“When the front man slung an orange guitar [Gretch] over his Native American bone shirt plus tuxedo jacket and the drummer striped the house kit down to only a kick, high-hat and snare, I was a bit concerned. To be honest, I was just hoping these guys would not suck and drive the crowd away. Usually I give artists 15 minutes to perform but the crowd loved their blend of blues-rock and country so I kept them on and they did not disappoint. In fact, Heron tore it up on guitar with some chicken pickin’ goodness while the female vocalist [The Sonic Abbess] doubled on acoustic guitar and auto-harp. Her vocals were smooth; a nice contrast to Heron’s gravel, but what took the cake for me was the Middle Eastern tune [Before the Storm] where she added some bizarrely fitting overtones with her harp. It was super cool and I can honestly say I’ve never had a band bring an auto-harp into this room but they did and it awesome! “I had a few headliners in mind for the Blue Corn Lifestyle Festival and one of these bands was Ghost Heron. I knew their unique Americana blend of Country and Blues would be exactly what the outdoor festival needed to balance out the rest of the acts. Even when the late afternoon temperatures hovered above 100 degrees these guys, and one lady [The Sonic Abbess], did not disappoint. People were dancing and smiling away as they played a folkie country tune [Hooked on Phonix Fool] and then kept bopping along with their blues tunes [Been Walkin’ these Streets & In the Belly of the Beast]. Heron really wowed the crowd with his harmonica and slide guitar playing while [The Sonic Abbess] played a mean rhythm guitar and sang like a siren.
