as Cantos sings, “As we send this night, On down to wage another fight, I’ll be there tonight, Shot down behind your battle lines”

Following the sad is the sexy “Firesign,” with its heavy bass grooves and grinding guitars. Further embodying the exhilarating rush of romance and passion are Cantos’ vocals surging with lines like, “You wrap those arms around me/Your nails dig deep into me.” “Minutes to Miles” rounds out the EP with driving guitars and anthemic vocals, delivering a powerful message of self-discovery and exploring new horizons. "Arist of the month"

Honor Among Thieves hails from New York City and is known for being a groovy hard rock band with an all around good vibe. From the very first time you see them perform, you realize their on stage performance is really a reflection of who they are off stage. Their good energy easily translates to their audience and their mix of 80’s hard rock with modern rock is the perfect combination to create a sound all their own. Honor Among Thieves’ good vibes are rarely seen in rock music today, and their fresh sound gives us something new to catch on to. Their live performance opening up for Sixx A.M. left an impression on us, and for this reason they have been named an Artist You Should Know.

Honor Among Thieves, was formed in 2003, in New York City’s Lower East Side by members Dave (Dave of Thrones) Brooks on drums, Sebastian Correa on the bass, Eric (Eric Zee) Zaretsky on guitar and Cherokee Fortune on vocals. The band set off with a single purpose in mind: To give people some great Rock n’ Roll and a good time! Shortly after forming, they released their first CD titled Edge Of A Razor, which was well received by the often picky New York City Rock fans and media. Described by New York’s famous Village Voice newspaper, as a band sounding “somewhere between Black Sabbath and Black Flag.”

The early days of the band’s history saw Honor Among Thieves sharing the stage with NYC rock regulars such as Banana Fish Zero, The Sex Slaves Super Villain and Joker Five Speed to name a few. They also performed at such notable New York City venues such as Don Hill’s, CBGB, Continental and The Trash Bar as well as road dates with bands such as LA Guns, The Misfits, Lauren Harris (daughter of Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris) and The Sex Slaves. When singer Cherokee Fortune left the band to pursue family life, the remaining members quickly found a replacement in local singer Tara Lorin and continued bringing their music to the people. However, the union was short lived and the band members lament that no recording was produced.

Certainly not down or out, Dave, Eric and Sebastian found a kindred spirit and new singer in their long time friend Maurice Johnson. Maurice brought a new and different sound to the vocals, which the remaining members quickly adjusted to and in less than a year after Maurice joined, Honor Among Thieves released their second, and self titled CD. This CD has again been well received in the New York Scene and celebrated by music media around the USA. Both CD’s are available on iTunes, CD copy and free streaming sites such as Spotify.

A quick look at the influences from all four members shows their musical taste to be as widely varied as their individual personalities. They list artists such as Prince, Living Color, Black Sabbath, Rush, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Jane’s Addiction, Aerosmith, Alice In Chains, Supersuckers, Clutch and Elvis Presley all as influences. All four members agree that they are, in one way or another, often influenced by just about every piece of music they hear. Maurice has been the front man for several years now, and in the band’s 12th year together overall. 2015 is shaping up to be their strongest year to date; an accomplishment the band members often attribute to their consistent shared love of playing music together. Honor Among Thieves can still be seen on New York City stages and often alongside NYC bands such as Killcode, The Dirty Pearls, Ten Ton Mojo, The Bullys and Atom Strange.

Riding the strength of their self-titled CD, which one journalist described as “A hard rock kick in the teeth that should come with a shot and a beer…” as well as coming off of a huge show at New York City’s famed Best Buy Theater with media proclaimed super group Sixx A.M., Honor Among Thieves shows no signs of slowing down. -

"North Jersey Notes"

An old friend recently came across my desk by way of theaquarian.com. I’m talking about Honor Among Thieves. I wrote about these guys many years ago when they had Cherokee Fortune fronting the band. Cherokee, at the time, was a co-host on the FUSE-TV show Heavy Metal Makeover with Abby Gennet (Scallions?) from Slunt and Militia from Judas Priestess. Well, Cherokee has since left the band and a new singer named Maurice Johnson has stepped up to the plate to fill her shoes, and from the songs that I heard on ReverbNation—“Quiet” and “Hung Out To Dry”—it sounds like Maurice has filled those shoes pretty nicely. What prompted the Thieves to contact me again? The mentions about fellow New Yorkers The Dirty Pearls, Killcode and Panzie* in this column. So, they just wanted to re-introduce themselves.

According to their bio, Honor Among Thieves formed back in October 2003. They burst onto the New York City rock scene and quickly gained much attention with what was described as their “Unmistakable New York sound” (I wonder if that was my quote when I first wrote about them) and their high-energy live shows. After original Honor Among Thieves singer, Cherokee Fortune, left the band to focus on starting a family in L.A., founding members guitarist Eric Zee, bassist Sebastian Correa and drummer Dave Brooks thought it was best to continue writing together. They would eventually enlist longtime friend, Maurice Johnson, to fill the vacant vocal position. Now, with Maurice taking full control of the frontman position in Honor Among Thieves, the band plans on re-claiming their rightful spot at the top of the NYC music scene.

Honor Among Thieves has been on a bit of a roll as of late since opening for Sixx:A.M. at Best Buy Theater in NYC. They plan on hitting the Jersey music scene pretty hard too in the coming months to expand their growing following. The Thieves currently have a self-titled CD available on CD Baby and iTunes, which features the songs I mentioned earlier as well as “Another Song About The Same Thing,” “Candy Shop” and “Naked.” How can you not like a song named “Naked”? Anyway, check out Honor Among Thieves now at reverbnation.com/honoramongthievesNYC. - Tim Louie for The Aquarian Weekly

"Sixx:A.M. & Apocalyptica rattle Best Buy Theater NYC 4-27-15"

A good number of Americans dislike Monday: leaving their homes after a fun-filled, relaxing weekend to head back to the daily grind of the working world. Fortunately Monday, April 27th, would be an enjoyable, musically-oriented one, at least for ticketholders of the Sixx:A.M. and Apocalyptica performance at Best Buy Theater in Times Square, NYC. Both bands were touring in support of their latest records - Sixx: A.M. released their third studio album, Modern Vintage, in October of 2014, and Apocalyptica released their eighth, Shadow Maker, on April 21st. Fitting dubbed The Modern Vintage Tour, upon its announcement back in October there was a storm of excitement swirling on the internet with fans tweeting and facebook posting how much they could not wait to see this tour come to town. Finally for The Big Apple that wait was over and fans piled into the twenty-one hundred seat venue, expecting a unbelievable rock show from both bands. By the end of the night, they got what they had come for.

Opening up the show was New York City’s own Honor Among Thieves. Made up of Moe on vocals, E Z on guitar, Sebastian on bass, and Dave of Thrones on drums, the band came out ready to Rock-n-Roll. Pumping out their straight up guitar driven original Rock tunes Moe lead the way on the microphone singing loud, clear, and full of energy to the hometown crowd. Ecstatic for the chance to open such a massive show the band made the most of their time on stage and had everyone praising their set. The band will be performing two New York areas shows in June so be sure to check them out. - Cryptic Rock

"Feature: HONOR AMONG THIEVES"

NYC's hard rock quartet Honor Among Thieves' self-titled full length should come with a beer and a shot. With influences from Motorhead to Living Colour, the band's music is a fierce kick in the teeth. Single “Friday Night Breakdown” is sleaze-rock at its finest. An ode to getting fucked up on the weekend, “a couple whiskey / followed by some lime,” it's old school NYC hard rock like they don't make anymore. The full record is available over at CD Baby, and the band will be rocking Arlene's Grocery on March 18th.
