Five MCs from the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) have come together to put out an all-around solid project called The FRESH Effect. Fly Rebel Society’s, The FRESH Effect, is a melting pot of dope beats and rhymes which culminated into a great project.
TeeJay, GodlyMC, Lega-c, Ryda Blak, and Cooley (Fly Rebel Society) started the album off with “Introduction,” which displayed each of the MC’s rhyming styles over a dope beat with heavy 808 kicks and a snap snare drum. After the opening track, the rest of the album splits up each MC to shine on their respective individual tracks.
Standout tracks such as Can I Kick It? (Cooley), Gold Rollie (TeeJay x GodlyMC), Tokyo Tower (Lega-c), Contraband (Ryda Blak) are the reasons why this album truly shines.and is worth the download!
P.S.: Rell appreciates the shout-out under the composer section of “Dog Eat Dog.” (Haha!)
Standout Tracks - Can I Kick It? (Cooley), Gold Rollie (TeeJay x GodlyMC), Tokyo Tower (Lega-c), Contraband (Ryda Blak)
Honorary Track - Stairwell (GodlyMC) - FlyGoody

This quintet of MCs from the DMV underground joined together and made themselves known on the track “Introduction” which was exactly what it is. The very first track of their awaited album which gives Tee Jay, Godly MC, Lega-c, Ryda Blak, and Cooley each their time to shine and display their rhyme style. After some promotion and word of mouth, Fly Rebel Society comes through with their debut EP “The FRESH Effect.”
Lately, the DMV is still trying to establish a concrete sound outside of Go-Go. But maybe that’s a good thing. Because they start off with some solid beats and lyrics that you may take some time to analyze which is something I expected and wanted and I’m getting the more I listen. Then I hear the song “Like I” and I can honestly tell you (and them) I fuckin’ hated this song. It just sounded like another Lex Luger beat for niggas to fistpump to while not listening to the Chief Keef-esque lyrics. But the truth is that it’s NOT. And it drove me to a point where I WANTED to hate it. I WANTED to hate “HMF” because it seemed generic. After awhile I couldn’t. It was actually well-thought out to a point where I was hating myself for being ignorant about it.
Because the difference between Fly Rebel Society and a lot of other rappers out there is that you can tell that they know what to do with the beat. Every track is something that they actually were feeling writing rhymes in the studio. As in THEY DON’T SOUND LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. There’s legitimate time and effort and love put into this album. As if they wanted to make everybody known that they’re FUCKING RAPPERS! FRS can lace up any trap beat like they do on “Like I” or come with bars like “Can I Kick It” and have something for you and the boo. And it’s clearly something to listen to.
My only issue with it that me personally, I actually was expecting 16 tracks of “Tokyo Tower”. What I got was 5 MCs who made a solid album from front to back. It loses a little steam especially with the energy in the beginning but still good all around which is I think is what they were aiming for. The FRESH Effect isn’t an album to cater to one particular audience but it is what they’re supposed to be: A good rap group making a good rap album. Fly Rebel Society demonstrate that they are indeed 5 guys that take time with they raps no matter what beat they’re on and that’s very encouraging for the area. And I’m pretty sure all five guys can fed off the energy off each other and give a fiery performance whenever they come around if you were to just listen to these songs. - The Beat Dojo
History has been made not only for the D.C., Maryland and Virginia community but for hip-hop community as well when emcees TeeJay, GodlyMC, Lega-c, Ryda Blak and Cooley formed the rap supergroup Fly Rebel Society. This is not your typical rap group, each artist bring their own sense of style and lyrical flow to the table. TeeJay from PG County may seem quiet but he brings that crazy flow. GodlyMC hailing from Largo, MD is the “hippie” of the group bringing a different type of vibe to F.R.S. Ryda Blak is a rapper/producer who is set on making mark for Fly Rebel Society and himself. Cooley is the change up of the crew with his rebellious flow and he also can sing a little bit too. Lega-c who put this supergroup together has been doing his thing solo for quite some time putting out dope mixtapes under his F.R.E.S.H. Ent label and now he has four other rappers beside him to take over! This diverse gang of artists surely are here to stay and will open minds with their creativity and rap skills. Fly Rebel Society have created quite a buzz with freebies and videos off their upcoming album titled The FRESH Effect. F.R.S. has given me the honor of previewing their album first hand before it drops June 7th, so kick back, relax and enjoy this track-by-track preview of the songs I enjoyed!
“Introduction”
Fly Rebel Society kicks off the album with a head nodding beat introducing themselves and capturing the listener with their versatile flow. This intro track sets the tone for the album, letting you know that this will not be an ordinary supergroup project. All five members spit a hot 16 with Lega-c welcoming us “to the FRESH effect” at the end.
“Tokyo Tower”
The beat for this track is trill and Lega-c rips it to shreds with his clever bars such as “Spittin magic like wala skywalkin’ on the beach, sun’in niggas like Im ya fatha”. You might find yourself putting this one on repeat as I surely did. The “mastermind” behind this supergroup brings it on all three verses with the bass boom bapping loudly and a catchy hook.
“Never Find”
The beat selection continues to be superior as yet again F.R.S. gets you sucked in with another insane production. Lega-c goes solo on this track going in with a crazy hook and is in-sync with the beat with his flow. He makes sure you won’t find another rapper like him who would rap over tracks like this and make it something enjoyable to listen to. The ending is the best part with the sample mixing in with the beat!
“Like I”
Lega-c and Ryda Blak trade off bars in this lyrical trap beat like track. You can definitely ride to this one and play it loudly without any shame. The bass heavy beat does not take away from the rapper’s bars that they spit. Showing off their rap skills once again letting people know that they can rip any track.
“Underrate”
I get a Bone Thug-N-Harmony feel from this track. F.R.S. engages the listener by talking about how they feel underrated in the game and how they become bitter as artists as well as a person. Now everyone is playing their music ever since the F.R.S. crew came to the scene and they set on proving they can hang with the big dogs.
“Contraband”
Using music as a drug metaphor, this track is well put together and creative. The hook reminds me of Biggie for some reason which is why I dig it a lot, “though I ain’t rich my music is grade A shit”.
“All Night”
F.R.S. bring that slight work type of attitude to this track rapping about what they bring to the culture and highlighting the problem with rappers today. This beat knocker will be a summer anthem for those that work hard at what they do.
“HAF”
This is a smoker’s anthem with Cooley, GodlyMC and TeeJay rapping to this hipster beat. Listeners will surely roll up and smoke out to this track.
“Epilogue”
Fly Rebel Society ends the album on a high note with this track. Each member brings fire with the lyrics. This leaves the listener with a great impression and makes them satisfied that they listened to a great project. After listening to this you’ll want to press play again to hear the whole album again.
Overall, this is a great mixtape from start to finish you will enjoy each artist and the songs they are rapping on. The topics are relatable and Fly Rebel Society do not disappoint making all kinds of songs from bangers to smoker anthems to hip-hop joints and more! The selection of beats were incredible and well placed on the album but they did not take away from the lyrics which will make the listeners actively become aware that Fly Rebel Society are not messing around lyrically. Nothing is dumbed down, everyone brings the heat. You can get a sense that Lega-c, TeeJay, GodlyMC, Ryda Blak and Cooley competed against each other and enjoyed making the songs that made the album. The FRESH Effect will be a classic mark my words, this is hip-hop at its finest! This preview is only to peak your interest, the other 8 songs on the album are must listen tracks. Make sure you cop it o - The Blog About Nothin

This is dope work. The collective of Lega-c, Ryda Blak, Cooley, TeeJay, and godlymC come very correct on this project. Don’t believe me, just listen. *Trinidad James voice* - DJ Heat
Hip-hop isn’t dead. “The FRESH Effect” is proof that it lives on – to this very day. Check it out!
Who are these rappers who call themselves The Fly Rebel Society? For starters, let’s break down this hip-hop collective hailing from the DC/MD area.
We got Lega-c - this seasoned rapper from Maryland has definitely evolved over time. Before recruiting his fellow artists for this group project, he took years perfecting his craft and performing on countless open mics throughout the area. Next up, the silent rapper by the name of TeeJay. Is TeeJay really a “quiet” rapper type? Absolutely! But, when he does show up – he shows out. Combine those two with the talents of godlymC, Ryda Blak (the underrated rapper/producer) & the (eager, high-energy filled & equally aggressive) rookie Cooley – and there you have it.
How would one describe “The FRESH Effect” to someone who has never heard it? You can ask fellow music lovers in the twitter world or listen for yourself. This project definitely has something for every type of listener. “Consistent” and “Solid” are just a few of the words used to describe their debut project.
1. Introduction
2. Tokyo Tower
3. Never Find
4. Like I
5. Underrate
6. Contraband
7. All Night
8. Can I Kick It

"Stay Fly
Fly Rebel Society's new mixtape, The FRESH Effect, begins with a triumphant procession of blaring horns (or wrestler Ric Flair's theme song if you're familiar). From there, the group's five members—Lega-c, Ryda Blak, Cooley, TeeJay, and godlyMC—spit with youthful dexterity. The relative rookies rely too heavily on bragging rhymes; they claim to rap the best, pull the flyest ladies, and look the best doing it. Yet, there's still something refreshing about FRESH Effect, even if the subjects tread familiar ground. Maybe it’s the music, bright and bombastic, which boosts the tape's playback potential. Though Fly Rebel Society is still on the upswing, The FRESH Effect proves the group is worth your attention. Listen below. —Marcus J. Moore" - Washington City Paper

DJ Swagg, Miss Toni, Pork Chop & Alex the Intern consider themselves rebels, doing all they can to go against the norm. This week, they welcomed a group of local rappers to the show that share that sentiment. Fly Rebel Society came by to share who they are with the listeners and even freestyled for us during the 202 & U Mini Mix! - Blis.fm | 202andU
When this artist starts speaking, it is indeed a big deal. But, don’t take my word for it.
As you know, rap collective Fly Rebel Society sat down with the 202 & U morning show to discuss their upcoming project. But, that was just the beginning.
After releasing their “Introduction” and “HAF” singles, these guys have been on the move non-stop. We sat down with one of the members (TeeJay) to get a better understanding on his role in the collective.
Prior to being a member of the Fly Rebel Society, TeeJay was an independent artist who earned a reputation of being the “quiet” kind of rapper you never saw coming. While this artist had the quiet reputation in regards to personality, his music spoke for itself. He has accomplished countless shows and even the success of releasing successful projects independently.
So, how does an artist like TeeJay fit into the Fly Rebel Society? What can we expect from him lyrically on The FRESH Effect?
There were many questions that needed to be answered.
Check out his one-on-one interview with me below:

While he may be new to you musically; he’s far from a newbie. Check out our interview!
By now, you should be all caught up with Fly Rebel Society members TeeJay and godlymC. It’s only right that you get to know RydaBlak. This producer-and-rapper from the Maryland area is no stranger to the music scene. With The FRESH Effect, he has one agenda on his mind – making one hell of a mark on this industry with the Fly Rebel Society by his side.

#FlyRebelWeek continues with the second installment of the Fly Rebel Society x DMVixen.com interview series, featuring godlymC. The so-called hippie of the crew, he opens up about his transition into hip-hop music, the type of energy he brings to the group, his third eye and much, much more. Get up to speed by checking out the first interview with TeeJay, then get familiar with godlymC in this one-on-one interview with DMVixen after the jump.

How does the lyrically rebellious artist known as Cooley fit in to the Fly Rebel Society? See for yourself.
Not too long ago, I sat down with DC-bred rapper Cooley to get a better understanding as to how he fit into the Fly Rebel Society. Within the first couple of seconds, you witness first-hand the crazy energy that Cooley is known for. He has a million aliases that make absolutely no sense until he breaks it down.
How does the rebellious spirit of Cooley work alongside fellow lyricists TeeJay, RydaBlak, godlymC and Lega-c? You have to see it for yourself.
Cooley is determined to turn each listener into a believer.

What is the real inspiration behind the Fly Rebel Society? To get a better understanding of who they are, how they started and where they are headed – you have to ask the mastermind. That mastermind would be the rap artist by the name of Lega-c.
Lega-c is no newcomer to the music scene. He has been rapping and performing in the DMV area for years now under his F.R.E.S.H. Ent. label. With that label under his belt (created with TreQues), they recruited other artists including Fly Rebel Society members godlymC, RydaBlak, Cooley and TeeJay.
If you are wondering what the strategy was in recruiting the Fly Rebel Society members – there wasn’t any. How does every member contribute to the rap collective? Well, you have to see that for yourself. Lega-c (with a little c; not to be capitalized) says the “Fly Rebel Society is the best group since Wu-Tang“, here’s why.

Bio
The Fly Rebel Society is a hip hop collective consisting of Lega-c, Ryda Blak, Cooley, TeeJay, and godlymC. Hailing from the DC/Maryland area this group is comprised of many different personalities and musical philosophies all under the common theme of being Fly and Rebellious. Lega-c brings his witty wordplay, Ryda Blak brings the rapid fire flows, TeeJay brings the smooth finesse, Cooley brings the street conscious and godlymC brings introspective knowledge to tie it all together in this group all while embodying a Fly Rebel.
What is a Fly Rebel exactly?
After taking note of various undiscovered, underexposed and under-appreciated
yet talented local artists, Lega-c decided to extend an invitation to each of the artists in FRS to vibe and put their heads and energies together to see what they could build. One year and countless parties and studio sessions later, the Fly Rebels felt like they really have enough talent to make some noise and get some heads turning. Ever since theyve been on a mission to redefine the status quo.
Fly in style, Rebellious in nature, the FRS mission is to bring fresh everything and similar nothing; lyrics, beats, and songs, videos, all reflecting what its like being 20-somethings on the come-up rapping way better than average.
