Every Wednesday, the North Bay Hootenanny hosts free live music at the Last Day Saloon. Tonight’s headliners (Jan 25th) are Girls & Boys, a band out of San Francisco that just released their debut album “The Feel of the Sun”. The earthy tones of Brianna Lee’s vocals set against the soulful music of bassist Josh Barrett, drummer Mark Tarlton, and guitarist Victor Relli sets the stage for a kickback show of folk rock with an edge.
Opening for Girls & Boys is Katie Phillips, Marcus Owens, and Nick Simmons. And while this all ages show is free, please bring at least $5 to tip the bands.

Once again, hosting open mic has paid off for my ears! Gracing the presence of both open mics that I host lately has been local band, “Girls & Boys“. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist, Brianna Lee, be prepared to get goosebumps! They recently released their debut album, “The Feel Of The Sun“. In fact, I am listening to it now as I type this. Brianna has such a pleasant/pure voice, I am not sure it really needs any reverb, although the album production is well done. The guitar tones are rockin’ and dirty. Combine that with a drummer that doesn’t hold back and a lead singer that can belt it equals sold in my book. Check out the song “Stranger”, it’s a good example of what I am rambling about. The song “Scratch and Scream” has a Tom Waits kind of beat/percussion with a catchy melody that makes me think of a hit radio song.
Picking up this album and seeing them live soon after is what I would recommend.
I am still trying to label a specific genre on their music… Pop/Rock/Experimental?…I am not sure. The sound journey that Girls & Boys takes you on has a little for everyone and I like that! I am reminded of a band that I am a fan of from Indianapolis called Mars or The Moon. A combo show with both would be pretty epic, maybe I can make that happen in the near future. - KC Turner Presents

Girls & Boys are a band from Santa Rosa, California who are quickly on the rise. Their heart pounding live performances have led them to play some of the top venues in California including the Bottle Rock Fest in Napa, Great American Music Hall, Mountain Winery in Saratoga, The Mint LA, Mystic Theater, Vina Robles Amphitheater, and The Sweetwater Music Hall to name a few, and to be recipients of the Bay Area's Bohemian Best Indie Band in 2012. The band's members consist of Brianna Lee Vocals - Guitar - Keys, Josh Barrett Bass, Mark Tarlton Drums, Nick Simmons Guitar and Ross Barbieri Guitar - Vocals. Led by the soulful vocals of front-woman Brianna Lee, the band's dynamics back up her every move with power and grace making for a captivating live show.
Since the release of their debut album in 2012 people near and far have been taking notice of Girls & Boys. The album's strong sonic quality and songwriting landed placements of four of their songs in Film and TV including 2013's "Divorce Invitation" and the Showtime Reality series "The Real L Word". With roots that date back to 2007 when bassist Josh Barrett and vocalist Brianna Lee met at an open mic their passion has always been a common one, to play music straight from the heart, with power, and soul.
Girls & Boys delivers a sound ranging from rock and pop to soulful and moody. The band always delivers a powerful performance with a chemistry that is undeniable both on and off the stage. Currently working on their next album the band can be found playing regularly and taking the show on the road in 2015. Look for Girls & Boys in a town near you soon.
