Bio
An American-born Jamaican-Panamanian, Floyd Leslie Jr grew up between two worlds: one his family’s deep ties to Jamaican music; the other the years he spent soaking up Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae off the streets of Southside Jamaica Queens. Floyd created his persona “Flo Flocko” a name derived from his ability to adjust and flow to the music that has been an integral part of his life. Artists from the likes of Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Erykah Badu and Big L helped influenced Floyd’s path into the music industry. As an emerging independent musician, Floyd’s debut mixtape “Trapper of The Year” is decidedly mature — both sonically and lyrically — as he uses imagery to elaborate on the raw and gritty nature of inner city life. At a young age, Floyd had a passion for basketball; however, his true passion was for writing rhymes and using his songs to keep him above the circumstances around him. He moved to California, living there for 3 years on a scholarship for basketball, but soon realized his true love of music. Returning to New York to pursue audio engineering, Floyd learned music theory, how to mic up and record instruments. With his lyrical skills and training in audio engineering, Floyd dove heavily into his music career, deciding to pursue it seriously. Now he has found his way into the trap genre, using his voice to speak on more personal narratives about life and his community. Painting vivid pictures of hustling scenarios and rising above a life of street violence in his music. He gained attention from his mixtape "God’s plan" his debut "Trapper of the year" dropped November of last year. Both mixtapes illustrate Floyd’s versatility within the trap genre. With his own label “Groovy music” he is taking things to the next level as an independent artist.
