Bio
christopher whitley is a Canadian violinist, composer and multimedia artist based in San Francisco. From early Baroque music to electronic noise music, christopher is committed to exploring and performing music of all styles.
he is a founding member of the Thalea String Quartet and has performed quartet recitals across North America and Europe. An avid proponent of new music, christopher has collaborated with a number of up and coming composers in the Bay Area and Canada. He studied composition at McGill with composer Chris Paul Harman and improvisation with Evan Price, Lori Freedman, Malcolm Goldstein, Iva Bittova and Marc Ribot.
christopher’s music for violin and electronics takes inspiration from Brian Eno, modal jazz, free improvisation and techno. His electronic performances feature works that range from strictly composed electroacoustic pieces for violin and laptop electronics to completely improvised ambient soundscapes.
