"Minnesota releases: February 18, 2014"

A six-man band of seasoned Twin Cities musicians who came together over their love of country and folk in 2012, the Federales have a knack for crafting an irresistible breed of back-to-basics Americana. Gorgeous vocal harmonies dance with pedal steel, banjo, and guitar, and “Under Your Gun,” the first single off the Federales’ upcoming debut Blues, Bourbon, and Burritos, makes heartbroken lyrics sound like they’d fit right in at a summertime backyard party. The Federales’ energy waxes and wanes from tender to rowdy, but never lacks in spirit. - The Current

"Weekend What's What: 2/20-2/23, 2014"

Don’t let my disdain for what I call “beard-rock” fool you–man, I fucking love country, and I love when it’s done right. And I’m gonna say: the Federales, from what I can tell, tick every god-damn box possible. They’re raw, they’re a little bit angry, they’re twangy in all the right ways, they understands how to wield the tenor guitar and the banjo in a way that doesn’t make you wanna strangle people, and god damn, can they play. I’ve only heard the preview tune from their forthcoming album Blues, Bourbon and Burritos, Under The Gun, but it’s good. Really, really good. I’m guessing, from what I hear there and on live clips, that they’re fantastic live, too, and the Icehouse is a nicely intimate venue for this kinda thing. - l'etoile magazine

"Top 10 must-see Minnesota music videos this week"

This live clip of the group performing the awesomely-titled "Guitars and Grain Belt" at Amsterdam gives you a reason why their sets are so entertaining. The retro-colored clip was shot by Patrick Pelham, who captures the band doing just what they do best — rocking a stage with their alt-country, barstool jams. - City Pages

Bio

Another Thursday night on the open road. He had pulled out of St. Paul a few hours ago headed west. A light rain falls out in the empty spaces that most people consider nowhere, but are home for him and others like him.

The rumble and hum of highway driving always manages to make him introspective. He remembers that past summer, catching a band and a solid buzz with a bunch of his friends in Minneapolis. God, how they wished that night could have lasted forever. Tall beers, tall tales, tall women. That was the kind of night people write songs about.
