As the weather is rapidly falling into the cusp of summer, laid-back tunes to roll down the windows to are an absolute essential. If you're in search of a new addiction, you are in the right place. Nashville's music scene continues to grow, as a plethora of diverse music is trickling endlessly off into tangents. Yet something different is always to be longed for; a 'different' that'll keep you humming that new tune all day, or a freshness that you'll inevitably want to infect upon your fellow music-crazed friends.
Electronic frenzy Gritsmitten is all of that packed into one: blending chillstep, electronifolk, ambient trip-hop, and sheer awesomeness, it's something to get excited about for the summertime.
The alias of Nashville local producer Michael Wade, Gritsmitten might remind one of early Little Dragon, or Tycho's album Dive. But it definitely gives a similar sound as experimental producer XXYYXX, along with a touch of other ambient electronic musicians.
Gritsmitten's latest track 'Spirit of Joy' opens up with longing, atmospheric vocals that blend perfectly into a catchy beat that'll send you coasting into your summer shenanigans. Think Toro y Moi's album Causers of This-it's a track that you could literally put on repeat until your ears wilt. The following new tracks that he's released give a comparable, warm-weather feel.
So, give that summertime musical longing a cathartic release with Gritsmitten; he knows just what you need to keep your ambient vibe rolling.
