"Watch: Forrester at the Granada"

On Thursday, many Lawrencians (especially students) escaped the frosty night with a highly attended and popular Granada show. Cowboy Indian Bear, Middle Twin, and Psychic Heat entertained students seeking asylum before their finals week. They were also joined by Forrester, a post-rock group that has always been popular with students in Lawrence.

You will not find any vocalists in Forrester. The instrumental act puts forth dreamy shoegazey noises into the air and fills every corner of the venue with sound. There are also enough guitarists onstage where they call pull out all the tricks. You’ll see anything from intricate loops to finger tapping.

Forrester has great enthusiasm when they’re on stage. Even when their rhythms are a bit mellow, they’re animated about it and that feeling is reciprocated in the audience.

It actually is pretty impressive to watch the audience’s reaction. Every time we’ve gone to a Forrester show, folks dash toward the stage with a pep in the step. This might be one of the best displays of spirit for an instrumental band. - I Heart Local Music

Bio

Forrester is a 5-piece instrumental music collective currently based out of Lawrence, Kansas, where the band was formed. The group is known for their experimentation with soundscapes and song structure as well as an unorthodox mixture of layered and effected guitar melodies, which are accompanied by electronic loops and samples. The music that Forrester creates is written collectively, and takes much influence from genres such as post-rock, shoegaze, noise-rock, hip-hop, ambient, and electronic, to name a few.
In the spring of 2013 the group entered a multi-state competition run by the University of Kansas radio station, 90.7 KJHK. Battling it out with over 76 bands and advancing through several rounds, the band went all the way to win 1st place. With the winnings, the band has begun recording their first EP, which is set to release this winter.
